April 26, 201214 yr If you ever plan to upgrade The Saitek pro flight yoke system its a great setup for about 149.00 USD with the 3 lever throtle set up . you can always add the rudder pedals later . Image removed as image is no longer available.
April 26, 201214 yr Rather than using the software for the joystick/yoke enclosed on the CD, I suggest you go to the manufacturer's website to download the newest version. You'll probably save yourself a lot of time and aggravation since the newer versions tend to have better features and bug fixes as CDs that come with hardware can be quite out of date by the time you bring it home!
April 27, 201214 yr Author Hi Thanks for the advice... To answer Toms question I did install the software and I also went online and downloaded the latest software I could find for it. But I think it said in the instructions that It was supposed to open a prompt when you plugged it in prompting you to run the software, it never did that on any of the three computer I tried it on. And it never showed up in control panel. It appeared to me that the box had been opened before I got it, (no seal) and I'm guessing that someone returned it before I got it. I hate it when they do that!!! At least I didn't have to pay shipping to return it. I'll look through the recommendations and then order a new one. I have an old Flight-stick Pro that I've had for years but my computer doesn't even have a plug like that anymore. I've flown real planes with both a yoke and a stick, and I think the stick is more natural too. I also fly RC with two sticks both fixed wing and helicopters. Mike
April 27, 201214 yr I use the Cyborg FLY5 ($49.95) Logitech Extreme 3D PRO is ($29.95) PRO seems to be better, esp for the price. Did not read reviews first. Just went out and got the 'best' when MSF came out. PRO got better reviews, as I discovered later. Cyborg has slop/play in the stick. It's as sensitive as I can get it. The higher price seems to be for multiple programming for different games. When using external cockpit view, I tend to over-correct. Inside the cockpit, I'm more relaxed. BUT I use my Xbox 360 controller when I want to go through hoops or for quick action games and the quick-reflex missions/challanges in MSF. The response is instantaneous, almost too quick. ie., the very first mission in MSF, I always do better with the Xbox360.
April 27, 201214 yr I use a basic Saitek ST290 Pro, about $20.00 bucks at Walmart. Works well with FLIGHT. Might I also suggest some reading material. Stick and Rudder by Wolfgang Langewiesche 1944, still the definative book on the subject. Nothing has really changed. I am dating myself but I still use a required book from my flight training days, 1982. Visualized flight Maneuvers Handbook, for instructors and students. By Harold J Holmes who just happens to be the flight test examiner for my PPL check ride. You can't go wrong.
April 27, 201214 yr I'm using a RealFlight (radio control flight simulator) Interlink Elite controller. It is physically very much like a full RC Controller. Just no actual transmitter electronics in it. Dual sticks. Throttle and rudder on the left stick and elevator and aileron on the right one. If you are used to flying radio control models this is VERY natural. Never did much like a normal joystick. It is pretty well supported by Flight. The only problem is that they treat the switches as buttons. The gear switch on the controller should be gear up with the switch flicked up and gear down with the switch flicked down. As it is now treated by Flight, flicking the switch up will either raise or lower the gear depending on where the gear is already (like pressing a button). Flicking the switch down does nothing. Gord
April 27, 201214 yr Saitek ST 90 :) Happy Flying, Clem Wu Beta Tester for OZx, Iris Simulations and Shade.
April 27, 201214 yr As a lot of other I also use the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Love it. But... recently, specially for Flight, I added Saitek Combat Rudder pedals to my setup. If you want to have real fun: get pedals and use those instead of the twist rudder. As soon as you get used to pedals that twist rudder option of the 3D Pro is nothing more than a gimmick... really! It's incomparable. The twist rudder IS nice if you have nothing else, but you really will not be able to use rudder as a real pilot could. I still use the 3D Pro for elevator, aileron, flaps, trim, etc. of course!
April 27, 201214 yr Old Av8R seems to work best with Flight for me, with pedals from old racing wheel. Tried FFB2 (THE best joystick ever.... calling it junk because MS dont support FFB is a bit extreme, it's still excellent for Black Shark, Condor, Rise of Flight...) Tried X45, works but too complicated, best for A-10, Falcon X52 still in cupboard, too scary X-box controller? ... that would be giving in ... wonder if I could use my Logitech controller (http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B002FRIEAE ) If you want to have real fun: get pedals and use those instead of the twist rudder. Agreed, when I (rarely :-( ) fly real planes the rudder was the only issue, especially taxying. Pedals essential... Cheers Keith ...
April 27, 201214 yr Bought same Joystick less then month ago because my old Cougar become too jerky. It works from start and I think it's a good stick for 50 bucks. Hi Not sure that this is the correct place to ask but I'm playing Flight using the mouse. I ordered a Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X Flight Stick from Amazon. When it arrived it didn't work on my computer. I plugged it into 3 computers mine, running Windows 8, my wife's running Windows 7 and another computer running Windows 7 all 64 bit. It was detected i.e. "A device detected." but wouldn't show any place in control panel or in any game on all of the computers (no interface to adjust etc). I returned the it, now I'm looking for an option. I don't want to spend a lot of money but I'm will to go $50 or so. What would users recommend? April 27, 201214 yr Stick and Rudder by Wolfgang Langewiesche 1944 I 2nd that! I Still have my copy and it sits just a few feet from my computer. Still have all my old vintage 70's Jeppeson textbooks, too. I learned some interesting glide path control techniques from Stick and Rudder. Especially useful for planes with no flaps. And I'm not talking forward or side slips. There are additional ways to drop like a rock, in a controlled way.
April 27, 201214 yr I use the Saitek X52 pro system. Looking to get some Saitek rudder pedals to go along with them. I also have used the Logitech extreme 3d pro joystick too. www.stratoart.com Fine Art by Dale Jackson "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings..."
