FSX Deluxe or FSX Gold

Featured Replies

Hi Ryan,

I'm going to purchase the FSX but I'm not sure which version I should purchase. One is the Flight Simulator X Deluxe and the other is the Flight Simulator Gold, which I think comes with the Deluxe and the Acceleration. The thing I noticed is that FSX Deluxe says it's just for Windows Xp and I don't know if this version is compatible for Windows 7. The Gold editon says it's for Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7, and I hear that the deluxe version in the Gold edition is an upgrade from the original deluxe version. Is that true? Or will the FSX Deluxe edition work okay in Windows 7 without getting the Gold edition.

One other question: I've just installed the PMDG 747-400 Queen of the Skies. Now, which should I install next - the 1.2 update or the Frieight. I remember one is supposed to be installed before the other but I forget which I should do next.

Ken.

Gold is a better deal

I have deluxe on win7x64 & it runs fine. Whichever edition you get be sure to click "more options" during the install & use a path like C:\FSX or even a different hard drive if you have more than one. Keeping it out of C:\Program Files (x86)\ will save you some headaches later on.

I installed FSX in C:\Program Files (x86) and I had no problems.

You probably run everything as admin too. Widows protects files in C:\Program File (x86)\ from changes. That can and likely will cause problems with a lot of addons.

Umm... no. I don't do anything. I just fun FSX via Steam and nothing happens. btw, I use Norton Internet Security. That may be the reason why.

Norton is a 'no 'no... It runs in the background and can slow your computer down significantly!

If you install FSX in the program files directory, you can edit the file permissions for the FSX directory and all its contents to allow you write access without the nagging UAC. This will also free you from many problems associated with addon installers.

Tom

I got two drives so it it was a simple choice to put fsx on the second drive and other window and programnes on the other, if you only got 1 drive than you havnt got any choices.

As you see, Gold is the best deal. Best of both worlds, and just $1 more expensive than the Deluxe + you get the Acceleration Expansion Pack.

When you install in your own folder it acquires your permissions. When you install in Program Files it acquires the permissions of that folder which do not include write and modify for the group "Users". So if you want to use the default install folder Program Files then all you need do as soon as you got it installed is set write and modify permissions on the FSX folder for the users group and allow subfolders. Now it reacts the same as if you made your own folder.
