January 25, 201214 yr Strange this one. In the NGX and the J41.I fly along in the cruise, frames about 40 to 50, no weather, skies clear, no fancy scenery, REX off, not over a detailed airport. And...Wham!Frame rate drops to 5, yes 5.Stays like that, doesn't budge. Untill...I hit alt/enter and go to windowed mode, frame rate immediately shoots back up to normal. Back to 40-50.I hit alt/enter again back to full screen, and all is well.Doesn't happen that often, but I'm very curious as to why this happens.Andy ideas chaps? I'd like to eliminate this if possible. Edited January 25, 201214 yr by martin-w

January 26, 201214 yr I experienced this for the first time recently, went down to around 5-8 fps with no explanation. Like you it sorted itself out when I went back to windowed mode and back. Would be interesting if anyone knows why this occurs. Alex Steel
January 26, 201214 yr No applications running in the background at all.And FSX is excluded in Microsoft security Essentials.REMOVE the security essentials! It's a piece of crap: heavy, uneffective, laggy etc. When i had it i had often ctd, fps drops, fps always low, even bsod, and i excluded fsx and all his programs. Use avast insted, it's free, very effective, extremely light and easy to use. Best thing is it's structured in protection modules, all indipendent from each other, and you can shut down what you don't need. I deactivate all except imternet traffic protection when i fly, and when i don't need it i completely shut it off. Fps are a dream :)And absolutely don't use kaspersky, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay (did i say it enough?) waaay too resource heavy Edited January 26, 201214 yr by nikita

January 26, 201214 yr You're waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay wrong, bud. The only AV I would recommend besides MSE is ESET Nod.Is he, really?I've had absolutely no issues with AVAST. It's been the perfect solution for me -- never a lick of interference while flying. And as the previous poster said, it's totally configurable on a service-by-service basis. Turn them off, turn them on, bing-bam-done.You don't need to pay $30-$40/year for excellent, non-intrusive protection, or for ESET NOD's "gamer mode." - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. January 26, 201214 yr I have the same problem ocasionally. In fact yesterday I rotated out of HFTF and as the gear was comming up the frames went from my usuall locked 30 to 2fps, not joking. After alt/enering all returned to normal. I have in the past only had this happen upon loading the flight, then I just closed it out and restarted a new one. This is the first time this has happened during the flight. I also use Nod 32 which should not have been the problem. Marc Lynn

Either way, calling MSE resource hungry is irresponsible. Avast is nice, though. Not heavy at all. Quite the opposite.Interesting that quite a few of us are having this problem. It's not just in the NGX, it's also with the J41. I don't fly any other add-ons in the VC, so not sure if it's a PMDG issue, a general VC issue, or what.It usually only happens for me, once per flight, and not on every flight.I wonder if it's the old default flight issue? I'll make sure I load a default aircraft first, and see if it returns. Edited January 27, 201214 yr by martin-w
January 27, 201214 yr COuld be a hardware throttling issue, not sure what kind of rig you're running. Maybe you have some power saving/ heat protection/GPU throttling, etc enabled. Edited January 27, 201214 yr by ohsirus
January 27, 201214 yr Its funny how everyone blames the AntiVirus for their FPS. I been using MSE since it came out and even before that when it went by a different name. Works just fine running in the background when I am flying. But then again I have plenty of memory (8 gig). So if your pushing things with the minimal memory then that could be why.Everything counts when it comes to running FSX and the NGX. If your system is not balanced the slowest component is going to hold you back. CPU, GPU, Memory and Hard drive all play a role in performance and they are all important.
