February 10, 201214 yr Hello,As you may have read on this forum, openStreetMap buildings data is very poor in Seattle (and globally for whole united states cities). But you can find some esri gis shapefiles on governement websites, with some buildings footprints. So i added shapefiles file format support to osm2xp, and made a test on Seattle, with the scenery files mentionned in this topic , Honnli custom Seattle , and Simmon CDB.First, i don't know why, but when getting close to the center of the city, autogen is nearly empty.I have all sliders on totaly insane, i can see a lot of autogen houses when i'm on the airport, but downtown, nothing. Maybe i'm doing something wrong, maybe there's an exclusion somewhere dunno.Whatever , here are a few screens. The "before" screens shouldn't be as empty in my opinion, but as i said, i have something wrong in this area. CheersBen
February 11, 201214 yr Benny, that is absolutely incredible! Seattle looks a lot fuller with those shapefile buildings! Hopefully shapefiles for other countries that are lacking osm buildings are available (will be very handy). As for why downtown Seattle is that empty, I'm not sure why that happens, but that sometimes happens to me as well. Might be the gpu running out of vram? I dunno. Does it happen every time?@Steve, yeah, those flytampa converted sceneries looked stunning! I was drooling at those pics. lol Steven Intel i7 950, Gigabyte GTX 960 2GB G1 Gaming Edition Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC 6GB, 12GB RAM, HDD SSD
February 11, 201214 yr Yeah that happened every time, i even restarted xplane a few times to check if one scenery file in my custom scenery folder would exclude autogen.I'm not out of vram (i have a 2gb gpu), and it's really once i'm downton, that's weird.Plus it's not totaly empty, there are a few autogen houses, so it's not an exclusion neither.I'm using the latest beta (10.4b2).
February 13, 201214 yr Here are two videos I have put up on youtube to showcase both X-plane's superb night lighting and the fantastic Seattle scenery add-on (a little motivation to produce more perhaps - heehee!!) - Best watched in 1080p HDCheers
February 13, 201214 yr Ha, I was finishing off the Wells Fargo Center when you posted those. Nice videos btw. And thanks again for your compliments. They certainly do provide some motivation. :) Steven Intel i7 950, Gigabyte GTX 960 2GB G1 Gaming Edition Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC 6GB, 12GB RAM, HDD SSD
February 24, 201214 yr Ben, if you're still having problems with the Seattle CBD not showing any autogen, I think I know what's causing that. Your plane is probably too far from the CBD. I think there is a limit to how far from your plane the objects are displayed. This is not the world detail setting in the rendering menu. That specifies how far from the camera objects are displayed. Rather, it might be the visibility setting in the weather menu which determines the distance from your plane at which objects are displayed, I'm not sure. Last night I was looking around Melbourne in XP10 with the free cam while my plane was parked on the runway at Melbourne International Airport, and I had exactly the same problem that you were having. The Melbourne CBD, and the surrounding suburbs, just won't show any autogen no matter what setting I change it to, and I was dumbfounded. But then I decided to take my plane up for a spin, and lo and behold, the autogen started to appear as I flew closer to the area. So yeah.Anyway, on another note, I have received my XP10 discs two days ago, but unfortunately, one of the discs appears to be defective. Some of the files on that discs just can't be read no matter what I tried. I've tried it on two other DVD drives, and even on two laptops to no avail. I have contacted the LR tech support already and fortunately, they have agreed to send out a replacement disc free of charge, which is great.Regarding my Seattle pack, I don't have much to share at the moment. I've been preoccupied by some other games recently, and haven't really done much work on the pack. And Larry is still busy with work, I think. So yeah, nothing to see just yet. =P Edited February 24, 201214 yr by Honnli Steven Intel i7 950, Gigabyte GTX 960 2GB G1 Gaming Edition Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC 6GB, 12GB RAM, HDD SSD
February 26, 201214 yr Hello,I've been spending much of the weekend learning the ropes and reading the tutorials for sketchup and scenery creation in general.Very new to sketchup and could do with some assistanceI'm focussing on an object imported from google warehouse (Aberdeen Airport Control Tower). I've got to the point where it appears in xplane without textures, but looks OK in overlay editor.I've gone over the readme's and tutorials several times over:- Object is using only one texture file- No missing textures from any surfaces on the object- PNG file for texture is 1024x1024 px.Obj header text is as follows:---------------------------I800OBJTEXTURE Aberdeen Airport Tower Collage.pngTEXTURE_LIT Aberdeen Airport Tower Collage_LIT.pngPOINT_COUNTS 600 0 0 1191--------------------------Any suggestions for what I'm doing wrong? Edited February 26, 201214 yr by anthony_d
February 26, 201214 yr Fixed it! You can't have spaces in your texture filename!Off to bed, flying out of the real Aberdeen tomorrow morning..,,,, back to work :-(
April 3, 201214 yr Do you have to make two textures for the building day and night?? I'm sure you do, but how do you do the cross fade between the two?? I have seen some buildings on here during sunset or sunrise and then some during the day and some during the night.. How do you make the transitional part come out right??
April 4, 201214 yr @Wolfman and Mike, great to see more people adding to the world of XP10. :) It's not overly difficult, but it can be fairly time consuming depending on the complexity of the buildings. That is a fantastic scenery , is that the one north of KSEA ? sorry I live in India so not much knowledge of the US cities. Ah OK let me ask you , is it possible to create something similar for my home town Mumbai - India ? I am still using the demo of XPX so I know that I shall only see water and no terrain but at least the cities can be seen right ? Whenever I try to create using osm2xp I always get "no dsf generated" during build. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
April 5, 201214 yr It seems like you have two questions here ... is that [scenery] the one north of KSEA ? Yes, downtown Seattle is located just a little north of KSEA ... however I *think* they recently disabled Demo users from installing Custom Scenery folder during the 10.04 beta period, so you might not be able to use this scenery now. Whenever I try to create using osm2xp I always get "no dsf generated" during build. That is normal, I exported a small section of mumbai (from Mumbai central to Nariman point) and this is what I got. 05/04/12 00:39:48 : Listing tiles in file mumbai.osm 05/04/12 00:39:48 : listing of tiles complete 05/04/12 00:39:48 : 2 tile(s) found 05/04/12 00:39:48 : Starting X-Plane 9 generation of tile 18/72 05/04/12 00:40:11 : stats : 734 buildings, 0 forests, 0 street lights, 0 objects. (generation took 0h0m22s) 05/04/12 00:40:24 : Starting X-Plane 9 generation of tile 19/72 05/04/12 00:40:26 : Tile 19/72 is empty, no dsf generated 05/04/12 00:40:26 : Generation finished. I noticed that Mumbai is on a peninsula surrounded by water, most likely the ignored tile is water. I would not worry too much about it. -Carrot
April 5, 201214 yr I noticed that Mumbai is on a peninsula surrounded by water, most likely the ignored tile is water. I would not worry too much about it. -Carrot I have not updated XPX just once or twice after installation if IIRC. Yep mumbai is an island :) But mumbai has a lot of buildings and I don't see much buildings is that due to openstreetmap still does not have more info for Mumbai ? should the airport also show me the buildings (ICAO - VABB ) ? Thanks for your reply. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
April 5, 201214 yr I don't see much buildings is that due to openstreetmap still does not have more info for Mumbai ? OSM's data is only as good as to what people have contributed.
April 5, 201214 yr OSM's data is only as good as to what people have contributed. Is there any tool that I can use to map from google or put up buildings in openstreet and then download the .osm file ? Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
April 5, 201214 yr For Mac & Linux users there is gmaps for X-plane http://members.ferrara.linux.it/cavicchi/GMaps/ and for Windows users there is a plugin called g2xpl ... these programs will allow you to grab orthophoto's from google maps/earth service. From there you can use OSM2XP to generate 3d facades for X-Pane from the building placement work that people have done for OSM.
