OK I have managed to read all the locked stuff over at Orbx. I personally don't give a darn if JV didn't go and get his $35 back on an XBOX, I would have. I have many times, taken my receipts in managed to get significant $$ back on items that go on sale in close proximity to the purchase date. Its as simple as that. Most recently, I got $150 back on a computer from Future Shop. So don't give me that crap.I was expecting there would be all sorts of sales, but never in a month of sunday's would I expect to pay more for a pre-paid product, with no gaurantee of delivery date, and that explains the mad rush to get those products out the door 2 days before Christmas because then they could not have provided the 33% sale discount.I would be happy if Orbx would review my receipt, and the provide me with the 15% credit on my next purchase, just like all other businesses would do, just becuase JV might think it below him to ask for his money back on an XBox doesn't mean many many others would not be rushing in to get theirs.

On the FSS order page add in the discount code OZXMEMBER to get the extra 5% discount.

It's amazing how many posters were only too glad to install a number of free airports from ORBX and sing their praises in response but the moment something goes against them a totally different reaction comes out.Maybe JV has made the right decision eh?......customer loyalty not all it's cracked up to be is it.
A few months back Orbx sent an email out to people who had purchased all their 2011 stuff. They said one of the upcoming airports would be made free to those customers. In my haste to pre-order all the stuff back in October I accidentally paid for the airport that I should have got for free. I didn't bother contacting FSS for a refund because I thought what the hell, I've got so much enjoyment from Orbx products I'll happily pay for the free airport - after all I'm supporting a developer that produces quality products I enjoy. Now this 33% sale is a slap in the face to everyone like me who has supported Orbx this year. That and Mr Venema's replies leave a very bad taste in my mouth.Still, lesson learned.

Don't get this idea of "supporting ORBX" or any other company for that matter. ORBX produced the goods and thats why people gave them their hard earned cash.If ORBX had produced sub standard products where do you think all these 'loyal customers' would have gone to?Load of baloney if you ask me!Bryan.

I was going to wait for the DVD release of NZ South Island but for a 33% discount I will happily put up with the slow download speed. Also got Canberra as well.Don't think I will ever pay full price for any ORBX product in the future though.

Quite a strange comment from you as above you said "customer loyalty not all it's cracked up to be is it." so you obviously have some notion of customer loyalty/support for a certain brand or company. It's not a difficult concept really. A company makes quality products that I enjoy, therefore I buy from them in the hope they will continue to make such products. Now let's try another easy concept:A company offers a product to me on pre-order at a 15% discount. I take them up on the offer because I have hitherto enjoyed their products and am confident I will enjoy these new ones. No release date is given, but I hand my money over in good faith.A couple of months roll by and the product is released. I'm pretty happy.A couple of days after having the product delivered I am quite dismayed to see it's now on sale with a 33% discount! Not only that, the producer is telling pre-order customers who have voiced their displeasure to wind their necks in and stop being selfish and ungrateful! Now, as a hitherto loyal customer and supporter, I would have hoped the producer would have shown some more scruples.

Riiiiight, having a healthy, respectful relationship with your customers is such a load of baloney. :Rolling Eyes:The point you are missing is that, all emotion aside, they have gone back on the originally stated intent of the pre-pay option as I quoted in my previous post.

It's all very simple really, JV would rather just deal with customers as just that, not people who somehow think they are ORBX's benefactors. Much simpler that way no doubt.

I think you will find that ORBX always intended to keep their pricing models under review, that is quite clearly stated on their forum. What has happened is that a review has taken place, not that complicated really.Bryan.

Well, I figure I'm out about $12. YBAS and PAKT were the only two pre-pays I made. Not real happy, but, not that big of a deal. The response from them is discouraging but not surprising. My only issue is that they released PAKT "missing" the improvements to the town that were originally advertised. John did say they decided to get PAKT out and add the town features as a future service pack so all the anxious folks could fly PAKT NOW. Now I wonder if it wasn't pushed out due to this sale, because the howls would have been a lot louder if the sale was offered before a pre-pay was released . . .Caveat emptor - your an appreciated customer as long as your money is good. Could have been handled a lot better from my perspective as a customer, but, that seems not to matter. I will also be selfish in the future and just wait for sales on down under products.

One thing I've learned after years of having been involved in a few business is that customer loyalty goes out the window the minute you raise your prices. Customer loyalty is based on money not "loyalty".ORBX could have handled this a little better though. Now where did my wife hide that credit card...

I can see both sides. As far as the context of getting the product before Christmas, like John points out in his xbox game analogy, it makes total sense and is a scenario i have been thru many times. Problem I see with that is that the prepay deal wasn't marketed that way. I work in retail management and while some stores do match prices, the ones I work in do not and it doesn't hurt our business other than the occasional "customer is always right" advocate raising hell till he is escorted out. From a consumer point of view, yeah, I would be a little ticked off if I had pre payed and then only had a few days with the product till it went on sale for cheaper, but like with all purchases, you live and learn. We all know they will have this sale every year from now on, so be ready next time.the same way that some of you just can't fathom Johns thinking on this, I am sure that there are just as many that can't fathom your outcry on it either. Now I am off to get me some new scenery woohoo!

Yes exactly. JV needs to stop being so defensive. The trouble is that products purchased directly usually come with 30 return policy. Therefore, if it goes on sale, they will give you the sale price, period because otherwise you give the product back and just buy the new one at the cheaper price. So as I keep on saying, just give us old time loyalty pre-pay customers a credit toward future purchases, then I'm happy as hell, and also through in some polite Canadian, "i'm sorry" we made a mistake, instead of going on the attack.

Yes and NZ was very buggy, which was patched already for crying out load, they hurried them for Christmas and it shows for the first time, and they knew that they were going to put the whole bloody lot for sale a couple of days later.

Yes and no. Small businesses likely do not have price guarantee's but chains that sell xboxes do. Usually 30 return policies, bring it back get your money back. So, therefore, if they put it on sale YOU CAN get the same new price within a 30 period. That is a fact. I will need to cool down, likely will not pre-pay anymore (and I pre-paid for the latest 8 products), may not buy instantly (we will see), but just wait it out. Likely will now be very very selective ie no more AU airports, or NZ airports just scenery.
