March 8, 201214 yr I've been in touch with the guy over at SOH who did the new textures for the JF Constellation VC. He says he has also re-textured the JF DC-3!However, JF have taken ownership of both the Constellation and DC-3 textures and will not allow him to distribute them. He doesn't know what their intentions are for these textures but he says they have asked him to do the JF DC-6 VC as well. Nick

Apart from the VC I think the rest of the plane is excellent. March 8, 201214 yr If anyone does like the sound of the Wrights - they were used in the (apparently) early Daks. I worked on three of them, in another life, and at least one was fitted with Wrights - could have been all three, and remember reading a brass plaque on the side of the radio rack, part of which proclaimed "Released from the US Air Force in June 1944". That was in 1968-9. I expect there's a small number still in service. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

March 8, 201214 yr Howard, as you said everything else about the JF DC-3 is pretty good, so I reckon if and when you can get your hands on those 'redux' VC textures mentioned above, you will be pretty surprised how much of a difference they could make. :( I remember when a russian guy re-done the VC textures for the FS9 version of the Feelthere A320, and they were strikingly better. All the trademark Feelthere weak spots in the VC, such as the blurry side window pillars etc had been transformed to crisp textures, and some nice wear added to the main panel in the VC. :( David. >> i7 2600k, 3.4Ghz, (3.8Ghz TurboBoost), 8GB DDR3 RAM, ATI HD 5770 1GB, Win 7 Home Premium 64bit. >> FSX, REX, GEX, UTX, Orbx FTX AU, NZ, US, FlyTampa, UK2000 Xtreme, PMDG, RealAir, MilViz, (some) Carenado, Flight 1, Simcheck "%20alt=

March 9, 201214 yr The MAAM DC-3 VC is not bad, for a FS9 product. It's my favorite prop job since I had my first flight in it and worked on it for 4 years in the late 50's. I never use the VC so I can't compare.Dave
March 9, 201214 yr I have been flying DC-3's in FS since about 1998 and have just about every DC-3 you can think of, including the JF version, and in my humble opinion, the MAAM product is the very best. However, for FSX, you really have to buy the very latest version from them either download or order it on disc and wait the few days for it to arrive. I had the FS9 version and then when I changed to FSX I downloaded the free update for my old version to make it an FSX version and was not happy. You have to jump through some hops to make it work, and it just doesn't seem to be complete, so I bought the latest FSX version. What a difference. It comes already ported over and with all the various updates and patches incorporated in it. It sounds better, looks better, and flies better than any other DC-3 out there, and I have tried them all. Plus there are tons of free addons for them on the MAAM site and others. Now for panels, I use one made by Norm Hancock of dc3airways.com as I prefer a more modern one, but there are many more variations of panels available as freeware on AVSIM, the dce hangar, and of course at dc3airways. As soon as I figure out how to do it, I will post a screen shot of the panel. And if you really want to learn about and fly the DC-3, join dc3airways. It is free and you will find the most comprehensive source of knowledge on the subject anywhere. You will be surprised who are members there.Anyhow, just my opinion.

I haven't given up on the Maam, (well almost) but I'm afraid I'm a pain in the butt really, as I have such high expectations from FSX and addons. Having bought a couple of FS9 aircraft in the past I have always been disappointed, while others have been very satisfied. A perfect example is the Aerosoft Beaver. I read a lot of good posts about it but I hardly ever fly it though, for two reasons, 1) I feel the VC just doesn't cut it for me and 2) the external sound when the aircraft is in flight, is IMHO quite simply appalling! So I am very wary about purchasing FS9 models that have been ported over to FSX. However, you sound very much in favour of this plane. I would be very interested if you could post a nice big screenie of the VC, that would help, especially after your recommendations. The only other factor that would kill it for me is the sound set. Are the external sounds of a good quality? Also, are the external sounds, not sure about the terminology, do they call it coned sound effects? where the external sound changes as you move the view around different parts of the outisde of the aircraft? As I said, I am a pain in the .... but that's just me. So, who knows, you may be able to talk me round :( HowardMSI Mag B650 Tomahawk MB, Ryzen7-7800X3D CPU@5ghz, Arctic AIO II 360 cooler, Nvidia RTX4090 GPU, 32gb DDR5@6000Mhz, SSD/2Tb+SSD/500Gb+OS, Corsair 1000W PSU, LG Ultragear 48"4K, MFG Crosswinds, TQ6 Throttle, Fulcrum One YokeMy FlightSim YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@skyhigh776
March 9, 201214 yr The MAAM DC-3 is really special, and was probably my No. 2 favourite addon for FS9. One of those aircrafts that just feels right. :smile:But I do think, given what Rockcliffe has told us about his preferences and what he's looking for, the MAAM will be a disappointment to him, as the VC texturing is clearly what was good in 2005 but doesn't measure up to the visual quality of contemporary FSX addons in 2012. Honestly, if you are looking at VC modelling & texturing only, I would say the JF DC-3's VC is superior to the MAAMs .... (as one would expect, comparing a 2011 product with a 2005 product). March 9, 201214 yr Here are some shots of my panelIt is a little tricky trying to get a good shot of the VC panels as I run FS Shade which puts shade or sunshine on the interior of the plane as it moves around. The panel being set back under the glare shield is a little darker than the rest of the shot.Stock MAAM VCNorm's VCNorm's 2D
