April 20, 201214 yr Author Hopefully P3D 2.0 comes out sooner then later; orbx scenery are now all compatible with P3D, PMDG decides to make their NGX compatible with P3D, and the IVAO client is made fully compatible with P3D without tweaking. Then, I think we will be set, and should be good for the next 5 years or so. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
April 20, 201214 yr I need a working mic plugged into the network pc? Yep. Plus this for FSX.......Avsim library how_to_simconnect.zip. WideFS for FS2004. ArDee
April 20, 201214 yr Commercial Member :LMAO:. Yeah, I just laughed my &@($* off. I'm not a programmer, but either you don't know what's behind an addon like the NGX, or you're aware of comparing apples and oranges and are just being ignorant of it. I however, am a programmer. And i am well aware just what goes on on both sides. Jonathan "FRAG" Bleeker Formerly known here as "Narutokun" If I speak for my company without permission the boss will nail me down. So unless otherwise specified...Im just a regular simmer who expresses his personal opinion
April 20, 201214 yr Come on, you can't possibly compare a 2 year (or was it longer?) project like NGX, on which a whole bunch of people were working, with a single-person-project like SB4 that took about what...a year? Not saying both are not complicated, only that you can't compare those two concerning complexity.
April 20, 201214 yr And Vatsim is working on a new client as well... I saw something on the vatsim forum about this.... that website is now gone. A new Vatsim client has a unblemished record of failure. Eric
April 20, 201214 yr IVAO's software is easy to install and maintain, I cannot comment on it's functionality however as I did not use it enough to find out. I signed on to IVAO once and flew a route given to me by a friendly controller there, I was going to go back and do it again a few months later but found my ID was deactivated for being gone for too long. It's a shame IVAO does not have much North American coverage and traffic. I like that IVAO requires that their ATC zones include members that live in those zones, I think that gives the zones a true local feel. I also understand IVAO has a liberal policy when it comes to new controllers on the tower position at non-major airfields, I like that too. I can say for certain, on-line with real people flying and controlling in the same environment is much more fun for me then off-line with computer generated ATC and AI aircraft. I would say, try out IVAO, you might really enjoy it. Regards Fritz
April 20, 201214 yr Ye, I gave up on VATSIM because of the buggy, outdated software. Had constant player.cpp errors (just like many others, check the forum). Solution was to use SB4 outside of FS, rather than module. Well, I didn't want to do that because I used chat more than mic. Tried FSinn and it didn't crash much, but was buggy too. And always the problem with FSAA and SB4/FSINN. Just can't believe such a big network still uses such outdated software. They said they were working on a new client, but haven't heard of any news since. That IVAO software looks a lot better. And since I never fly in USA/CA, might give it a try! John doe
April 20, 201214 yr Squishy - I would highly recommend you get a cheap used laptop with just enough RAM, you can put W7 on it, network it and have absolutely no problems any more.
April 20, 201214 yr Author Squishy - I would highly recommend you get a cheap used laptop with just enough RAM, you can put W7 on it, network it and have absolutely no problems any more. I'll donate some money if someone can create a working client on iOS. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
April 20, 201214 yr As we had a few posts above the question why IVAO and VATSIM do not merge ... Would it be useful that we start a kind of petition? I have found some threads why they have separated a few years ago; mainly personal differencies as far as I can remember. Online flying is a great fun, but I couldn't understand why we have two big groups. Have them merged would be a win win situation for all participants. What would speak against a fusion? What would speak against a petition? April 20, 201214 yr The best would be if both just agreed to make one new big organization. No VATSIM. No IVAO. Maybe VATVAO :) Take best from both worlds, just make a new thing. ARTCCs would be a big problem, but still, if they agreed to divide the time or something, that could work also. Imagine all pilots just clogging the whole network, how awesome would that be. Like RW :)
April 20, 201214 yr ARTCCs would be a big problem What do you mean with that? April 20, 201214 yr There are FIRs and ARTCCs on both sides, and how would you merge them to one network? That would mean ALL ARTCCs would have to agree to merge into one, just like VATSIM and IVAO would do.
April 20, 201214 yr Squishy - I would highly recommend you get a cheap used laptop with just enough RAM, you can put W7 on it, network it and have absolutely no problems any more. The fact that you recommend me to buy a separate laptop to get SB4 to work properly says it all to me . Vatsim needs better clients and everyone knows it John doe
April 20, 201214 yr Not only SB4. You could: run FSX in full screen, no need for alt+tab, run FSX on the clean computer and run basically any software you want on the 2nd laptop. The fact that you are running FSX on the single machine laptop tells me you don't want a 2nd laptop. But whatever... I am running SB4 very successfully for years already and have no need for change. Add to that UT2 models, and I'm a happy user.
