I can see them selling Flight add ons on here:http://www.engadget....-with-more-met/
Very true....I kind of like it over buying addons through websites online. Seems much less complicated.

Agreed. I really think this could work. It's a Win, Win for all involved.Developers get far greater exposure to potential customers.Consumers get easy '1 click' access to new add ons, presumably with some kind of review process in place. And MS takes it's share of the revenue.Everyones should be happy right?

It's a win for Microsoft, anyway. I can't really see how it's a win for customers who will surely end up paying more (and possibly getting less).As someone noted in another post, it's probably going to look something like this:Microsoft Flight: Hawaii Edition - $59.99...USA Add-On - $29.99...Canadian Add-On - $29.99...European Add-On - $29.99...Caribbean Add-On - $29.99...etc.
Everyones should be happy right?
I wouldn't go as far as to say that EVERYONE should be happy.Vendors like SimMarket and FSPilotshop ETC could potentially go out of business if MS Flight gets enough popularity.

Its a win for MS, I can see why add on developers are not happy... this will cut into their profits, especially if this is the only way you can sell add ons for FLIGHT as some have speculated.Either they'll end up jacking up the prices of already high priced add on's or some companies will just not make them for FLIGHT.

I doubt it, if that's the only option for add on's for FLIGHT, then look for many developers to simply not develop for FLIGHT. Or severely scale back their FLIGHT product line to maybe one or two items while continuing to support FS9 and FSX and XP10...

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

That is simply not entirely true. Most developers are paying a publisher some percentage of their total sales right now, with rates running from 12% of gross to 60% of gross! So making the argument that if MS opens their own "on line store" will result in the developer making less is simply incorrect. It may, or may not make any difference at all, although I would suggest that having a single-source that's seen by everyone who does buy "Flight" may well result in much MORE income for developers.

All speculations here....1: Only MS's addons will be sold in their store without 3RD party developers invited in.2: MS will sell only 3RD party addons in their store.3: Ms and 3RD party addons will be sold in MS's store only.4: MS will allow all addons (3RD party and MS's addons) to be sold outside MS's store.Pick the the best possible solution MS will go with to make money and to erase piracy as much as possible and you'll have your answer.

If Flight is a win for our community... Why in the world WOULDN'T everyone switch? But, you still have XP users here on the forum and we are in the dawn of Windows 8.....

Closed distribution system... that's what we've been discussing, because more than one add on developer came out and said (in violation of an NDA, I guess...) its what MS is pushing. Your analogy does not apply here, because as we both know. MSFS is an open system for add on developers. They can package, sell, distribute and install them however they like, within the limits of the SDK.If this becomes the only option for FLIGHT aka a closed distribution system... its all moot. You point is flawed regarding this possibility. WHich may be a reality if what many DEV's is saying is true.

Where is this posted? I'd like to read it too.I'm being sincere; I'd like to read the statement.I haven't got the same impression yet myself.I haven't ruled it out, but it seems against the wider strategy I see from MS.Right now I see MS and Google (Android) trying to draw developers by offering better choices than Apple. The closed market is Apple's strategy, but it is also it's weakness. Using sticks instead of carrots.

A Flight store would be great if it was done right. Having all in one place instead of 100s of places would be great for the community and I suspect it would attrackt a lot of new customers. I know a lot of flight simmers that don't own a single addon.

I share your thought anyway there is also the dark side of the moon, third parties production would be forced to pass by MS, someone may choose therefore of course to drop the ball, above all freeware productions. That would be a scary scenario like Skynet in Terminator.

If you look at the App-store for comparison there is a lot of freeware, so hopefully a Microsoft/Flight store wouldn't be any different. Pherhaps it would be even better and separate the wheat from the chaff. As I've expressed earlier I'm very torn about the freeware scene. There is a lot of good about it, and a lot of bad. Quality freeware is few and far between and ideally it should have been better organized. Copyright issues is a pain as well. A lot of freeware developers put too much effort into protecting their free work so it can't be used by others. If all freeware were free to use in all freeware, installers and update software could have been developed. Just imagine the potential of AI aircraft if people from all around the world could contribute aircraft models and routes to a common database that was connected to a single installer that would update automatically all new aircraft and routes, just as easy as updating the weather in the sim. I'm straying off topic here, but, I'm just saying...
