Sound is one of the few areas where even most top of the line payware struggles. There are extremely few authentic sound packages out there.The MAAM sound interesting. Will check that out ASAP. The Just Flight DC-3 didn't quite make it for me either.

WARNING!: The MAAM was one of my favourite aircrafts when it was released in 2005* but it's not really up to present day standards and I'd be worried that even against the Just Flight DC-3, the MAAM would look very dated these days, and not be what Rockcliffe is looking for. *exactly 2005!... that's all I'm saying :(

Cheers fellas. Stick, I think you may be right. I am a bit of a stickler for quality when it comes to addons. I have tried to get a feel of the texture quality of the Maam, but have been unable to see any images that show the VC in anything other than a small pic. I have to say that IMHO the Just Flight DC3 is unbeatable for the sound set (superb) and hi quality textures. But, as we've all said, the VC is sadly lacking and I agree with Jay, it does look a little like it's been coloured with crayons. Sure, high quality textures, BUT no realism or depth to them. Anyway, I've just filled in a ticket with Flight 1 to try and get a refund for the DC2, I really have no interest in flying it. I was hoping that PMDG's 'secret project' might have been the DC3, but alas it's not to be. I find it amazing really to think that such an iconic aircraft has not been 'seriously' developed. Even to look at she is such a beautiful piece of engineering, I guess if someone can't convince me about the MAAM, then the JF version will be in my hanger for a little longer! BTW, just had a thought, are any of you guys happy to grab a couple of screenies of the cockpit and exterior so I can check them out in this thread? That would be really helpful...

I take back my +1 on the MAAM DC-3, Howard. I just went back to it after being away for a year or two. The VC sucks big time. It doesn't compare with anything that's on the market these days.. sorry... :(

Good, I like what you did there :( ...... but it's pretty obvious I was referring to the tenure of the addon not the aircraft itself. That screenshot really flatter how the VC looks in the sim IMHO....... But look at the overhead; it looks like a photo poster that's been stuck on lol!I'm not bashing it, it was one of my faves, but just like other great releases, (including the Level D 767), it's VC looks a la 2005/6 vintage, not 2012. :(

Hm, pitty you're going for a refund. Too bad the sounds turn you off of this crate. Indeed, no FSX soundcones etc, but anyway. Haven't hear any complaints like yours since we published this.The model indeed was started in 2007 for FS9, was redone in 2010 for FSX and had a major revamp released beginning 2011 for FSX, including 3D animated gauges etc.Not to mention the system compexity, which is far beyond standard FSX capabilities.As stated ,all profits are going to keeping the real plane in airworthy condition.Anyway, you could still reconsider. :smile:Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob, thanks for the input. As I mentioned previously I think the aircraft is a great bit of kit and had it not been for the sound issue I would have kept it in my hanger. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I am a bit OCD on stuff and the external sound really put me off, sorry!

I may very well be mistaken but I'm pretty sure the FSX MAAM-Sim R4D (DC-3) in its current form is an FS9 port - with all that entails. I think an FSX native model has been on the cards for a very long time now...I actually quite enjoy the JF DC-3 VC - although it would be nice to have the option of having VC textures that are a bit more used rather than the factory fresh look we have now. What really lets the JF DC-3 down in my opinion is the sounds. Even with the updated sounds from the service pack they still are pretty bad. Most annoying is the engine idle sound can still be heard whilst at full power! I ended up replacing the JF sounds with an FS9 DC-3 sound set I downloaded from the Avsim Library. It doesn't have the FSX "sound cone" effect but they sound an order of magnitude better than the JF sounds.Now I come to think of it... there was a guy on the Sim Outhouse forums who did a repaint of the JF Constellation VC textures to make them look more used. I think he mentioned he was looking to do other aircraft and the JF DC-3 may have been mentioned? The last I heard was a rather ambiguous message saying the textures were the property of JF. Now I couldn't quite decide whether the meaning was JF didn't want him to distribute these textures, or that JF had taken his work to integrate into a future service pack?

Hello HowardI feel bad now that I steered you towards the Uiver DC-2, I have never actually listened to the sounds from outside view, in fact I have never actually used spot view on any aircraft, I just stay in the VC the whole time.Systems wise the Uiver is on a different level to the J-F DC-3 though and that is really why I recommended it.The sound difference (recording quality aside) between the DC-3's that are available and the DC-2 are probably because of the 9 cyl Wright Cyclone engines in the DC-2 compared to the 14 cyl twin wasp's in the DC-3.
