April 11, 201214 yr Hi all, I'm a button version user who just slipped across the border to find out about this voice version. First, presumably you can setup to hear the FO voice out of the speakers, not just the headset. Secondly but more important - how do you know what to say for any given situation? Look forward to your responses. Iain Smith

I'm just new to the voice version myself and was kinda intimidated at first, but if you print out the tutorial and the check lists, its a matter of reading from a script for a while. I am starting to memorize things slowly, so i guess eventually i won't need that "script". If you read through the docs, you will see that you can vary what you say as well. As for having the F.O. talking through the speakers, yes you can. That is how i am set up. Regards, Rick Hobbs
April 11, 201214 yr Hi Iain You should have access to the Voice Manual and Tutorial, its all in there what to say and when. Its great when hand flying the NGX to just say "Heading xxx" and your very helpful FO selects it for you. If you can move over to the voice version its very satisfying when you get it right Glen Glen
April 11, 201214 yr I'm a long-standing button person too - the NGX is the first voice system I've tried. There's a learning curve - as there is with the buttons - but the big difference is that you aren't JUST following a script with the voice version. The script is there as for the buttons as a structure for the set-piece flows & check-lists but there is also a long list of commands you can give the FO outside that script on an ad hoc basis. Someone mentioned telling the FO to set the heading but that's just one of what, 250 different instructions? I'm afraid I was taxi-ing out in the rain recently and couldn't resist telling the FO to turn the wipers on & off all the way out to the runway. Sad or what! I'm not getting it quite right every time yet but I'm a convert!

From the outside, the aircraft must have looked like an arm waving contest at a commodity dealers' night out. April 12, 201214 yr Thank you all for your replies. I will get myself a headset/mic and give it a go. Iain Smith They're some great tutorials an user made "cheat sheets" that can help, and you can ask away here if you need more help. The user made tutorials are in a sticky at the top of the forum, they're pretty good Damien WeekesCaptain 737NG / A319/20/21
April 12, 201214 yr And the neatest thing is that you have to use a headset, so you've always got that excuse: "Sorry dear i didn't hear you" Regards, Rick Hobbs
April 12, 201214 yr Author I do that anyway Rick, with the excuse that the 737 cockpit is one of the noisiest in the business! Iain Smith
April 12, 201214 yr But on the flip-side, this topic brings up a pet-peeve of mine when comparing, or learning to memorize, the various FS2Crew voice editions. What troubles me is the fact that the same command or voice-prompt is different between many, if not all the voice versions. For example, IIRC, in the Level-D version, the checklist response to whether or not the pre-flight brief has been done, is saying the reply 'performed'. Now, in the NGX version, I have to learn (memorize) the proper reply is 'completed'. If I'm not mistaken, the MCP commands on the Level-D begins with 'Set'. On the NGX, MCP commands begin with "Select". This drives me nuts! Why on God's green earth can't some of these voice flows and particular commands use a 'FS2Crew standard' phrasology, and not be different for each released version. I still like to fly other planes depending on the mood, but then I have to do a complete voice-control refresher before switching. I love FS2crew, especially voice control, but IMHO, this is where it falls short. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE

I still like to fly other planes depending on the mood, but then I have to do a complete voice-control refresher before switching. Because variety is the spice of life  The actual reason is because, generally, for each FS2Crew we use a different consultant for each plane. For the NGX, I used Damien, who has several thousand hours on the actual plane. If I ever do an Airbus voice commander, I'll use a current Airbus pilot with a couple thousand hours on type, too. Each consultant has a different background, so each version of FS2Crew is naturally different from the others. Cheers, B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
April 13, 201214 yr Hello, all, when i respond to the copilot to certain procedures, let's say flight deck door, i say closed&locked, and he doesn't continue, so i need to say set. what should i do? thanks.! Daniel choen
April 13, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hi Dan, What does the Green Bar say? Make sure you run the Voice Training. If you get stuck, you can always say "next" or "set". Cheers, B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
