... and also that 73.63456 % of all statistics are made up on the spot.
There's six. I'm looking forward to it as well.
Make that seven. FLIGHT has great potential but, unfortunately, I have no idea what the developers are thinking. And I am a wee bit concerned about how much it might all cost. Will have to be selective I guess.

Im also positive to MS Flight, could there be as much as 10 non-paid enthusiasts here? The plane without the cockpit was a setback though, almost had a a really bad dude-reaction to that one :\I think MS was disrespectfull to Aces when they axed them on short notice a few years ago. Train Simulator was also canceled.Turn 10 producer of Forza Motorsport car simulator had to implement kinect wave-with-hands casual controls. But the person from the team that was interviewed didnt seem very pleased allthough he did his job to explain the feature.I guess Aces team members maybe could feel the same way. If youve been working on "as real as it gets" then "its in the game" isnt what you really want maybe. Then again getting to work with real world aviation manufacturers and making a virtual world could be whats more important. If MS Flight catches and a lot of new people become casual pc pilots, then maybe enough of those demand more serious ways of flying that MS will see it profitable to include content for serious simmers (worldwide scenery / airliner career / aircraft with all systems).-

Make that seven.
Nope! make it eight...I believe most of the functionality will be there from the start, however may not be available to the simmer without paying for the privilege...

a really bad dude-reaction? What - it was like a shrewd politician with crap strategic planning, a bad amphetamine habit and delusions of grandeur? No, but seriously...I can see what MS are doing with that, and it's not such a bad idea. Personally I think their pricing is a bit off, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a price drop with a few weeks for the VC-less P51 OR a sudden upgrade to a full VC.The younger crowd do want go-fast warplanes, and the younger crowd do prefer out-of-cockpit views. Heck I spend HOURS panning around Spitfires and pretty sunrises! The out-of-cockpit view provides a point of similarity to other console-based games, but other aircraft WITH VCs can then lead you onto more detailed and realistic experiences. As for the pricing - I don't have an Xbox so I can't directly translate MS-points or whatever, so it's hard to say initially whether 600 zorkmids or whatever is correct. My gut feeling is that $20-equivalent is spot on for the Hawaii scenery. My gut feeling is that the planes are too pricey at launch, but the whole point of a store is market forces - if it doesn't sell at $20 you can lower it and recoup costs by getting more sales - Capitalism 101, right?
I think MS was disrespectfull to Aces when they axed them on short notice a few years ago. Train Simulator was also canceled.
I work in architecture, and I can tell you this is business as usual. It happens so frequently we even have a term for it - the DCM - Don't Come Monday. It's Friday afternoon, you're already drinking that first beer in your head, and the Directory walks past, taps your desk and asks you into their office. There's another 6 of your colleagues there already and the Director says... "Economic down turn.... construction slowing.... we didn't get the Smith project.... we'll have to let a few of you go... clear your desks .... we won't need you Monday."All creative industries have it, whether you write software, draw advertising or design buildings. I've had it happen 2 times so far in 20 years of my career, and each time it feels like Chuck Norris kicked you in the gut... but... you move on.Getting behind Flight is the best way of honoring what the Aces team - and all the people who came before that, right back to Bruce Artwick - is to keep the passion alive!I can't wait to try out Flight!

As for the a really bad dude-reaction I was thinking about the "a really bad dude gets the news about flight" youtube video, he's almost as passionate as BillG argumenting about windows 95 being better than os/2... Whatever... Im 37 im not MS "target audience" but come on, no cockpit... Landing a fast taildragger and bleeding off speed with case-cam it would be like landing a radio-controlled airplane too hard in the wrong way.Sympathy for DCM's everywhere :)-

Ha! Posted at the same time - I'll take number 9!
Everyone has different expectations from Flight, but the way things are, very few people will have nothing to complain about
I'm getting the opportunity to try something for free - it's not going to make my other aviation programs go away on my computer - I'll be one of the few who have nothing to complain about.
so whats diferent from buying airports and planes for FSX to make it look and feel better than what we are goin to do with flight?
Not much. But, I'm hoping, as some testers have hinted, that Flight will give me some substantial increases in framerates and better secenery quality.Okay, so am I #10 or 11 for giving Flight a chance? (and not being a spokesperson for Josh)

There are probably hundreds of thousands of you so don't sweat it...

Your expertise this time was to improve the simulation and/or graphics engine (as allegedly you have done).
Not only improve.Quote: - "Microsoft Flight is a new approach to a beloved franchise. It is a completely separate product from FSX,"
Flight's devs are almost all ex Aces guys !!!!
Quote: - "The team behind Microsoft Flight consists of roughly 50 people, including a mix of professional pilots, 40% of which worked on the previous team."And people still think:Professional pilots + "Aces Team" (50 people) x 3 year = arcade game?
so whats diferent from buying airports and planes for FSX to make it look and feel better than what we are goin to do with flight?
If you do this, you get a good looking simulator. If you go with Flight you get a good looking game, with a lot of simulator functionality removed.
Quote Developer (Microsoft Studios): -"The starter pack is free to play and includes the Icon A5 and the Big Island of Hawaii."A "good looking simulator" (FSX + addons) is expensive (not free). If Microsoft Studios succeed, they will - "improve the game and add more of what users want. It also allows for quicker response to user requests, fixes and general improvements. On top of that, integration with the Microsoft Flight website offers a more direct link between team and users."Again : - Flight is a new approach!!! (Flight is not a finished product).Quote: - "I know many of my more hardcore friends will be pretty sore about not being able to fly anywhere they please, but given time and a substantial community the Flight world could develop into an even more elaborate and activity dense world than any Microsoft flight game before it."Quote: - "In Microsoft Flight we’re promised realistic foliage, terrain and landmarks designed on actual locations around the world, as well as region-specific weather patterns.""Locations around the world" = "Hawaiian-world"?
FLIGHT has great potential but, unfortunately, I have no idea what the developers are thinking.
MS knows.
Flight definitely has the potential to replace FSX . . . IF the Team is allowed to take Flight to that level.
Why not?Quote: -"The game is built on an improved legacy engine, for large scale scenery support."Meaning a "legacy engine" from an old arcade game (without ATC, ILS, globe, etc.)??
Someone googling MSFlight would get the impression that the current community doesn't want anyone new
Yes, you're right. I still got my subLOGIC Flight Simulator for Commodore 64. So what?
MS cannot expect us to blindly invest good money into purchasing DLC when we do not know where the game is going. Time to end the secret squirrel stuff.
A short time left .....Nail%20Biting.gifBut one example:John Venema (ORBX) stated:"We will no longer pre-announce any products in development. We will not announce release dates at all.We won't respond to any 'when will XXXX be released' posts at allOrbx is fully funded by its shareholders and company owners/directors."Why "the secret squirrel stuff"? Customer service?
FSX never did anything really, really well.
Again John Venema (ORBX): -"As for making our own engine? Been there, done that, talked to a bunch of suppliers. Again, nothing comes close to the FSX core code, it's that good. There is a reason why code from 26 years ago was retained. It would cost us about $30 million to start from scratch, maybe more. Better to just make content for an engine that is working and being developed forward."Disagree? :(
Quote Developer (Microsoft Studios): -"The starter pack is free to play and includes the Icon A5 and the Big Island of Hawaii."A "good looking simulator" (FSX + addons) is expensive (not free). If Microsoft Studios succeed, they will - "improve the game and add more of what users want. Flight could be viewed as a demo. It is free, but it is no more than a demo for many other games.Flight is a new approach in trying to fleece people, but there is no precedent to base the rest of the statements on. Namely that Flight will be continually improved and that it is not a finished product. For all you know, it is a finished product, just as FSX was on release and it will take 6+ months to come out with fixes and the so called "improvements". In the meantime, there will be new DLC for sure, but there is no reason to think that the game is not already complete. All MS has to do is make more scenery, planes, challenges and missions. If this all sells as they expect, they will have no reason to add any new features to Flight. If MS had thought that the FSX features missing from Flight would cost them money, they would have included them from day one. To think that if Flight succeeds they will spend that money to put new features in for the simulation enthusiasts is a fallacy. Why would they if they already have a winning combination? Also, Flight is not an MMORPG, with a monthly subscription, so money will only come in from DLC and the price of the DLC will have to pay for the DLC. Maintenance of the code and making improvements is cost effective only if MS can sell more or higher priced DLC.What's funny is that people don't realize that a brand new game that takes 2 years to make and sells for around $50 and sells in sufficient numbers can be a success. So MS may just say, ok we made $35 from more people than we would have made from FSXI, we put out another DLC, of which far less will be sold than of Hawaii and call it a game well done.
