November 26, 201114 yr Hi everybodyI've just been contributing to a thread on Bryan's FS2Crew board where the topic of PMDG's MD-11 sales was raised, with the opinion that they were a bit of a disappointment. Although I own all the usual suspects in the complex heavy metal department, I find myself using the MD-11 probably 3 times out of 5, simply because I enjoy this bird so much.Just got to wondering, how many of us FS9 hold-outs are still using this olde girl?Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?
November 26, 201114 yr Hi Sluggy,As someone who really loves flying three holers - I've had my eye on the MD-11 for a long time... The PMDG bird is just above my high price threshhold of what I am willing to pay for an add-on... It's still $80.00 right - which is considerably more than their newer NGX products... I've been watching for sales - but - I haven't seen them... Maybe the price point is just a bit too much for others as well - hence the poor sales - on an associated product? Regards,Scott
November 26, 201114 yr This is one of my favourite aircraft in FS9. I'd been looking forward to some type of MD-11 from when Bill Grabowski started to work on a panel for one. I patiently followed the whole process, began to panic during the 'MD-11 for FSX only crisis' and was eventually rewarded with the epic PMDG MD-11 for FS9. I understand that some people are not interested in using it because it's usage as a passenger carrying aircraft in real life has almost finished, but I couldn't care less about that type of thing in my sim. I'm perfectly happy to fly a Garuda MD-11 from Warsaw to Athens because I just want to :-) Additionally the MD-11 is just so different to fly that it really makes a pleasant change.Another user (thanks Dave) recommended the AOA training package for the MD-11 which I also purchased. And am also delighted with.Along with the Supronov design Yak-40 for FS9, I consider the PMDG MD-11 to be one of the most underrated FS9 products ever made. I'm very happy to own both :-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
November 26, 201114 yr Author Great to see I'm not alone! I must check out that Yak-40, the cryllic writing scared me off the first time I checked it out.Scott, I must admit I've never seen it on sale at PMDG, but Aerosoft occasionally has it a little cheaper, IIRC. It really is a work of art. And hey, I'm an x-sailor (RAN) myself, so you know I wouldn't lie to you! Cheers, SLuggyedit - it's 50 euros (assuming you don't pay VAT) at Aerosoft's European store at the moment, don't know what that works out in US$. I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?
November 26, 201114 yr Author And the box is 15% off at the Aerosoft US store, so it's US$59.50 at the moment. It'll more than pay you back over it's lifetime, I've had it since the day it came out and she's still unbeatable!Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?

I'm very happy to own both :-)Hi Gavin, thanks for the praise, I only speak as I find and if a product is good I will praise it as much as possible.Answer to the O.P is that yes, I love the MD-11. Not an aircraft that I really liked in reality but after watching the ITVV DVD of this aircraft, I just couldn't get enough of it. I liked it so much I went ahead and purchased the FSX version from 'play.com' and fly it in both sims.I also fly the new NGX but it still doesen't get the flying hours I devote to the MD-11, as good as it is. As Gavin says, if you want to get closer to the MD-11 learn about it with AoA's superb video tutition course. You'll love it even more then. :) Dave Taylor
November 26, 201114 yr Despite the high price I bought it the day it was out. I had a huge sentiment for MD-11 because of the old FS98 package by Alain Capt, which was my first more complex addon aircraft for the MFS series.Howevever I must admit I did not become a huge fan of this addon. Nothing special against it. It certainly is a top quality simulation, as it usually is with PMDG products. What I was personally most disappointed with, to be honest, is the panel graphics. I just don't really like it (both 2D and 3D) but, of course, it is a matter of taste, nothing else.Plus there is something in the exterior model which I don't like but, again, it is just me. All in all I find myself flying it only occassionally.I also found rather few ideas, other than some medium/long haul Lufthansa Cargo flights, on where and with which airlines to operate this plane.Once again though: it is a great piece of simulation and operating all the systems is pure pleasure for us, hardcore simmers.Especially that they are quite unique, not like Boeing, not like Airbus, not like Embraer, just MD-11. Fun to learn and master.
November 26, 201114 yr Author Another vote for the AoA training course.Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?
November 26, 201114 yr I must check out that Yak-40, the cryllic writing scared me off the first time I checked it out. There's an option that lets you use our Latin alphabet. A simple click and it's done. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

November 26, 201114 yr I have the AOA package and the MD11, but flying the iFly 73X has been so much fun since it came out, I haven't so much as taxi'd her out of the .zip file. I'll get to it soon enough, I'm sure. The MD11 is a magnificent piece of sim-work. Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. November 26, 201114 yr I wish I had bought it! But as someone else told, 80$ are just abit too much. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
November 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member As a primary FS9 user, and follower of the project since the Bill Granowski days, I still fly the -11 a lot...maybe 1 out of every 3 or 4 flights. I love the MD-11 in real life so this is one of my all time favorite aircraft and after many years of waiting, I bought it on day one.I don't use FS2Crew for it though. I realize FS9 is a dwindling market, i just have too many addons I like too much to part ways with it that don't port over to FSX. And even on my computer, X just does not run well.I am expecting to hold out for Flight and maybe skip FSX at this point. November 27, 201114 yr The PMDG MD-11 is an awesome bird and must have for any hard core simmer, I got both of my MD-11 disks at J&R.com for $49 each a while back (I see now they only have the FSX in stock).I love it every time I hear ######ing Betty say "ekkk ekkk ekkk, elevator motion" a big smile comes over my face as I feel like I am Captain Ruud Bakker!
