April 18, 201214 yr 1. Software stability -- I've had it with the VATSIM client software, either with squawkbox or fsinn; I would randomly crash for no apparent reason, no issues with IvAP. 2. Software setup and network -- everything seems to be integrated so well on IVAO; planes don't stutter like they do with squawkbox, you don't have to spend HOURS configuring plane skins like you do with FSINN because there is an inbuilt automated MTL software. 3. The Eye -- network viewer is just *awesome*; where else can you get a free network viewer that displays everything in 3D, tracks all airplanes, and displays current weather? 4. There is also an official iOS iphone/ipad app which works equally as well and even has a moving map function so you can track your plane as you fly. 5. Network is busy (especially if you fly in Europe, SA)! IVAO in a whole, seems to be more organized with continual software support for their apps and network; I'm not bashing vatsim but I've just had a smoother experience with IVAO so far. April 19, 201214 yr The ONLY reason I fly on VATSIM is because its a lot busier in the USA/CAN. I hate SB and FSINN, both are just terrible, outdated and FSINN in particular is a pain to get used to and has a lot features that I don't really use. April 19, 201214 yr With all the troubles SquawkBox 4 and FSX has, its surprising to me that no one has either tried to update it or write an entirely different program. I gave up on SB4 shortly after switching to FSX... A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. - Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
April 19, 201214 yr With all the troubles SquawkBox 4 and FSX has, its surprising to me that no one has either tried to update it or write an entirely different program. I gave up on SB4 shortly after switching to FSX... I said that 4yrs ago :) If Vatsim is so great why is this the case?? My thoughts are they are more concerned about controllers than pilots. Now does that make any sense? be fun controlling with each other :) ArDee
April 19, 201214 yr Ya I love the IVAO software, I don't like using teamspeak though, and I mostly fly US/Canada aswell.
April 19, 201214 yr I've got zero issues with SB4 + FSX + Vatsim... But I recommend trying out Pilot Edge if you're a little more serious about flying... http://www.pilotedge.net/ | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 19, 201214 yr I run SB4 on a network computer and have no problems but over the yrs I ve heard so many complaints. They are rescource hogs running on the same computer as FS. ArDee
April 19, 201214 yr I've finally got squawkbox working right now since my switch to fsx. I just start it after fsx - making sure there's power first- and you have to restart it if fsx has been shut down. And admin rights are important too Lee
April 19, 201214 yr I wanted to run SB4 on my network rig but is it true I need a working mic plugged into the network pc? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 19, 201214 yr I wanted to run SB4 on my network rig but is it true I need a working mic plugged into the network pc? I got that setup to work with FSInn if you have any interest in switching clients. My headset plugs into the FSX computer so I can use FS2Crew Voice, and FSInn runs on a separate laptop, and I can speak to and hear through my headset. Shane Gavin
April 19, 201214 yr IVAO will never be top dog until the US/CAN get much more traffic. They do have some nice software but the reason I stay with vatsim is due to the USA/CAN issue. Eric

April 19, 201214 yr Commercial Member Isn't that what they said a few years ago? Making a client for a network is just as big a job if not bigger than making an addon like the NGX. Patience mate.
