Give me 1 hour 17 minutes till the download completes then I can go for a test flight! ;)

The screenshots look better than that of the 737 EVO I reviewed for AVSIM!

Don't stress the man. Ok, lets do. :pardon: Since the screens on the Wilco page are rather small, maybe some user made ones can help. I don't expect stellar optics, but, you know, a bit of 3D work and sharp textures on the text.

I also wonder about the FMC details. If Feelthere was involved (which is NOT the case), I wouldn't worry much since those guys can handle the avionics and things, as seen on the E-Jets for example. But it's pure Wilco, so I don't know.

sorry Aaron didnt mean to come over as rude...

the fact that feelthere is not involved is whats making me not sure

But those are the ones that are incomplete/ Like crossing altitude changes.

I always respect people here on avsim buying newly released add-ons and posting quick reviews. So I deciced this time, I'll take the plunge and just bought it.................

First of all, let me start by saying that I'm slowly becoming an old fart, having simm'd since FS3 I believe (early 90's). I've been yearning for a good CRJ forever, so when I just learned about the release I thought what the heck....

I'm not a professional reviewer, just a lowly private pilot and FS addict, and have only done one flight, so here it goes:

Exterior model:

- pilots move around, nice animation (I personally like that, although not that important)

- expecially the nose not up to todays standards, compared to other similarly priced add-ons

- simple texturing, not sure how else to describe it, just looks very plain or blah

Interior VC:

- pretty descent texturing, but fairly small fonts on my 25" (autopilot is probably the worst regarding fonts)

- fantastic FPS

- Autopilot & DCP: almost impossible to use in VC, clickspots way too small and V-speeds I can only set in 2-D popup; found out first officer DCP a bit easier to use but I still use 2-D popup for accuracy

- many cockpit tool tips missing (I happen to like those as my eyes get older)

- no seat belt/no smoking sounds

- many switches on overhead have not click sounds at all

- turning on "display lighting" makes the autopilot almost completely black (this is during dawn, maybe it'll be better at night - will test later)

- night lighting expecially on autopilot just makes the AP buttons really orange, the lettering can't really be read

- gauge refresh rate super smooth

Sounds:

- I don't get any V-speed callouts

- engine sounds almost identical to the original release in 2002 or whenever it was

- I couldnt hear flaps or gear sounds (my bad, gear sounds work just fine), may have to check my settings though - it also may be very quite in the CRJ, and not the developers fault

- GPWS callouts were existing during final approach and landing

FMC:

- also some font issues

- at first glance pretty comprehensive, will have to do more testing

- importing FS default planner flightplan worked without a hitch

FDE:

- took off like a rocket (only tested the 700 so far)

- also climbs like a rocket - not sure if this is 700 specific, I'm more familiar with the -200 but I only had 3 hours on formerly Comair's CRJ FTD (right now I'm climbing at 72,000 gross weight at 3000 fpm and I get an overspeed warning)

- felt very much like the default CRJ - but I'll do more testing

- upon landing the nose gear slammed down instantly despite "greaser" landing

Documentation:

- needs some performance charts, I have no idea what trim settings, weights, flaps, speeds are required for takeoff/landing

Misc:

The video that comes with the purchase looks like it's shot in 16 bit?! Not sure if my video settings need to be changed but I've seen better quality youtube videos

I don't want to come accross like I'm complaining, I knew what I was getting myself into - buying an add-on so soon after initial release, but my first impressions are underwhelming to say the least.

I'll do some more testing and report back, maybe a few beers will make her look and feel prettier.........

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks, Pete. Hoping it gets better though. If you find the time, maybe post some screenshots.

Cant even get a flight plan loaded in the FMC. CTD buffer overrun when executing. My gosh, I should no better than to buy a beta developement

my pleasure, or not........

I was afraid you would ask for screenies, unfortunately that's my weak spot.......What's the default keystroke for taking screen shots in FSX again? Here's a link to a fellow German chap that posted some shots, maybe the helps until I figured out how to take/upload some myself ;-) http://forum.flightm.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=45970

BTW, she does get prettier after the third beer!!

Cheers,

Pete
