March 4, 201214 yr Very well written and presented Ryan. There is a ton of depth to this tutorial and I will have to redo it later on. My visual approach with real weather worked out quite well for the first time although I did end up to the left of the runway and had to make my way back. My only problem is the HGS system which just seems to bother me more than help, so I just stowed it and landed visually. Thanks for your work on this. Mark CYYZ
March 4, 201214 yr I second Mark's comments. I had a fairly sucessful flight but it could be better.I used real weather as well, of course AS2012 gave me more than I wanted.... "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma

March 4, 201214 yr I completed the tutorial 4 hours ago and everything went very well (used AS2012 and Topcat). In fact had already done the circle to land 08 procedure two times flying for transavia virtual. I have flown around 1200 hours in PMDG NG and over 400 in NGX and really liked some of the tips in tutorial 2 .. really did not Knew about some. Thanks Ryan and all. March 4, 201214 yr For those of us that have AS2012, what Zulu time / date weather were you all usung to get the proper approach at the detination? Those shots with real weather look awesome! Thanks, Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
March 4, 201214 yr Absolutely outstanding tutorial Ryan. I always wondered what to do with all that weather data and I purchased TOPCAT this morning just to use with your tutorial. After flying with no weather, I launched another tutorial flight using AS2012 and had significant cloud cover and fog pretty much down to the runway. I had noticed that RWY 26 appeared to have glideslope information during the first visual flight so I set up for an autoland. I am sure all you experienced pilots know what happened next. Yes, I got fired as a PMDG 738 pilot because I landed about 60 feet to the left of runway 26 after destroying the lights, the antenna, and a whole lot of grass. Needless to say I turned my PMDG over to the maintenance team for a full airframe inspection.I learned a valuable lesson today in addtion to everything Ryan taught me. Read and understand the charts and all the quirks about the airport! What I failed to recognize is that when flying by IFR you can make a LLZ/DME approach from either west or east, both take you down the valley. Once in the valley, a final Visual Approach Procedure is required before landing. For both LLZ/DME approaches there exists a visual procedure for a rwy 8 and rwy 26 landing. Due to terrain in front of rwy 8, a straight-in landing is only possible at the east approach on rwy 26 (LLZ offset 5° from runway). The most difficult one is the west approach rwy 8 landing that requires two visual right turns at about 180° in the valley before landing. Landing on rwy 8 from either LLZ/DME approach is difficult because it is almost impossible to keep visual contact with the rwy during the right-hand circuit (in larger planes). NOTE: The LLZ/DME 26 is simulated as ILS/DME in FSX because you have glide slope available on some of the approach. Thanks again Ryan for all your hard work and hopefully I will get my NGX back from the maintenance team soon! March 4, 201214 yr Working the weekend over here in LA despite the 80 degree weather (the life of a public accountant). Can't wait to get home to fly this thing. Thanks Ryan! Brandon Burkley

Those shots with real weather look awesome! Thanks, Bruce.Commenting only for myself, I completed the flight today and posted after. I'd say a three hour period between 1200 and 1500 Eastern (US) if that's any help.It was raining in EHAM when I started.Gotta say, this was an excellent tutorial! March 4, 201214 yr I fully concur, Ryan. It's a real work of art.I have been flying around Oz since the NGX came out, so don't get over to europe much. There was so much going on in that tutorial (fantastic insights into the changes available in the route section of the FMC!), that I was literally brain dead by the time I was approaching LOWI, so I shut it down and will return tonight to finish it off.It' was also nice to know that I've been doing most things right, from c&d to take-off. I guess the training from AofA paid off too.I am now anxiously awaiting Bryan Yorkes work and then the NGX will be complete.Thanx for the great work, Ryan and PMDG!Frank Cooper
March 4, 201214 yr It was raining in EHAM when I started.Same here. And I flew pretty much during the same time period. Kevin Witt
