March 3, 201214 yr OK, so I've seen a number of people post they have no true overcast (more like 90% broken instead) with AS2012, but I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong here...Leaving KBOS, 3/3/2012, 10A local time, reported 400BKN 700OVC. Seemed alright (the usual 90% broken instead), but on the climbout, around 10K,I get the attached weather depiction. The METAR is reporting 200 overcast, I'm only (30?NM max) from Boston, and the weather system that is generating the low ceilings and rain spreads for miles and miles around. Certainly there should be no ground showing at all with the real world weather in place, and definitely not this much...Any thougts?8GB RAM, i7 975, 1GB GeForce GTS 240 video card (GTX 850 coming Monday, but this isn't a frame-rate issue).TIA for thoughts on how to fix...
March 3, 201214 yr Yup, AS2012's overcast doesn't work. Period. Maybe it's being addressed, but I don't know.James
March 4, 201214 yr i've seen some improvement since upping to fsuipc 4.80the break in the overcast still happens occaisionally but not as frequently as before and i've had a couple great full-overcast transitions. maybe it's just luck about the particular arrangement of stations and/or weather conditions or something.the hole in the sky still happens frequently enough to be annoying though.peter you might want to submit a support ticket with the details to reproduce it. i sent a few such cases in and damian seemed to say it would be useful in solving the issue. i dunno what's been going on since, been kinda quiet from the devs!cheers-andy crosby
March 5, 201214 yr Yup, AS2012's overcast doesn't work. Period. Maybe it's being addressed, but I don't know.JamesSorry, I don't know what you're talking about - they do work. By using MAX_CLOUD_COVERAGE=12 and setting Maximum Cloud Layers to 20, I get very accurate and massive overcasts. Caio Belmock Mascarenhas de Campos
March 5, 201214 yr Where do you make this changes? in FSX.cfg File?THKS Ahmet Sanal "Time you enjoyed wasting, was not wasted"
March 5, 201214 yr Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about - they do work. By using MAX_CLOUD_COVERAGE=12 and setting Maximum Cloud Layers to 20, I get very accurate and massive overcasts.Sorry, I have to disagree. Big, gigantic, wide open areas of clear sky when the WX reports solid overcast. Seen it many times. And, like you, I also use 12 and 20. James
March 5, 201214 yr what I find most frustrating is whilst on long final the airport is clearly visible despite the metar showing OC and as I get closer the weather morphs, vis drops and the airport disappears at the OM, far from realistic!I have not seen a solid overcast in 2012 hence the reason I am back on ASE, the support round here from the devs is also very disappointing although they are quick to moderate any negative comments
March 6, 201214 yr I have not seen a solid overcast in 2012 hence the reason I am back on ASE, the support round here from the devs is also very disappointing although they are quick to moderate any negative commentsIt would be helpful to at least get an update regarding this issue, or a kind of acknowledgment. For me as a REX and ASE user AS2012 was a waste of money so far.
March 6, 201214 yr That's sad to learn of.I don't know if it's possible that the problem is hardware-related; I can't remember tweaking anything else but CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY and Maximum Layers. Where do you make this changes? in FSX.cfg File?THKSCLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12 (not "MAX_CLOUD_COVERAGE" - forget about it) you put into [Weather] section in fsx.cfg. But I just realized I actually use "CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8" and still have excellent overcasts.Maximum Cloud Layers you find in Wx Options->Cloud Option in AS2012.I hope you guys solve that some day - with or without assistance from HiFi. March 7, 201214 yr peter you might want to submit a support ticket with the details to reproduce it. i sent a few such cases in and damian seemed to say it would be useful in solving the issue. i dunno what's been going on since, been kinda quiet from the devs!Interesting, I thought that was the job of beta testers who usually get a free copy of the software for their efforts. To me, its just no longer a wise thing to purchase software until Service Pack "5" is released, and all the outstanding issues are resolved. But, new versions come out before old problems are resolved, and there should be consumer laws in place to prevent such things, but as humans are never satisfied, software companies will get their money and make them beta test....not me. :-)Seems to me that beta tests are getting more and more useless.I dont post this to invite a debate, and I will not be checking this post for any responses. I just wanted to shed some perspective from a consumer standpoint. I truly would like to see HiFi Simulations succeed but not at the expense of frustrated simmers. Paul Racines
March 7, 201214 yr Changed to CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12 in FSX.cfg and Cloud Layers to 20 in AS2012 settings. Then went flying in Alaska snowstorm, AS2012 METAR > Vis less than 1/2 mi and low OVC. I hadgood snow depiction; however vis was beyond 1/2 mile and many holes in clouds (poor OVC depiction). Ken Ken Boardman
March 7, 201214 yr Hello gentlemen, the release of SP1 for AS2012 will help to address this issue. I've tested it and I am rather impressed with the descent overcast (despite the limitations of the weater engine) it is able to produce.
March 7, 201214 yr Any idea of a release date for SP1?
