Disrespectful to ACES?

What FSX needed was some loving to iron out the bugs (e.g. memory leaks, fix the terrain textures, etc..) and some code optimization. Other than that it is pretty decent overall.
Good point, but I'm afraid that if MS did indeed release a "fixed" version of FSX and call it FSXI, there would still be a lot people complaining how there is nothing new to it.

I completely disagree. What FSX needed was some loving to iron out the bugs (e.g. memory leaks, fix the terrain textures, etc..) and some code optimization. Other than that it is pretty decent overall. It really needed a new flight model but at this point I have another sim that is decades ahead of its time for that.Best regards,Robin.
Feel free to. Less features = less bugs, less things to fix, less service packs to make, more time to spend on FS 11.

What type logic are you using? Are you saying the MS should have given us less features/benefits in FSX (making it FS98), so that they could develop FS11 to be on par with FSX in terms of features/benefits..... FSX doesnt have the many bugs .. guys, its your addons that give you problems with FSX. FSX was the best to date in terms of features/benefits.

No, I'm saying that less NEW features/changes compared to FS2004 should have been implemented. Making it FS98? I'm not a complete ldiot. My logic is that less is sometimes more = Make fewer but better improvements instead of many lesser improvements. That could also reduce the possibility of bugs and errors.I agrree that with FSX SP2 it is a very fine simulator - the best ever IMHO.

There are at least 8 former Aces devs working on Flight. 8 of the best actually.Fred.
Alright, I did some research and have their names. There were 4 left on the payroll to 'clean up' the FS franchise and help Lockheed get started. For Flight there WERE 8, of which 2 have apparently already left (one to Lockheed) and one was and is just a marketing guy who came late to the 'game'.So effectively it looks like there are now 5 of them who worked on FSX, SOME of those worked on previous releases. That is still very far away from 1/3 of a team of 50 as Jason claims. But then again, maybe there are a few more hiding? :-)Also, not really important, just wanted to acknowledge that my quip about 4 total was a joke, but with some subtance behind it ;-)

... and the man's Blog

Does Flight meet the criteria MS has posted in their various carefully crafted statements. Even if one puts the most pessimistic spin on what was so carefully wordsmithed, in reality Flight comes out a very pale shadow of even that.
Without "wordsmithing", what exactly did Microsoft say it would provide and didn't?

Train Simulator 2 and FS11 - yet. ;)

And let me make it clear. IF Microsoft had been HONEST in the first place and admitted what they were building was a severely crippled version of FSX focused on bringing the much more profitable gamer crowd into the mix no one would fault them for that. Microsoft is in business to make a profit and it is free to do so as it sees fit. Microsoft doesn't OWE us a new product for flight simulation. However, what they OWE us is the TRUTH.
Show me where my gourmet dinner vice rutubaga analogy implied what you seem to believe it did?
You said:"MS said we were going to get a gourmet dinner."On Aug 17th 2010 1:00AM - JC Fletcher wrote:"Microsoft Flight' announced ... minus the 'Simulator'Tucked away within the press release for Age of Empires Online was the announcement of a new entry in a really long-lived Microsoft game series: Microsoft Flight Simulator. The latest Windows-exclusive title, now called simply Microsoft Flight, "will bring a new perspective to the long-standing genre," according to the press release, "welcoming everyone, including long-time fans, to experience the magic of flight."There are no details beyond that, and the listed website is not live at the moment. However, the "welcoming everyone" language combined with the symbolic omission of the word "simulator" gives us an idea of what to expect: a more game-like, streamlined experience."-----Mike T and you thought to know - "will bring a new perspective to the long-standing genre" - would be the further development of FSX (---> FSXI etc.).FSXI = "gourmet dinner".Then you said:- "What we got is a half-baked rutabaga"."half-baked rutabaga" = FLIGHT.But JC Fletcher wrote back in 2010: - "gives us an idea of what to expect: a more game-like, streamlined experience."Mike T said: - "However, what they OWE us is the TRUTH."And the TRUTH is still: "a more game-like, streamlined experience."You didn't see the liver in the gourmet dinner! :(

+1(i've deleted my post as it made no sense when i read it in the context of the thread. Was probably replying to some random comment on page 2. It must be getting late. So here's my first '+1' comment, not directed at anything in particular, but if you've said something clever in the last two pages or so it's yours to keep).

This thread is dicussing Flight. Anyway, where did Microsoft say it would provide Train Simulator 2 and FS11?

FS11 (& TS2): Read Phil Taylors MSDN blog. For TS2 go to youtube and watch the demo showcased at The National Train Show.

Microsoft never said they would provide either.

Yea, MS just puts programs together for nothing like: "Lets program a train sim, show it to people, publicly talk about it, and then never provide it. If you believe that then I have some great waterfront property to sell you.

Can you clarify what you are trying to say?In reality, companies often start to develop a project, show it people, publicly talk about it, get marketing feedback, review it, and then cancel it if they no longer think itr's viable. They never say that they will ever provide it. Flight could have been cancelled at any time during its development, just like Train Simulator 2 and FS11. There was never any commitment to provide them.
