February 8, 201214 yr Hello AllAs some of you may be all too aware of, a lot of the UK is now covered in snow. However, for the life of me, I can't get this to show up in FSX.I'm currently running with UTX, GEX and ASE for the weather. Are there any settings within these addons that can 'trigger' the displaying of snow covered grounds textures, or is it for instance, the fact that the geographical position of the UK versus the time of year is preventing FSX from doing so?I seem to remember that when I used FS9 with GE Pro and AS, if it snowed in the UK, I would see this reflected in the sim.Any ideas much appreciatedGary
February 8, 201214 yr As I understand it...By default FS will not use the "hard winter" (i.e. snow covered) textures for the UK in winter. It will only load them if the weather in the sim is actually snowing.I'm not too far from you, and it only snowed here overnight from Saturday to Sunday. There's still a covering of snow on the ground but if I use real weather via ASE or REX it will not give me snow covered terrain because of the above - FS doesn't know that it was snowing a few days ago and that the ground is still covered in snow. It sees that the current weather is not snowing and so it just goes with the default winter textures instead of the hard winter ones.If you want to see snow on the ground I'd say your best bet would be to load the sim and set the weather theme to "winter wonderland" or something similar. Let it load the sim with the snow covered textures, and then once in the sim you can start ASE and let it load the current real weather. Nick
February 8, 201214 yr I wouldn't be too hasty to add snow to the UK, Gary. If we have more than a centimetre, the entire country grinds to a halt. You may find that most of the airports are closed until it melts :( Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester

Once while walking from the City to Waterloo (a 25 minute walk) it started snowing and finished 5 minutes before I walked into the station. Only to find "all" the trains had been cancelled due to snow!vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
February 8, 201214 yr Keep burning fossile fuels at the current rate speeding up global warming and thus increase the melting of the polar ice caps. This will cause the freshwater density in the Atlantic ocean to increase thus shutting down the Gulf Stream thrusting Europe into an ice age. Lotsa snow! February 8, 201214 yr They cancelled a thrid of all departures from Heathrow last week before a single flake of snow actually fellIAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

February 9, 201214 yr Author If you want to see snow on the ground I'd say your best bet would be to load the sim and set the weather theme to "winter wonderland" or something similar. Let it load the sim with the snow covered textures, and then once in the sim you can start ASE and let it load the current real weather.Just out of interest, I found the most reliable way to ensure that I got to see snow on the ground was to use ASE's Historical option with the time/date set to midnight on Saturday (5th). Result - loads of snow.RegardsGary
February 9, 201214 yr Snow cancelled.Local council cannot afford it.We now return to the regular British schedule of dull grey sky and possible freezing rain.Humbug. AVSIM Staff ReviewerBush Is Good!
February 12, 201214 yr I created an addon season bgl file which uses the snow coverage data from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center. Coverage is the entire northern hemisphere using data from 2012 Feb 08. When using this addon, the snow coverage will be used from 1-29 Feb, then revert to default on 1 Mar (until next year, unless you remember to delete it!)http://www.files.com/set/4f3700de8897dscott s..
