When can we get a release, waiting with bated breath

[thread-jack]

Its a big update that's in the works. No ETA yet. It'll be after the Saab which is number 1 priority atm.

BTW--- I'm not diminishing XPlane at all here. It has it's faults, FSX has it's faults. But don't think for one moment, that FSX isn't capable of replicating real world flight characteristics to the point of being very believable

So far...(and this may change as things progress of course) I tend to agree. They both have their flight modeling faults...in fact, in a strange way I can't help but feel that they're both sort of at opposite ends of the spectrum. Each seems to be at extremes yet in opposite ways generally speaking. To me, X-plane feels too sensitive or over-reactive (too unstable) in certain ways, and yet FSX seems to be too stable at certain specific times of flight.

I think I'd like it a whole lot better if we could just meet in the middle somewhere:-)

Please take into consideration that the major problem with RW Weather was the way METARs were being translated into X-Plane10's internal weather. This has been fixed / quite improved starting RC2, and now RC3.

As a mater of fact for me this is also a proof that when we document our "complaints" properly LR finds some way of eventually making them effective in some future release. I sent Austin a few notes on METAR (since I work where they're produced here in my country), and, sooner thanI expected it got fixed!

Last week's intense meteo episodes at some Azores airports were a good example of how good now X-Plane10 translates METAR with variable and gusting winds.

I think this thread has transcended 'whats missing in XP10' and moved towards 'how to get the best simming experience' by combining time in a set of sims, with a set of free and commercial add-ons.

It would be really good to have a forum dedicated for similar topics, focussing on the positives without having to denigrate competing sims...

Sorry, better take rose-tinted goggles off!

Back 'on topic', one of my main XP10 omissions got omitted from the recent summary - Missions.

Currently working through the MilViz Baron missions which are excellent, and have extended my knowledge of flying by the biggest increment for a long time.

Which knowledge can then be leveraged whilst flying similar a/c in XP10.

Comparing the Milviz and XP10 Barons - XP10 is rather friskier and entertaining to fly, the Milviz one more stable, better for going places, much better Vcockpit, much better for learning the lessons. Obviously it costs more. Which is more accurate to RL I don't know, never flown a twin :-( I suspect the truth to be somewhere in the middle, especially in England where the weather may be more frequently choppy than in the Milviz Texan skies.

I am sorry if my comment about the physics offended anyone. I won't indulge in how many decades of flight simming experience I have, nor what a great RW pilot I am. But switching from FSX to X-Plane, it took two or three approaches in a large jet to realize that FSX is indeed a game compared to X-Plane. People who made the same experience and still defend FSX do that because they invested a lot (money, time and loyalty) and don't like change, maybe also because they are at another age than I am (32). But as a platform, X-Plane blows FSX out of the water, period. I will not be gentle about that, we're not talking about deceased relatives here. Sorry. And not only by physics. To anyone who complains that X-Plane feels to nervous, light ext., turn on the stability augmentation. Of course planes handle differently with a plastic joystiq with no feedback and no physical connection to the rest of the plane. Really, I recommend you to let go. FSX is a technically obsolete (already in 2006), badly programmed relict and just a sad piece of software. Just remembering how AI traffic (UT2) would reset ANYTIME you opened a menu or map ... gives me shivers. X-Plane is a blessing for anyone who looks for an immersive sim experience at the state of the art. All you have to do is commit, and you add-ons will follow.

I started flying real planes, 12 years before you were born. I totally disagree....

Please tell us what Large jets in FSX do you think is a game? Certainly not the PMDG NGX? Anyone who thinks that's a game has no credibility at all!!!

Thanks

There is this phenomonon, in which the (pilots) brain can fill in gaps. Geofa & I have mentioned that for many years. While most computer joysticks do not have feedback, there is still an amazing amount of feel..........that's projected just by sight, and the sticks centering spring. I fly the sim the same way I do with 2" R/C sticks, the stick in a Pitts, Stearman, Marchetti, Diamond, and the RV's. What that means, is that I don't over control, or feel that a plane is too sensitive just because of a plastic joystick.

The Milvitz B55 has the best Baron fm on any sim presently however not really fair to compare this magnificent add in to the default Xplane Baron anymore than it would be to compare it to the default FSX Baron.

However, there is the clincher-I don't compare fm's, scenery, cockpit instrumentation so much to other sims as I do to reality, and closest to reality is what I am after. Right now if you want to know what it feels like to land a plane generically, IMHO Xplane does it best-if you have a high quality add in set up correctly. However, if you want a Baron, or want to go into other flight realms, overall Xplane has lots that needs improving-in all areas including the fm.

I think those the have invested in it, especially over the years, want to see it grow and improve by leaps and bounds, especially at this sad juncture in simming. Again, has nothing to do with FSX, though I think one can also learn always from the competition ( and I 'd be looking at aerofly-not only FSX).

Therefore, a simmer makes choices-realistic systems, scenery, overall flight model, even ai traffic all go into the choice of what they will use. I think all posting on this thread are hoping especially for Xplane, that it could be that choice-hence the suggestions of improvements that could keep those of us who presently own and use it with it, and attract potential future users. A good thing....

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Its interesting you feel that way. Many will disagree (vehemently) and many others have yet to be convinced. There are many ways to sim, and XP is just one of them, no more or less valid than any other sim IMHO

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

To sim or not two sims, that is the question :-)

For me it is just a question of inability :-( I can't play/enjoy more than one at a time :-/

And I really have so many other things to do that I'd rather take one that give's me sim time to play, and some chances to even try my own designs/tweaks without having to dig into the bytes.... ( that's what I do for real... )

1) a true DEMO : only 10 minutes with a working joystick is too short to try a game !

(I probably would have already bought XP if I could have properly tested it with the DEMO)

2) more finished planes : I may be wrong but as far as I remember from the DEMO, we have no finished helicpoter in the game : only a 2D panel made several years ago (please correct me if I'm wrong ;-) )

I suspect this is the plane you were referring to...

The Milvitz B55 has the best Baron fm on any sim presently however not really fair to compare

Exactly why the overall point I was trying to make is that we should embrace all the options we have, and embrace the strengths of each platform.

There is absolutely no value in saying "only Z is any good, Y and X are rubbish", to do so is merely to limit oneself.
