And its size, its only 1Gig. I have Powerpoint presentations that are bigger. No doubt on the first day of release EVERYONE is going to download it if for nothing else but out of morbid curiosity.
Haha....nice1!

I have to comment on Comma's post above. I agree with pretty much everything except for a 70-30 split in favor of the developer, it would never happen... the house, as they would put it, always takes the lion share of profit as they are the ones that take more of the risk. I would venture to guess that preliminary negotiations between MS and the dev's ended when MS offered low commissions (under 15%) and terms that any good business person would not agree to.MS in it of itself is not the evil entity her, rather place your blame on the performance/bonus driven executive that has extinguished any hope of a mature sim that we had all hoped for. We are a strong community and one day we will be presented with a platform that will be touted as the premier sim, one that we are all looking forward to flying, patience my friends, patience.Currently we have FS9, FSX and XPX each one of which we call as being "our" sim, let's be thankful that we have them and let's be thankful for the dev's that continue to provide great products for them.

So will any of u download the base pack to try it out? Seriously though.
--------------------------------------------------Sure I will...and you just KNOW that EVERYBODY reading/posting/venting will also as well. Why not? We have all played Donkey Kong, etc as young persons. Why would I not have this on my hard drive, so when my 16 year old nephew comes over, it might interest him to take the A5 and go for some coins. Everybody is going to download it, including Mike T. Why wouldn't he? We all want to see the thing on our own screens after all the 18 month hype. I'll even keep the base freebie, like I said for any kids, including my grand kids. Will I drop any money beyond the free download? I have no intention of. If the kids find it boring after 1/2 hour of playing....I'll free up the hard space only then. Anyways, that is what I intend to do with it.Mitch

I wouldn't. Because regardless of the fact that it's free, it is of no interest to me whatsoever.
-----------------------------------------------------Baloney! You'll download it....eventually, ....eventually. You are human...and that being human, comes with curiosity, as the rest of us. Doesn't mean you will keep it past 15 minutes, but that you will download it....is a given. A given......

Two areas where Flight missed the boat. 1. They under estimated the value of developers. 2. Under estimated the hard core community. 3. Over estimated the target market. Game players verses hardcore passionate flyers like ourselves as potiential customers. Lets face it, unless Little Johnny blows something up within .3 of a second into the game, it gets tossed. Flying is a different mindset as far as "gamming" goes. They forgot the "SIM" in Flight. If they had a video showing how well the complex systems worked, and flight model improvements, things of that nature, it may of appeased the hard core element. Without developers being part of the action they have a product that can never be finished and refined. The lifespan of FSX provides evidence in how important developers MUST be part of the process.

The only thing I don't get is why MS would have closed discussion with 3rd parties dev.
They didn't. The devs did. Which says it all.

No, Microsoft closed the discussions. Re-read the postings from the 3rd party developers.

No, seriously, you're wrong. I'm not interested in it and won't download it. You're absolutely right when you say that I'm a human and that with that comes curiosity. My curiosity has been satisfied with what I've already seen. However. if anything changes, if it looks as if this horrible Mario Bros thing is going to be something different to what we've seen, then of course I may change my mind. But as it is, no I have no intention of downloading. Not as some perceived 'protest', not just to try to prove you wrong. Just because, as I said, it's of no interest to me. And that, to quote you, 'is a given. A given.....'If you could see my face now, you'd see I'm writing with a smile - I'm not getting 'all offended' by your post in any way as I don't believe you meant anything offensive at all in yours. Cool? :-)

You were one of the those on here googing and gauging about how great FLIGHT was going to be!
What in the heck are you talking about? You'd better go back and review my posts again. Especially the ones on Flight being Hawaii only. You seem to be confused.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------My post saying "Baloney..." was also in light heart. Well...if you say you won't, then I guess you will not. But having said that....don't be peeking over my shoulder as I fire it up....lol. My curiosity says I will.... :)Mitch

Mitch, that's how I took it. :-) I promise not to peek - you too please ;-) Let me know what you think of it, and if you think it's worth a go, I'll change my mind immediately and give it a go.

I hope you're not a math teacher?

Hmmm a 70-30 split with the devs? Then it's not so much the devs who suffer, but the MSFS franchise publishers.Thinking about it, so many current FS addons hit the pirate sites within minutes of publication that devs get very few $$ for their work. Maybe the Microsoft option will actually increase a developer's revenue? MAYBE even former freeware paints will now be rewarded? 70-30 on a dollar is 70 cents more than a painter would otherwise earn...But of course only if MS allow third party stuff.Devil's Advocate folks - there could be a silver lining... for some...

Chris Brisland - the repainter known as EagleSkinner is back from the dead. Perhaps. Or maybe not.

Good point there.
