November 30, 201114 yr Commercial Member Ive only used the default textures for FSX and never got anything looking like my FS9, and like you said, it was unstable and low frames so I uninstalled it.Heres a few shot of my FS9 to just show a little of what I'm talking about when I say it looks gooood. :)Wish I could show all of them!Any chance you can post your fs9.cfg file/settings?Thanks! November 30, 201114 yr Dear members! I`m pretty new to MSFS and just recently bought FSX Gold Edition, however I was a bit disappointed on the performance I got as a result on my computer so I decided to go for what others say and try FS2004. I got really excited and spent hours...and days looking up all the tweaking and performance settings to get my sim as close to realistic as possible. This is where the headache started again. FS2004 is great in terms of addons and extensions so I installed REX2004, FS Global 2010, Ground Environment Pro, Ultimate Terrain EU and USA, Ultimate Traffic, and several other freeware addons. My system handles it pretty good actually but the whole experience is just everything but realistic. I`ve got duplicate roads, cities and villages that shouldn`t be there and places that should but they`re not. Cut the long story short I`d love to get some sort of help, how to install all this addons to get a satisfying result. I`m not sure how to set up priority of these addons either. I got to the stage when I actually decided to uninstall everything and start it from scratch. There are so many forums and opinions but they`re just confusing me and I`d love to do all in one go starting from a clean .CFG I`d really appreciate your help as it takes literally a day to install everything and I`m so jealous watching all those amazing videos posted how realistic some people can set up their FS.My computer specs are:ASUS P5N-E SLiPentium Dual Core E2180 / upgrading to Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 with Arctic Freezer 7 pro and Arctic FS12 in a couple of days4GB DDR2 MemoryNvidia Geforce GT220 1GB video card Windows XP Professional 32bitThank you for any advice.
November 30, 201114 yr , O.k. maybe it's not that funny but funny just the same (especially the last part)...Faint praiseBut Your right! Sir ! its very unfunny indeedAlways welcome construvtive criticism . A.
November 30, 201114 yr With FS9 and GE Pro, just make a new set with the contrast slider all the way to the left, you will be amazed how good it sudden looks.Just try it, wont cost you anything.
November 30, 201114 yr Its rather touching how people leap to the defense of there respective Sims. They are BOTH good (both have there flaws of course) ,both less than a hundred quid, and both make for a great hobby. They are technical simulators yes ! but they are works of art as well. (probably that side of things appeals to me more ) I am not particularly a real world aviation fan, although I have developed a much greater interest in flying 'right' as my length of service as a sim fan have increased.(Don't just admire a nicely turned out Cumulus behind a setting sun, over a silver sea, from the cockpit of my Cessna) I like to spot a perfect landing in a 737 at LGAV as well. And of course who have we got to thank for all this.....The Demon Microsoft.Andy

December 1, 201114 yr I've never understood why the FSX people feel they have to come to the FS9 forum and put down people who think FS9 is perfect for themselves. If you think FSX is the greatest thing ever, fine, post it to the FSX forum. this is the FS2004 forum, for people who use FS9.I'm glad for Mart that he's discovered how much better FS9 runs on his computer.Welcome to FS9, Mart!
December 1, 201114 yr Author Welcome my son!to the one true faith. As a high priest of the sock.A prayer to the tea planters of the Punjab has been offered up in your name.OM MANI PAD ME HUM!!!!May your flights be many and your landings better than mine.A.Thanks for the entertaining welcome, it all adds to the fun of it. CheersMartin.
December 1, 201114 yr Author I managed to tweak FSX a bit last night and got reasonable frame rates but it just didn't give me the fluidity of flight that I'm getting from FS9, what I find is if you don't get a good smooth flight the plane doesn't react naturally and it just makes flying and especially landing a lot harder than it should be, IMHO.Don't get me wrong I can still crash just as well in FS9 but I certainly feel more in control than when flying FSX.I'm hoping to upgrade my CPU in the new year so hopefully FSX will improve and I know FS9 can only get better so that's certainly a bonus.Like I've always said, regardless of what sim you use the main thing is to enjoy it and not argue about it, after all what's the point of that?cheersMartin.
December 1, 201114 yr Lets hope that it will soon be welcome to FLIGHT!! for all of us.Much as I love old FS9 ,and much as I have got it pretty much set as I want it ,I do finally feel like a new challenge (even if that means a bare bones new sim without all those lovely (freeware mostly in my case) third party addons My one concern I can't believe it will work on my ageing PC (Which is fair do's really things do move on) but I feel a potential Wonga depletion coming on.If FLIGHT gets good early reviews but only works well on current and fairly recent hardware I KNOW somehow I will have to find the loot.Anyways enough already with the waffle its December and its BIG announcement time.I am all ears or even eyes.A.
December 1, 201114 yr FS9 STILL ROCKS!!! No denying FS9s rockability. But it time i think for new simming pastures.
December 1, 201114 yr Faint praiseBut Your right! Sir ! its very unfunny indeedAlways welcome construvtive criticism .A.You totally misunderstood my point. I was talking about the 'Smiley Icon' where it's all over the floor laughing. Your comment to me was funny and well placed. I may actually use it sometime.
