. . . What other industry would people even dream of making a request like that in? If I buy a car and the model two years down the road is less money, do I roll up to the dealership demanding money?
Well, in my brick and mortar business - a client buys an item and it goes on sale - if they come in or call and ask for "satisfaction" it is given if it is in a reasonable time, pleasantly and with a smile. Not an in-expensive as a piece of software either, but not a new car (which is a poor example IMHO).Oh - and an edit to add - we will also tell clients if we know an item is going on sale very soon - and either give them the sale price early, or advise them to come back when it is on sale - based on their needs. Many vendors want you to be enamoured with them, to the point of blindly accepting their actions and loving them no matter what. In the end, its a business tactic, nothing more, nothing less.

I solved this issue a long time ago, I dont buy anything that doesnt offer a refund policy,,, and Flight 1 is the biggest beneficiary. And thats not just for FS.... I bought a TV a few years ago for $1500 and 2 weeks later it was on sale for $700, guess what happened :-)

So you dont buy from ORBX, PMDG and a whole lot of others?Seems silly to me.

Not until a product has been out for at least a month, and I have watched the forums to see what problems they are having. In ORBX case, no matter how good it is, I'll never get it, same with REX, to each his own.Actually I have pretty much stopped buying anything for FS now, and probably wont until after MS Flight is released.

Jim, the products just got released and are included in the sale already at 33% discount, whereas some customers prepaid for them two months back at 15% discount.
Ah, kind of like something going on sale after Thanksgiving for 15% off and then come to find out that it went on sale after Christmas for 33% off.I guess good thing come to those that wait.

Perhaps, if the two are a day or two apart, which they are not.

OK okay, how about something goes on sale on Friday for 15% off and you purchase it then. On Monday it then goes on sale for 33% off.I guess good things come to those that wait.

I'm really not bothered by the sale,I'm more aggravated by Orbx reaction and lack of respect for their customers.Quote JV TodayHello everyone,In 2012 we're going to do things slightly differently, and keep everything a bit simpler:

  • We will no longer pre-announce any products in development
  • We will not announce release dates at all
  • We will no longer take pre-pays on any products, and the 15% discount will no longer be available as a result
  • We will conduct random sales at varying discount levels for varying periods of time without warning
  • We won't respond to any 'when will XXXX be released' posts at all; those posts will be referred to this one
  • We will tighten our forum moderation even further and continue with our zero-tolerance policy

Orbx does not rely on pre-pay revenue from its customers to fund development. If we ran the business like that we would have closed our doors quite some time ago. Orbx is fully funded by its shareholders and company owners/directors. Pre-pay was always offered as a benefit to the customer, not Orbx. However, we have deemed that having any sort of pre-pay scheme creates finite delivery expectations for some customers and also a distraction to our developers, so we've abolished it. We failed to meet our internal 6-week maximum delivery period this past month on some products, and we're not pleased that occurred at all. These policy changes have been planned for quite some time.I'd like to note that Orbx does not sell 'relationships' with its customers, just the finest quality scenery and airports with the best support. You purchase our products; we support it. Please don't expect anything more than that from our company. We are a business selling quality FS addons, not an internet dating site smile.pngIf you begin to see numerous preview screenshots on our preview forums, that is a sign a product will be released soon. We will release products "when they are done", and when the development and testing team agree to a minimum standard of finish. We will remove all deadline pressure from developers so they can focus on releasing bug-free products that are as robust as possible. We intend to release more products in 2012 than we did in 2011 for both FSX and P3D. FSX remains our core platform and will do so for many years to come.

Sounds like the PMDG forum lol
I would say that they are far worse than PMDG.

This whole thing is so silly. ORBX announced a sale that we all knew was coming, and yes, if you bought the scenery before the sale you paid more. It happens all the time, it's a free market economy. Everyone makes decisions based on their own self interest and, for reasons of your own, you bought when you did. You were happy then and now that it's cheaper, and not by much if you already got the 15% discount, people seem to be upset that other people are getting a better deal. Suck it up and enjoy the scenery and don't be so worred about whether someone got a marginally better deal than you did because they waited for the sale.
you have missed the point completely. Please read the other thread properly.

From my post in the other thread on this subject:The fact that they are having a sale right now doesn't bother me. However, including products released a few weeks (or DAYS ago, as with OS9 and PAKT) was not something they did with their past sales. For example, I bought Cushman Meadows at full price during their last big sale in May. It was not discounted because, in Mr. Venema's words, "We feel this is fairer on those customers who prepaid for KCMW at full price, when they did not have to." At that time, there was no discount for pre-payers. In the same post, he also said: "Also in respect to pre-paying we've changed our policy to give pre-payers a 15% discount incentive from now on; something that will be welcomed I am sure. So we protect loyalty in two ways: a 15% discount and protection from sale pricing."I'm not going to "suck it up" when a company says one thing and does another. However I agree that it is a free market economy, and that people act on their own self interest. Since Mr. Venema has already accused me of being selfish, I will now act the part and stop being so generous toward them with my scenery purchases.
