January 10, 201214 yr Hi!I have a very new computer (see sig.). When I use FSX with the NGX at airports like EDDF from Aerosoft, I get only 12-14 fps averaged. I used Bojotes Tweaking tool for my FSX.cfg.The FSX-sliders are mid to high set. Shouldn´t I actually get much better FPS (20) ?Have you any hints or tips for getting better frames in FSX?Cheers
January 10, 201214 yr Hi Mate,I have a similar system having only got a 570 last week. you have 2 gig more ram than me but since the update Im getting a nice steady 30 + at most airports so Im thinking there must be a tweak or something missing. are you running at your screen res like 1920x1080 etc and have you got aa and drivers set up ? I get better performance when settings are higher sometimes.hope you get it sorted and keep us posted.Andy Blake
January 10, 201214 yr Commercial Member Certain sceneries (those Megaairport ones are notorious for it) are just not coded correctly to produce high framerates. The best system in the world will still chug on these because it's just overloading the CPU with draw calls. Try with something like Orbx's YMML, FlyTampa's KTPA 2.0, or Flightbeam's KSFO and see if you get better performance there - I get good performance at all of those and my system isn't as good as yours. The big FPS killers as far as slider settings are:- Anything above Low 2.x water- Light bloom- Aircraft casts shadows on itself- Ground scenery shadows- Autogen above Normal or Dense (depends on area)- High amounts of AI traffic- High amounts of thick cloud layers Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
January 10, 201214 yr Try over clocking the cpu to at least 4,6GHZ.I don't know how i achieved this but: THERE IS NO AREA WHERE I GET LESS THAN 20FPS: I CAN EVEN SAY 25. My Maximum is 80FPS during cruise and all the time. ALL THIS WITH THE NGX !CONCLUSION: over clock some more ! January 10, 201214 yr Go to www.venetubo.com/fsx.html Simply fill in your hardware specs, then make sure you set "Optimization Preferences" to CONSERVATIVE, and not "normal". Then download it and place it inside C:/Users/--- your name ---/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX. Then overwrite when prompted. Also, NEVER use lightbloom, NEVER use water MAX 2x, but use LOW 2x instead because it willl give you similar eye candy. Don't use a too big cloud radius also. This should do the trick, otherwise, I don't know. Arjen Vandervelde

The overclock is modest (4.4) but I'm very pleased with result. I'm not a framerate watcher per se but my own impression of smooth flight is critical. My favorite planes can be tough on FPS (RealAir Duke, PMDG's NGX and JS4100, among too many others) and again, I'm seeing a vast improvement over my Q9550/275GTX system. Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual
January 10, 201214 yr Commercial Member Disclaimer:I'm not a hardware guy.Could you issue be that you're delivering content from two different drives? All of the reg files are on your HDD, whereas FSX is on your SSD. In theory the SSD is much faster, but what about the connection between it and everything else? I assume the connection is high speed, but that could be a choke for you if its not.Furthermore, I agree with making sure you go to the venetubo site to tweak the CFG. Without those tweaks even a high end system is choked by the FSX.cfg. Kyle Rodgers
January 10, 201214 yr Hello Ryan!I will test that! Thank you.Does anybody else has got maybe a cfg tweak etc.?CheersAlso at Mega Airports? (they seem to be not very good, like Ryan said..)Your system is very similar to mine and you CPU is clocked only a couple of decimals of a gig below mine, so you should be fine.I have Aerosoft Schiphol FSX and i have pretty good performance. I am externally limited to 30fps and i get that on approach and taxiing. The only time i get the occasional dip down to around 20fps (Acceptable to me), is when i start getting right in close to the terminal and the AI that comes with it.Take a look at Ryan's latest update to the Nvidia Configuration guide in the pinned section of the PMDG General Forum.I thought that i had to use the 8SQ with all the sliders in FSX maxed out to get a good looking sim. Not so, just try Ryans 4S settings (if you haven't already) and you might be pleasantly surprised.regards, Rick Hobbs

The mega airports are terrible onframe hits even with powerful systems avoid Mega Airports if you can help it or minimise your settings if so .

My Maximum is 80FPS during cruise and all the time. ALL THIS WITH THE NGX !CONCLUSION: over clock some more !Be carefull overclocking too much, My own experience is that you get deminishing returns and slowly destroy your processor.I just put together a brand new I5 system from a Q9650 system and after a bunch of research, I realized that I had slowly but surely killed my 9650 eventhough my temps and frequency was not excesive by any means. It's my understanding, that both High frequency and temperatures will degrade the silicon in a chip. As this happens, the chip will start producing eroniuos errors and start correcting itself. It will use clock cycles to correct and take those clock cycles away from FSX. This was my first sign as I started seeing my lower frame rate limit drop out significantly over a few months. Not to toot my computers horn, but I am running the I5 system with all the sliders maxed except autogen (one click away from max) and water (Low 2x) at only 4.0 and only when I run the NGX. (All my other addons I can downclock to 3.3). My vcore at 3.3 is 1.12 and at 4.0 it's 1.24. My performance target for FSX is a consistent 30 frames locked and under the most demanding situations I will get very quick dropouts to 25-28. Most importantly, the sim is glossy smooth and my track ir panning is smooth as well.Lemme see if I can find a link to silicon degradation, so you don't have to take my word on it.http://www.tomshardw...life-expectancyA little old and outdated, but probably still valid with todays chips..http://www.anandtech.com/show/2468/6Theres more if your interested, just search "silicone degradation cpu"Personally, I use the Asus Ai program that allows me to change clock speed in windows. The Bios is setup to boot into a very cool 3.3 and then before I play FSX I change to my OC profile to 4.0 if using the NGX. Then after I'm done, I downclock to bios settings again. I'm hoping to get more longevity out of my chip this way.JB Edited January 10, 201214 yr by Buzz313th Buzz313th
January 10, 201214 yr JB. As long as you you are running consistently in the 50s while using FSX you should be O.K. shouldn't you? What i am asking is: Should we be looking at max acceptable temps regardless of achieved clock speed?Regards, Rick Hobbs
January 10, 201214 yr endless talk ! my opinion is (and thats actually what i did): I got myself an i5 2500k, got ryan advices, read a couple of topics (around 100) about fsx, ovc'ing , Vcore, cpu temp etc...I MADE UP MY MIND and set up my values in the bios: My computer is a winner. AND THX RYAN!!! AS LONG AS YOU ARE WISE, you'll always do well. If my cpu burn, i'll get another one thats it. January 10, 201214 yr JB. As long as you you are running consistently in the 50s while using FSX you should be O.K. shouldn't you? What i am asking is: Should we be looking at max acceptable temps regardless of achieved clock speed?Regards,All of my knowledge regarding is based on the few articles I have read on the web about silicon degredation. It's my understanding that the cpu manufacturers will warantee their chips at the clock speeds they recomend. So if you have an I5 thats got a three year warantee at 3.3-3.7, then you can pretty much bet that it will last that long at those speeds. Degredation occurs at any speed, it's just accelerated at higher temps and frequencies. To answer your question... The higher performance you get outa FSX for a given chip is directly related to cpu load. If you are running unlimited with no FPS limiter than your asking one of your cores to pump out as many frames as it can, thus the main thread/core will always run at 100%. If you limit your frames to 30, but your cpu can pump out 50, then your asking less of your cpu and thus not hammering on the poor thing as hard, thus you will get more life outa it.You have to first ask yourself what you want outa FSX. Then once you have a performance goal, set your computer up to achieve that. The higher your performance goal, then likely, the harder your gonna be hammering on your cpu and motherboard. So if 50 frames is what you want, then set it up that way. If your happy with 30, then downclock till you get that consistently with a fps limiter.Temps and frequency are the end result of your goals. JB Buzz313th
