LOL Haha! Sorry! That's what you get when you are scanning the forums and posting all over the place... My bad: I should have read the context. :( Aerofly FS indeed has no night. And no seasons either.

No problem, it does happen.

i was talking about Aerosoft FS ...of course Flight has night/dawn and so on but Aerosoft doesnt. So everyone says Aerosoft FS is soo good but it doesnt even have a night ?

I didn't say Aerofly FS is good... :( I am 'warning' people about Aerolfy FS all the time, that it is NO sim and that MS Flight is more of a sim then Aerofly FS!

But X plane 10 X plane 9 and all other versions, FSX, FS9, FS2002, FS2000, FS98 and beyond are still all more of a sim than Flight.

New flight simulators don't come around very often so it's nice to see one being developed and show some promise. I like what I see so far.
+1Lost count of the years I've been waiting for another FS contender to come around..Flight is not it, whatever the ###### on this forum say..and boy, will that egg look good when it does turn out to be a turkey /me ducks and runs away laughing maniacally... blum.gif

And everyone has to start somewhere...remember FS 3.1? Compare that to FSX and tell me Aerofly isn't a good thing? Even if it takes a few years to get where it's going, it's always good to have choice and differentation in the market-place. Of course, if the dev's stop here and rest, it is what it is, but if enough ppl buy it, it could turn into something worthwhile..who knows?

BTW, stop looking for an alternative to FSX, there isn't one that even comes close.
Maybe for the moment, but this is about a new durable platform that is designed to take advantage of the direction hardware has been moving of late in terms of optimal multi-core, multi-processor, and multi/SLI/Crossfire support with much more robust utilization of GPU's and what they can be counted upon (thru DirectX and other) to share the total load of the simulation. I think FSX really is a dying platform, and people would love to see NextGen Flight Simulator with the sort of headroom that drives not only hardware but 3rd party developers. I for one am clamoring for this, and not because I already can get the very most out of FSX since I can't with the hardware I'm on. But truly, a core platform w/ robust SDKs for scenery & aircraft for starters, and perhaps build in a first rate ATC as part of the core. Think about the seamless the execution of FSX's albeit limited content ATC. At least it's fluid and quite natural sounding and non-concatenated. Take that and improve it 200%! That's a place to put work into a core IMO. Anyway, we look for this from somewhere. If not Icarus, then surely, eventually, someone else. I believe there is a huge market for a truly, high end home flight simulation product. I think it's very wrong to assume the market for a truly awesome upgrade is the exact same market as the current FSX market. Many folks don't bother with it because you have to be very in deep to understand how to get the most out of it. You don't just plug and play and have a complete experience. What I'd love to see is one built for Mac OS, that simplifies the end-user knowledge base required to have a complete sim experience. Buy the new 737NGX and what do you know, it works perfectly from the get go! Standard the hooks the platform uses. Plan way ahead for a variety of add ons. This is possible for sure IMO. Especially since your first task is to build the core correctly in spades. Port out the scenery, aircraft, utilities, etc to 3rd parties via a complete and yet controlled set of SDKs. FSX is the best we currently have for mere mortals, but it is very easy to envision something less dated as a core than FSX surely is.Noel

Flight Simulation is a niche market and Flight Simulators that model the globe are complex and expensive to develop. From a commercial point of view, it would be best to create a simulation platform that has the underlying technology necessary for complex simulation but make it accesssible and attractive to a wider market at the same time by having simpler controls and a friendly interface - like a game for example. On release the simulator would only have a small geographical area modelled and limited aircraft. This way, new areas and aircraft models could be developed and sold over time maintaining a continuous revenue stream. The money could then be re-invested into making more add-ons and more importantly, improvements to the simulation engine.

And Flight Simulation is a relative term. There comes a point at which the product becomes so compelling that the niche becomes much larger. Take iPhone for example. They garnered huge support from people who wouldn't consider a smart phone previously. So too I feel for Flight Simulation.

I love the graphics in Aerofly. I'd say the biggest reason it looks so good is it doesn't have to do seasons, weather, and time-of-day. One set of awesome photo-real textures is all they need. Even subtle and complex scenery shadows could be bakes into the environment. Without simulating a changeable environment a photo-real look is more or less doable these days. In MSFS the environment is more dynamic - to simulate IFR and night flight. It means the scenery must be more procedural. It’ll take some advancement in hardware and software before an IFR sim looks like Aerofly. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if they have the plans already.

Just ordered it and it will arrive in 2-3 weeks (US, backordered). At first glance via the numerous videos it looks pretty impressive. Yes dumbed down in spots (autopilot comes to mind) but if flight dynamics and FPS hold up as well as they do in the videos, I think I will have lots of hours of fun flying the beautiful country of Switzerland. All for just $49.95, or the cost of many of the add-on’s for FSX now-a-days.Saw someone call it out as F U 10…I interpret that as Flight Unlimited 10. As a former beta tester and proud owner of that product from Looking Glass Studios I would have to agree. Great model. Small land space, high detail, complex in parts, simpler in others. Works for me!Not leaving FSX, just joining aeroFlyFS! Besides it will just compliment my very large collection of simulations of all types.See you in the skies over Switzerland,Braun

Quote of the day! Seriously. Sums up how I feel about it. Will be ordering it as soon as physically possible....ehem, when the wife is not looking! Rhydian

AeroflyFS looks to be a good foundation for a solid future for Flight Simming... Honestly in terms of both business and as Aviation enthusiasts the developers of it would be absurd to not integrate currently missing features such as night and seasons and rest of the world but since 3rd party development is supported it is easily expandable... Im suprised lots of FSX devs havent jumped on AeroflyFS yet as it seems to be our only hope (Flight has a 'small chance for being turnt into a sim) of pushing the Flight Simulation genre foward... You can sit there all you Like and say FSX or even FS9 fulfills your needs but the genre needs to evolve. Where is your desire for innovation for heavens sake, if all of us thought like that we would still be stuck with the ball point pen. Im getting tired of being stuck in this age of horrendously optimised code. Aerofly FS looks like an amazing fresh start. If it garners enough support then it is almost a guaranteed successBy the way is it possible for 3rd party devs to add the rest of the world with the SDK provided by Aerofly or is it up to them?
