Shame on Microsoft

Featured Replies

SHAME SHAME SHAME.Without all the addons flight sim is CRAPOLA. Flight sim is dull, boring, and not worth it.The world is way too big for Microsoft only. The planes are way too complex for Microsoft only. This is DISASTER.Who was the Microsoft goofball who had this ridiculous idea? Any attempt to communicate with the 'community' after this balls up will be met with malice.Remember that guy who called Aces management a pack of corporate wolves? He's right. You think we're really going to keep shelling out more and more money every week for this junk? The model sux it will FAIL.No detailed scenery, No detailed planes, No detailed weather effects, No detailed AI, No Vatsim, No custom textures/sounds, No cool addons, No cool utilities = FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.People have short memories. Not me. On day one, FSX was a P.O.S. 4 stutters per second over Seattle in a Cessna. Embarrassing, yes.But then came the feverish efforts of the 'community'. New textures, hacks, addons. It became useable (just). If you didn't like it you could always go back to Fs9 with it's million add on's.MS Flight will be known as the KAMIKAZE of flight Sims. Guided by those with a death wish. One massive nose dive which misses it's target and explodes in a fireball. It will appeal to NOBODY. The product is FAIL. The product is BOYCOTTED.

You may well be right about most things, but you are most definitely wrong about the above. If anything the nice folks at ACES were as much victims of the "corporate wolves" as we the flightsim community! :( ACES was trying very hard to give "us" what we wanted, and paid the ultimate price when they were summarily FIRED en-masse a few years ago.

I was astonished when ACES was fired way back when. I am still astonished. I am even more astonished at the microtransaction direction and the "game" direction that they have taken. Geocaching and coin collecting? Those belong in a console game, not flight simulation. I also really don't see how this will attract "new" customers. You're either into aviation or you're not. Those that are into aviation don't want to play an arcade game and "level up". Flight Simulation is a tough market. It's a niche market. Even real aviation is a niche market. There are 600,000 FAA licensed pilots in the United States, and there are only about 300,000 active pilots. What they are doing with Microsoft Flight is not likely to do anything to attract more people to aviation. FSX was not a barrier to the mainstream. The mainstream just wasn't interested in flight. Is that somehow going to change with the release of Microsoft Flight? No. Duh. It proves that Microsoft just doesn't "get it".

I personallly talked to many at ACES for long hours on the phone during the FSX beta. A ton of things that we as devs wanted they also wanted. We even had the marketing figured out for them. Also the idea of targetting the 'liesure simmer' had nothing do with what has happened now. They have now started and nearly ended on a path where they 'think' that they will expand is just dreaming on their part. It will be 50X harder to try and expand on something like this then it would have been to just start over and do it right from the start after 20+ years. This new version would have been better suited on an Iphone....lol.

Oh we did indeed! The idea of having a base platform "World Simulator" with bolt-on modules for Flight, Trains, Ships, et cetera I believe would have been far more "saleable" than this current approach. Even the DLC model was being considered to make it easier than ever for the customer to locate and install new content, without eliminating the current third-party distribution models. Now THAT was a dream worth dreaming!

Let's face it, this is a marketing disaster. They did not talk to their base and in fact sealed them out. If I were 10 to 35 years old, what they propose would have my attention span for maybe 10 minutes...tops. I'd be off to something that is actually exciting. Hawaii, come on !!!! The lure of this game to it's very loyal fans is the reality of it's complexity. It's base will pay the price in more ways than one in order to enjoy all of that. In my opinion, they destroy the allure while doing little to nothing to attract a new base. Let's all just relax, take a break, and go drink a can of "new" coke. There is an out-of-touch product manager in every group. At least new options are emerging. This will get them pumped !And I'll bet our good and loyal friend Justin over at his FSG is doing a major celebration. If I were him, I would too.Bob - Las Cruces, NM.

Yeah Bill, that was the basic concept. That would have captured both types of simmers and enabled a better marketplace within the sim as well. Win-Win. Step 2 was to reverse market the sim itself thus 3rd party providers driving the audience to the sim itself and vice-versa. It would have allowed for 3rd party devs to essentially be able to market via TV commercials if they wanted to without fearing they'd be spending money for nothing and capturing the 90% of users who aren't here on Avsim.....the weekend 4 hour simmers.I could go on and on....you remember.. :-)

The saddest part of this is that ACES was within mere weeks of beginning the Trains 2 beta, with the FSvNext coming along splendidly in Alpha development. :(

That's exactly what the next sim needed to be.At least now, everyone knows that MS and XP out of the running for the next best sim. That creates opportunity. Think about it. The two biggest possible competitors are out of the game...This really helps to end the speculation so we can move on to greener pastures

I haven't seen a fail of this magnitude coming down the road since Duke Nukem was released last year.

The flightsim community is at a loss, but the gaming community is celebrating a win.
