FSX in non full screen

Featured Replies

Other than being annoying is there a frame rate hit when not in full screen. I see that FScommander cannot run while FSX is in full screen. I will put it on my second monitor but that too won't work while in full screen. Thanks

You should not experience a framerate hit. However you could experience a degradation in visual quality due to the loss of vsync.

For a lot, using windowed mode actually increases performance, just be sure to either hide the taskbar or move it to the other monitor.

I have noticed that fullscreen performance is much better. Although this may be true for many, this can vary widely among thousand of different hardware setups.

I lose anti-aliasing and V-Sync in windowed mode. To avoid using windowed mode I network AS2012, Aivlasoft EFB, and Squawk Box from my laptop. If you have that option, I suggest giving it a spin.

I seriously need to try this out because I have my old i7 920 system accumulating dust.

+1 with Benorg that fullscreen performance is much better .....

As said before, every system is unique :D I get better frames in windowed mode, and I can also access other programs as well such as Google Earth for navigation :D

you will suffer a FPS hit if you run FSX in windowed mode without selecting auto hide the taskbar.ps .. whats annoying about windowed mode?

Edited by Tierborn

I run FSX in window mode with task bar set for auto-hide as I usually have other FSX-stuff running in the background. I have an adjacent older PC box/monitor for charts etc. I found window mode runs faster on my system.

I forgotten about auto hiding the bar. I guess it was annoying because before I kicked the wife off the PC she used to complain that she couldn't get the bar to pop up.. therefore annoying. :-)

I've noticed that with some videodrivers that they will give better performance either in windowed mode or in ful screen.Suggest trying a different driver. The newest drivers are not necessarily the best - what videocard and driver are you currently using?IAN
