n4gix, I noticed that your sig shows you are running a GTX550ti. How do you like? Have you done any overclocking with it?? I have a GTX 460 that is overclocked probably higher than it should be and I was checking out the 550 ti.
I like the GTX550ti a lot just as it is. I've not done anything to it at all. It's running strictly "out of the box" so to speak.

Thanks! I just put it on my wish list :)
Just wondering... now that we know the next Flight Sim isn't going to tax anyones systems, is anyone else going to bother upgrading in the next few years?
I will have my current system (i7 2700K) for at least five years just as all my previous systems, but then again I'm not one of those who loose sleep because I can't run every slider at max. I run my PCs until they die by themselves.

If a piece of harware is released that unequivalently improves the performance of FSX and or FS2004. Then yes I will upgrade. if I want to play flight I'll do it on a laptop of todays standard.

Agreed that it is the addons that kill performance. With no addons FSX probably performs as well as Flight with no addons. Check out the what Microsoft calls the minimum requirements for each:FSX Minimum Requirements:

  • CPU: 1.0 GHz
  • GPU: 32MB DirectX 9 compatible
  • HD: 14 GB Hard Drive space
  • OS: WinXP SP2
  • RAM: 256MB

Flight Minimum Requirements:

  • CPU: Dual Core 2.0 GHz
  • GPU: 256 MB card capable of shader 3.0 (DX 9.0c compliant)
  • HD: 10 GB Hard Drive space
  • OS: WinXP SP3
  • RAM: 2.0GB

To get flyable FPS, you would likely have to set most of the graphic settings to Low if your PC only meets the Minimum Requirements.

Home Airfield: KHIE

There were a couple beta testers using laptops with integrated graphics in flight, they also though it looked good (tho they only used res aroudn 1280x720).The hallmark of a good engine, is the ability to run well at low settings, and look great at high. Batman Arkham City was a good testament to this, ran well on integrated graphics.

On the other hand, to run on max, you've gotta have at least a GTX560ti or 570......

Yes, quite true. The minimum specs are usually a joke. With a 1GHZ single processor all the sliders in FSX would have to be to the "left", and it would not be pretty.I was holding off on an upgrade from my "old" [email protected] and 8800GTS to see how multi-threaded Flight would be, but now am sticking to original plan of just waiting for Ivy Bridge and Kepler.

i run a 6870 (competitor to GTX560) and it ran it on max with no stutters. it's about a $170 card with rebates.i previously used a 5770 (about $90 these days), and it would handle max with a few stutters, and would handle mostly medium with a few max just fine.

I have a very close friend with Flight and a 6870.... He doesn't run it on MAX... But he does on high.... On max he gets around 35FPS.

Well with a pentium 1 you'd be lucky to get 5 fps, lol, more to a PC than just a graphics card. That said mine is clocked slightly, should only be like 5-10% difference tho.my 5770 managed max settings fine with a few stutters. it was playable, but i like the smoothness of the 6870. Either way, it looks great on medium.you don't need a $700 in a 2500K and a GTX580 to get good FPS in fight :(

Unless you have true proof of this, all oyur are saying is based purely on your "opinion" of FPS.
And why do i care what you think.............?
HelloBecause he is trying to have a discussion with you. That's usually why we use forums, we care what you think and so we engage in conversation with you.If we didn't no one would respond to your posts, are you starting to get how it all works now?
