March 25, 201214 yr Hello Captains,I have had the pleasure of owning the NGX 800/900 since launch and I have really enjoyed getting to grips with Tutorials 1 + 2 however my experience has never gone beyond this point therefore I have some questions.Firstly how far along is the AOA media training, a while ago it did not look to promising however the site has undergone a lot of refurbishment and a new preview has been put up. How what units in each section have been covered?Other than AOA what other training and reading material is availible for general skills related to the NGX? ie navigation tipsWhat software should I get? TOPCAT? REX or ASE2012? Other IPad Apps? FS2Crew? Thanks Tim HeptinstallAirports I have been to: Doncaster Robin Hood Airport EGCN, East Midlands (EGNX), Manchester (EGCC), Tenerife South/Reina Sofia Airport (GCTS), Fuerteventura Airport (GCFV), New York John F Kennedy International Airport (KJFK)Aircraft I have travelled on: 737-800 (Thomson), 737-800WL (Thomson, Ryanair), 757-200 (Thomson, Thomas Cook), 757-200WL (Thomson, Thomas Cook, American Airlines), De Havilland Dragon Rapide (Classic Wings G-AIYR). March 25, 201214 yr Here is a list of all the software that I own that supports my FSX experience. Of course, I didn't buy them all at once. I am happy with all the purchases. March 25, 201214 yr Author Yeah but is FS2crew a program that you have to have a lot of experience to use first or can it help on the learning curve? March 25, 201214 yr It comes with work flows and checklists, and a quickstart guide to get you up and going. I would say the learning curve is minimal. Chris Hicks
March 25, 201214 yr Hi man,As someone having a lot of experience since "Sierra Pro Pilot" i can tell you that to get the most out of your simulator you do not need much stuff: I mean that you got tons of softwares that a totally useless and "crappy". Stick as much as possible to the reality is an important criteria for me, for here is what i advise. (before i go with the list i must say that, us, PMDG customers, are very lucky because what we buy is always a complete product so we do not need much more to have a realistic home simulation.):- Active sky 2012 (believe me no need to get REX: combination is possible, but AS is enough and way better than that combination)- FSBuild (route planner, and fuel planner as well: Thats really all you need and its definitely the best out there)- Topcat (performance calculation tool: some A/C should be added to the data base but very couple for the 767, MD11 and 737....etc)- Shade (available at Flightsimstore)- EZdok CameraWHAT REALLY IMPROVE YOUR FSX ARE SCENERIES. To Have an idea of what the combination of all those soft looks like and which sceneries you should get i suggest you watch three videos of mine entitled: THE ULTIMATE FSX COLLECTION / AND THOSE ON MY SIG. Not to say that these videos are references but i think they illustrate several aspects of my post.Hope that help !Do not hesitate to PM if needed. March 25, 201214 yr I would recommendAS2012 above anything else. (the weather engine and tetures inserted into fsx makes it so much more real)There are more if you can spare the moneyFSC as it helps you generate realistic flight plans that can be inserted directly into the ngx fmcTopcat if you are serious about doing your own load planning (fuel and pax/freight)Avlasoft EFB as it makes flight monitoring and planning a bit easier (but there is a overlap with fsc so you might want to skip fsc and go for avlasoft efb as only flight planning/monitoring tool)fs2crew as it helps you understand the workflows for 737 and also has some fun in ordering the coffee from the flight attendant.Voxatc if you like to improve the atc (but still it is syntehic and the best experience is through online (vatsim/ivao flying)And last but not least (as mentioned) scenery of your favorite places. (Nothing gives as much as an immersion as recognizing the place)good luck Fred Koch system: r3700x , R9 Fury, Kingston A2000 M2 1Tb system drive and 512GB Samsung EVO 850 app drive. Flying , P3D V4.5.dd-on's: Avlasoft EFB, AS2016, FSC9, NL-scenery V4.0, plus many Aerosoft scenery.
March 25, 201214 yr Author Ok so I think I will definatly be getting TOPCAT and Avilasoft EFB first. Then it will be active sky and FS2crew and finally I will add ATC by signing up to either IVAO or VATSIM when I am confident enough. I think for route planning I will go with FSCommander as I had a play with that tonight and found it very easy to create routes simply by visualizing them and even gave me a better understanding of what transitions to take etc... Also it was just a one click to get a route rather than trawling through the internet. All that remains is for a fuel calculator so any suggestions? Also nobody has said anything in the way of training and learning the NGX, I was going to go with AOA however I want to know how far along it is until I invest. March 25, 201214 yr - EZDOK- AS2012- TrackIRand of course . . . .FS2Crew (voice)This is the better prioritized list in this thread. Those are the "must" haves minus TrackIR (it's not a must IMO with EZDCA, but I do use it). ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
March 25, 201214 yr EZDok was my first purchase, and after much thought, it's the only thing I believe you HAVE to have. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
March 25, 201214 yr This is the better prioritized list in this thread. Those are the "must" haves minus TrackIR (it's not a must IMO with EZDCA, but I do use it). +1I would suggest to get FSBUILD (more complete option and good ergonomic) instead of FSC. Its a fuel planner and route planner as well: Very Very very easy to use: just 2-3 clicks and you should be up and running. The best way IMHO to master this bird is - to watch a couple ( i mean several videos over you tube or other medias related to the 737 cockpit atmosphere, and procedures (flight preps, Take off, Landings, etc....).-Watch some tutorials of the NGX on you tube- Ask here to people who already have experience- READ THE DOCUMENTATION THAT COME WITH THE NGX !In conclusion, i really do not see the use of buying for a media when you can legally have these data or manuals for free, i mean given that you have others options to learn the systems without paying for that extra cash. You with me ?! (even if AOA work is correct: but in my opinion you can use that money for something else: just an advice here) Kaman BAPMDG 737 NGX Flight Preparation using EFB, TOPCAT, FSBUILD & AS2012 Leaving the dream ! March 25, 201214 yr - Active sky 2012- topcat of course otherwise how will you calculate the takeoff and landing performence?-ezdok, depends, sometimes it's too sensitive in my opinion-try to get aerosoft airport, flytampa and uk2000, as many as you can, as i think it's the mose important thing in my opinion, you can actually know how the airport looks at real life and i proved it, when we landed in munich at the cockpit, i could tell the pilot's every thing on the airport, so ya i think it's important, BTW the number of the gate, are on the ground, correct taxi signs, and a lot more, enjoy the beauty, good luck mate. March 26, 201214 yr Author I have just been looking at the TOPCAT trial version and it appears it can estimate fuel and yet nobody has advised this program? Of course this is only for the 744F however I would think that it would still work for the NGX wouldn't it?
