January 27, 201214 yr X-plane 10 bought it got potential in it but it will take couple years for that to materialize, and if you like to fly outside of big cites the VFR is decent compared to FSX. Each X plane and FSX both have their advantages and disadvantages. X-plane install without needing 10 hours of tweaking to get it working on my computer
January 27, 201214 yr Author Based on the products they are selling on their website http://www.laminarresearch.com/ I would agree they dont have the time to update web pages.2006 was a very good year... why not hang onto it for a while? :(You might be surprised but aerosoft is doing exactly this in their german forum. That's good to know - I'll have to have a look. My German is a little rusty but I'll see what I can do. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
January 27, 201214 yr aerosoft DOES and MUST develop for XPX. not because they love xplane (they pretty much denounced xplane until XPX's release) but because they have no alternative after the FLIGHT fiasco. There is no doubt XPX will benefit from FLIGHT's going in a different direction. xplane's community will grow as fast as it never has. And while PMDG's support could be helpful, XPX is not dependent on PMDG. PMDG's lack presents opportunities for other developers, like Carenado, JRollon's CRJ and www.ixeg.net, to name but a few. the question is: can the small, talented but highly overworked Laminar team fix the most annoying bugs and add much needed missing features in a timely fashion, before this strong tailwind that has lifted them up into flight levels they have never experienced before and which they picked up merely by chance, i.e. by Microsoft's disappointing FLIGHT announcement, before this tailwind calms down and turns into a major head wind. I hope they will succeed. otherwise we all will suffer.once the aerosoft team has converted most of their huge amount of FSX airports to XPX later this year at the same quality as the FSX versions, you won't recognize XPX again. european XPX customers who bought the aerosoft edition got already a few extra airports that were missing from the US version.xplane can not afford to fail, they have to be successful this time around. yes it will take time.I look forward to each update and will continue to buy addons for XPX, something I would never ever have considered for xp7/8/9.Godspeed. January 27, 201214 yr I look forward to each update and will continue to buy addons for XPX, something I would never ever have considered for xp7/8/9. Godspeed. Actually you are missing out on some excellent payware for XP9.7 in terms of both scenery and aircraft in a stable multi-platform sim environment. For the time being any reviews I work on with regard to XP will be under v9.7 until XPX matures. I like what I have seen/flown with regard to the demo and it scales well to moderate hardware; however, I wouldn't consider it a fair review given the current beta state of affairs.**edit**Aerosoft's involvement is awesome....the forthcoming ATR72-500 is looking very special indeed...and it better be released for both 9.7/XPX! January 27, 201214 yr I enjoy both sims, for different reasons, and will continue to fly both. BUT, I can see the points of the disappointed posters. I can understand frustration paying eighty bones to get basically a work in progress. It has unlimited potential, but will we really see this potential? Populated airports, cities with buildings, seasonal textures, etc? My minor irritations right now are the barren airports, lack of seasonal textures, the dated UI, the airport taxi lights at night being far too bright (shouldn't this be an easy fix in an update?) Airports should be more difficult to spot at night, especially in urban areas IMO. A few other minor issues, but nothing major. I am enjoying the sim though! It IS indeed a weird transition going from FSX to X10, just because of expectations. But again, I do understand the pain of some paying for an uncompleted work in progress. I can see both points.Do Laminar deisgners post on these forums? It'd be interesting to hear thoughts from the team on what the future holds.Bob
January 27, 201214 yr @Bobhere are a couple links. This is the way Xplane works. I guess it is very different from what many are used to. I personally really enjoy this way of doing things, and I really hope the UI stays dated as you put it.An example I can give just posted on these forums today. There were issues of the manifold pressure not being accurate being voiced by a couple RL pilots. One of them spent some time in contact with Austin (Janov I think) and this problem has now been resolved in the newest beta (hopefully), so this way of doing things does work.Anyways the developers were here commenting but I think most appear to have left to spend more constructive time elsewhere. Though I would guess they peruse thru the forums here from time to time. I could go on but those are some of my thoughts.http://developer.x-plane.com/ http://wiki.x-plane.com/At the Wiki click the "all pages" link to browse a large amount of info.

January 27, 201214 yr I've made my decision with my wallet. Ooops but the OP writing about diplomacy....I think many FSX users have written what they'd like to have in XP and some XPers who shall remain nameless come stomping in with "but that stuff doesnt' matter, XP has this this, and this!"And this is where the Star Trek Double Facepalm pic comes in... January 29, 201214 yr (SNR=Signal-to-Noise-Ratio)Hi TedG,you've been looking at the "waterfall" in DW and or SC lately? :smile:I need my DW fix at least 3 times per week.Oh, the OP was spot on. As you can tell by some of the responces, the "lift" might just be too heavy for some. Edited January 29, 201214 yr by eSimmer Alex Cadle
January 29, 201214 yr you've been looking at the "waterfall" in DW and or SC lately? :(Haha I presume you are referring to "Dangerous Waters"? Beyond enjoying the "Conn...Sonar....Sonar....Conn" exchanges in various Tom Clancy, David Poyer, Pat Robinson, and Larry Bond books ( :( ) I restrict myself to the simplicity of heavily modded Silent Hunter III.By education and experience I am a PMEL (metrology) tech and electronics field engineer.....the former of which I am actually returning to over the next 8 weeks.....hence my reference. Not that it has anything to do with this thread.....but nice to see the conversation turn more productive and friendly with more signal....less noise! As we are all here because we share a passion for flight sims I find it more productive to discuss where XP complements FSX and vice-versa. And as the OP suggests part of the driving force behind XP gaining more recognition as a "valid" simulator among FSX pilots will be the 3rd party developer recognition of the wants/needs of that particular segment of the sim population and overall education of what X-Plane has to offer.Way too philosophical for a Sunday morning! January 29, 201214 yr Ok, FSX is more dan 5 years old, but my 'maxed out' version (FEX, UTX ,GEX, iFly B737 NG, some payware general aviation planes, extra scenery, FSrealWX weather, Saitek yoke, pedals and throtlles ...) for me is still more enjoyable and realistic in many ways.I fly the demo version of XP10 frequently, it's a great simulator like FSX, with of course newer technology, it has lots of potential and can grow until it will rival FSX in every aspect and CAN surpass FSX in many aspects of the Flight Dynamics.I am glad FSX has a serious rival because it seems at this moment that Microsoft let the more serious FS community drop for the coming Microsoft Flight 'game?'I am not a real world pilot but i fly Flight Simulator since the dark middleages of FS 2.I will never say XP 'sucks' or is a 'bad simulator' or 'i am ashamed to use it' or 'it fly's like a brick', like i read sometimes in X-Plane forums about FSX ... although i wait to buy it until it becomes more 'real':At this moment piloting the Beech Baron 58 or Cessna 172 i have the feeling to be in a roller coaster when there is a little wind or turbulence. This is of course very challenging and fun to land but according to a friend of mine who is a Cessna 182 pilot, not very realistic. He claims that the FSX Cessna 172 enhanced with the RealAir flight dynamics feels in general more realistic than the XP default c172, except maybe for stalling. The day i have the feeling that the Beech Baron 58 in XP10 has flight dynamics that equal those of my Carenado Baron in FSX and the world looks more 'real' i buy the program to use it beside FSX. .I will download the XP 10.04 Beta 1 now to experience the enhancements and i am sure i will enjoy it but i always return to FSX where the aircraft, world and sky feel still more 'plausible' for me at this moment.Aren't we lucky people with 2 great flight simulators ! Yes that DW. I've got SH-3,4,5 all modded to the max. As the "great" Rodney King would say, "can't we all just, just "git" along"?Like I posted awhile back, I've had X-Plane since the name was was just X-Plane, and more "flight simulators" than you've got sticks to shake at.My choices aren't restricted: I sim whichever one interests me at "that" point.Have fun with your job.
