"Letter" to the MS FLIGHT team....

Featured Replies

This is part of a message I addressed to [email protected]. I am not waiting for an answer because I am not actuallly asking for support on any specific aspect of FLIGHT, but it was my contribution, so I hope, regarding what I really would like to ask for the near/medium range future of this GREAT flight gamulator :-)...==== Excerpt from my message follows... ====And now, to the - I hope - interesting part of my message :-)1) FLIGHT's Flight Model:It feels great already, and it's very easy to find out that FLIGHT must rely on fresh code in what concerns directly to flight physics. Many of the rather annoying bugs / limitations that plagued the successive versions of MSFS were ironed or solved, and FLIGHT, being marketed like a GAME, provides a very sound, educational and even serious physics model. I can only ask for two things, one directly concerning taildraggers, and two are already available in FLIGHT - the Stearman and the Maule - and the lack of a castoring tailwheel. This would make taildragger operations a lot more realistic and simple. The other aspect has to do with the total absence of an overstress model for the aircraft. While I can accept that there are rather simplistic damage models, I would like to see at least an overstress model just like the one we had for fs9/fsx, even if the user can easily fix his airplane with a simple keystroke. But damage due to stress, when the structure is exposed to higher than allowable g-forces, or the speed limits are overshoot, should be there, even if there is an option to turn it OFF like there was in fs9/fsx...2) ATC:I would at least like to have some sort of ATIS. Even in products like ELITE where the main aim is IFR proficiency, ATC is absent buit one can tune to the proper ATIS freq. where one is available and listen to the ATIS messages. This would be great to have in FLIGHT.3) ADD-ON Aircraft:I can think of many many suggestions, but I will ask simply for a twin, any twin, and a glider or motor-glider (the Stemme would be great!!!). Having light helicopter such as the R44 or even the good-old Bell47 would be great!!! Finaly, I would also suggest an hang-glider :-) and this continues to the next section...4) WEATHER:While there are noticeable updates/corrections to the MSFS9/X weather models, and these are looking just GREAT!, from both the physics and visual standpoints, if a glider/hang-glider are going to be included in future DLCs then it would be great to have a better thermal/mountain lift model than the one provided by FSX. Thermals and mountain updrafts are poorly modelled in FSX, but there have been a few dedicated users who changed this scenario, with CumulusX! being most probably the most importantcontribution to turn MSFS's weather into something compatible with realistic soaring scenarios/adventures. Finally, and although this sort of belongs to point 3) above, I would really like to see just a few, preferably none, "cockpitless" aircraft in DLCs... I really don't think it is a good idea, unless you make them R/C models :-)

Sorry for the messed up post, here's a clean version :-)1) FLIGHT's Flight Model:It feels great already, and it's very easy to find out that FLIGHT must rely on fresh code in what concerns directly to flight physics. well written! good points, "pros" presented first, "cons" presented in a well thought out, respectful manner.btw...thanks for asking for a helicopter!

+1 for stress damageI also would like to see some structural damages when I fly too fast/pull too many G's, like wings breaking off etc. As long as they are only options.Regarding engine overstress: I can live without that in Flight. I have other addons for FSX that simulate that properly.

Regards,

Tom

Good email, jcomm..pretty similar to the one(s) I have been sending..It's not much to ask for, is it?!bestjake

Jake, thx for the support! If we all send our ideas to the FLIGHT Team I really think they'll contribute to make it an even better simulator.

Very good email jcomm.BTW curious if you guys get any responses to those emails?I've sent my own emails about TrackIR and DLC but no replies at all, and after reading Mr. Howards tone in the interview about "simmer" opinions, it makes me wonder if our emails go directly into the bitbucket, has anyone even during the beta seen any acknowledgement or reply from the Flight team to any of the feedback about sim subjects of Flight?

Well, this message I sent doesn't really ask for something specific but is rather a list of features I would like to have. Anyway, if I get any answer I will let the AVSIM community know about it :-)We have to give feedback appart from buying the DLCs, and I do believe this is the best way. I'm sure the MS FLIGHT team will be oppened to our suggestions.

Nope, John..not a peep, but I'm not expecting one. I suspect they have a little more than our emails to contend with, right now LOL.I'm still going to keep sending them every time I see something broken or think of something that would enhance what's there..It's mainly regarding DLC tbh..IMO they need to be a little more forthcoming with the "roadmap", so we can see what is (or isn't) coming down the line. I'm nearly done with Flight now, as far as existing contecnt is concerned..I'm bored of the Maule-only (bar hamburgers) missions..want a little more variety now..bestjake

Cool, it is good to know that it's not just me not receiving any acknowledgement, though it sure would be nice if we got even a auto-reply that our feedback has been received and is appreciated especially since there is no official support forum and those of us who didn't get picked for the beta have no access to the beta forum.A roadmap would be even better, however I think that interview despite all the corporate talk non-answers gives us somewhat of a roadmap if we read between the lines, seems like more missions, planes, scenery and leaderboards is the near term roadmap.Anyhow as this thread shows, plenty of quality suggestions and feedback is getting to the MS Flight team through the official email support channel and not just on the "hostile simmer" forums, so hopefully they are listening even if silently :D

They are listening/reading. And sending in your concerns and requests is something that I would definitely encourage (very good letter BTW). The important thing is to treat this like a business letter . . . you don't have to be formal, but be respectful and be concise (don't ramble on). And if you start out a letter/email with something like "Flight is terrible" or "Flight is just an arcade game for kids," no one will likely read beyond that first insulting line.

Indeed. I apply the same sort of filter to forum posts as well...
