Bug and issues reporting - what mechanisms will be in place?

Featured Replies

I realise that we will most likely be reporting bugs and issues with Flight here in these forums, but I am wondering if Microsoft will have any specific and robust mechanism in place for reporting these things? In my experience this has always been a weak point with Microsoft.I don't really play that many games, but in recent times I have been incredibly impressed with the developers of the new FPS game Hard Reset. There, on the Steam forums there is direct contact with the developers and they have already brought out several patches even for incredibly rare and obscure bugs. For Flight though, I think it might be different this time around than it was with FSX. Back then we had direct contact with developers who were listening and interacting in real time, but I fear that with Flight, Microsoft may be effectively unapproachable for the average user.I'm sure after a couple of days playing with Flight I will have found issues, and I'd be concerned about having an effective way to report them and to know those reports were being read.

The devs already mentioned about continuing bug reporting and updates after official release. So I assume there will be a support forum of some kind just for that matter. The automatic update feature in GFWL makes frequent update much easier.

I imagine it it not differ much from the qay the average user reports bugs in other Microsoft applications - taking account of the fact that Flight will be free.

There will be no official Flight forum so the bug report will be simply non existent. There will be a generic Live forum, maybe someone over there will kindly post bugs but I am pretty sure they will be ignored by MS.-

So it sounds like it will work like Steam does, except even Steam does better since there is a forum for every game. I fear you are right though and MS's history is not particularly re-assuring in this regard. They never even fixed the aileron animations in the Maule, despite two service packs.

Did you just make that up ?Not true.Fred.

FSX never got fully fixed because it was a) too big and 2. they ran out of time. So we put up with bugs that we would never tolerate in a normal commercial release. This is 2012. When you buy an Xbox game, it just works. That's what consumers expect. Given the mass-market aspirations of flight, I'm pretty sure MS will aim to get it working pretty smoothly.

Games are full of bugs even in ~2012~ lol if not more so now than ever thanks to the relative ease of patching via the internet. This is especially true for PC titles because the hardware is so varied.

That is a huge "biggie" for me. I bet that many FSX users didn't even ever know about SP1 and SP2.

Hey, i recently bought cliffs of dover so i definitely get that! But a bug-riddled program that might work in a few years is not the experience that Microsoft will want to sell to non-enthusiast consumer in the windows live marketplace. So i'm speculating that the code released on the 29th will be much more stable and playable than what Aces gave us in 2006.

Absolutely, with at least one really advanced element!Kind regards,

What information form the basis for your claim?Quote: -"The Live marketplace allows for constant content flow and users that opt-in to share data, allow the team to react to user behaviors to improve the game and add more of what users want. It also allows for quicker response to user requests, fixes and general improvements. On top of that, integration with the Microsoft Flight® website offers a more direct link between team and users."

Oh yeah, then why my Skyrim game has still flying elephants? :sad:In my opinion games are just as buggy as they were before.

There was a time when PC games were released with a minor bug or two. When there were no patches at all. Then developers realized that people still buy the games after the previous release had dozens of bugs and now there can be hundreds of bugs in some games on release.Just going by how MS started promoting Flight in print many months ago and then abruptly stopped and how long the beta lasted I am pretty sure the first thing beta testers will post about is how hundreds of bugs they reported have not been fixed.Flight seems to be behind schedule by about 4-5 months and is being rushed out the door, just like many other PC games nowadays.
