September 19, 201213 yr Hi Ben, have you heard the new 777 Worldliner sounds Are there any videos online? I am specifically referring to ambient engine sounds, not passengers vehicles etc...
September 19, 201213 yr Are there any videos online? I am specifically referring to ambient engine sounds, not passengers vehicles etc... not sure of any videos showing off just the sounds but seriously i have hundreds of hours logged with PMDG aircraft but this 777 just blew my mind with it's features, textures and sounds. It even surpasses Captain Sim in the eye candy dept.
September 19, 201213 yr The glass reflections on the instruments in Xplane are incredible and something that adds great realism and has been missing in other sims. However the instruments themselves are somewhat blurry and not as sharp as other sims-sometimes I think I forgot to put my reading glasses on.... Does increasing texture fidelity help? I suppose they could alwys use high res textures for plane interiors regardless of the global settings.

Nope- if I recall A developer told me higher resolution has been requested but so far no dice. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
September 20, 201213 yr Commercial Member Nope- if I recall A developer told me higher resolution has been requested but so far no dice. This is standard X Plane texture resolution. Although, I have to admit, a few workarounds were done, but nothing no other developer couldn't do. https://dl.dropbox.c...nshot_2 (3).png
September 20, 201213 yr jcomm is right! I'm amazed at how awesome xp10 is, even with these missing features that everyone mentioned. I haven't touched fsx/P3D in over a week and i honestly think that i'm going to retire these sims permanently, they just seem too cartoony and unreal(on rails) compared to XP10. Time to focus with my mind and credit card on XP10  I've ridden rails that are all bolted together. Qlackity, clack. I've ridden rails that are all welded. Smooth for the most part. I've flown many (real) planes that are smoother than a car on the freeway..........and actually have much less of a sense of motion, than those welded train rails. It does depend on the weather. Planes are not always continually buffeted like a flag being blown on a stationary flag pole. They ride with the air mass. Not as smooth as a balloon though. I've ridden them too. My definition of rails is "auto-pilot". That's where the heading and altitude remain constant, or at least to the auto-pilot settings. FSX doesn't ride on rails. It merely defaults to smooth air settings. I find that, quite realistic. L.Adamson P.S.---- in reference to what I just re-read elsewhere............... calm wind conditions, or even smooth conditions in flight, happen VERY often. If someone hasn't experienced enough calm flight, then they should fly more often. Or at least, the right times of the day. Once again FSX is not "riding on rails".
September 20, 201213 yr Commercial Member When people say it feels like riding on rails, I'm guessing it means the flight model feels TOO stable and too predictable, when compared to X Plane.
September 20, 201213 yr Different water textures, especially tropical turquoise and shallow reef textures. Tropical locales look decidedly less... well, tropical with the default dark water. Doesn't REX for XPlane provide this already? This is an interesting thread because if LR want to position XPX as the mainstream future sim platform, then it is going to have to consider feature enhancements which the mainstream following of other sims consider important - features that XPlane's core user base have shunned and scoffed at for years. But I do like the positivity of the thread and the fact that so many FSX'ers are chiming in with serious suggestions. I am definitely sided with Ben on the sound system. Bad audio is an immersion killer and I do hope that this will be looked at as a feature enhancement. I shall be purchasing XPX next week and am hoping for a real 'OMG' experience.
September 20, 201213 yr REX for XP is only for ver. 9, and as far as I know, it doesn't do anything with the water. But if you want an OMG experience, take the 172 through the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Say, for example, take off from Skagway and thread the needle north. Real weather if you dare, since it's been pretty thick up there lately. X-Plane's mountain flying experience is unparallelled. September 20, 201213 yr When people say it feels like riding on rails, I'm guessing it means the flight model feels TOO stable and too predictable, when compared to X Plane. That's part of the problem. X-Plane, at least with possible settings, may be too un-stable as far as realism is concerned. It may give the impression that the samller GA aircraft is always bobbing around, and takes constant pilot inputs.........even if they're minor. Let's take my (real) RV6 for example. These planes are not considered near as stable as a Cessna 172. They have more of a fighter feel. Move the stick slightly, or lean one way, while checking a chart or adjusting the radio, and off it will go to one side. It's the reason most RVs are equipped with auto-pilot for IFR work. Yet, on so many of those morning cross country flights, the RV is just as smooth as smooth. Just like FSX, you need to watch heading and altitude, or you'll eventually drift. But................you're not making constant adjustments to just stay level. It's like it's riding in a crib of air, in which the stick tends to want to stay in it's level position, because of the airloads on the flight surfaces. Of course, the plane also must be in trim. What that really means, is that the real plane is far easier to fly than the sim..........for straight & level. During the warmer months, as the day heats up, I can usually expect some turbulence and bouncing. Towards the evening, around 5:00 PM, it could easily be calm again. During the winter months, hours & hours of smooth cross country flight, is easily possible. As I've mentioned previously, out of 40 RV cross country winter hours.........about 20 minutes were mild turbulence. This is something I kept track of back in 2004 for "flight sim" purposes. What I don't like seeing.................is terms of what's "thought" because of using various flight sims. When I say that FSX does NOT ride on rails, it's because of plenty of actual experience, and not impressions of what some may think an airplane flies like. Anytime the "ride on rails" is mentioned, of course, I'll have to set them straight. My wife thought the video shown at the other forum, that insinuated "more normal" Cessna 172 flight, was rediculous, for what it was intended for. We watched it again, last evening. She's just one of those, who really enjoys GA flight. L.Adamson
