May 21, 201214 yr I cant help but feel a little disappointed with my purchase of the PMDG NGX B737-800/9, having been a previous FS9 customer, I feel the models seem to lack ANY dynamic shine and that is on both PMDG official repaints and widely available freeware liveries available no matter which livery I use there is very minimal if any dynamic shine. I am not sure if this is an omission in the paint kit as I have started a repaint of a livery myself and it is clear there is no shine in it in comparison to its predecessor the FS9 version or other payware aircraft models and paintkits or if it is simply a limitation/omission in the models itself, but I feel it takes the prestige out of such a potentially great product and while some can forego this perceived cosmetic "eye candy" in lieu of the excellent systems and modelling etc that you get with this product but I just cant seem to get into this FSX NGX version for the above reason unfortunately having tried MANY times. This is of course just my own personal opinion but I feel it hinders my likeness for this as a product as a whole. :(

The examples below were in a late afternoon almost dusk timeframe. It shines fine in bright light situations If you remove all the weathering layers in the paintkit, it will shine. Post an example from another airfcraft of FS9 to compare and help us understand your perspective. Steve StubbsUSAF (retired)
May 21, 201214 yr Commercial Member Please sign your name to your posts, this is a non-negotiable PMDG forum rule, thank you. We feel a lot of addons are far too "shiny" and take on an almost icy or plastic look. We did not do that with the NGX because it's not how a real airplane looks. You're also the first person I've ever seen make this complaint about the NGX... What are your system specs? - I'm actually wondering if somehow you're not seeing what's supposed to be there because of old GPU hardware or something like that. May 21, 201214 yr Not to be disrespectful, but I don't understand what you mean. The lighting and exterior textures of the NGX, IMO are superb. Ryan, I hope my paints aren't coming across as too bright. I tend to lean towards the freshly painted versions versus the ones with a little mileage on them, so I usually remove some of the weathering effects. Great product! Thanks for posting a reply. May 22, 201214 yr Luckily PMDG concentrate on the important aspects of the flight, from the flight deck.

Steve I am one of those who like the "fresh from the assembly" look both in the exterior and cockpit (if possible), and I guess there are lots of us, so don't worry. When I look at pictures, take for instance, when the sun is down toward eye level, the shine could deceive you into thinking the body of the plane is made of glass, just like a new car would look having been polished with car wax. I thought not being able to achieve that level of shine was a limitation of fsx (?), so I've learned to live with what I've got. Chidiebere Anyahara

May 22, 201214 yr OP: I have had no problems with the nice shine that most aircraft have. There is a thread in this forum by Chris Hicks (aka JokersWild) where he has added some eye candy to the exterior. Please check this thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/367169-exterior-enhancement-pack-for-the-800/page__p__2309277. It may be what you are looking for. Off topic: I hate dirty planes and cockpits. Seems there is a sample of these forums who like dirty, but from my own experience, I can't find one crew memeber who actually liked the plane dirty in or out. Quite the opposite. From my (very limited) experience with airline execs, I've heard more than one grumble when seeing dirt on or in their multimillion dollar investment. Two major areas for them, where the jetway connects (will sometimes leave a dirt rectangle) to the main exit and the elevator as it meets the rest of the empennage (dirt trails show the elevator's movement). I feel you. I went to qw's 787 website, and the 787 they're currently making has all those dirt trails on them. That's a turnoff for me. Clean cockpit, clean exteriors for me. I wish mcphat would make liveries with the detail they put on their liveries, but clean. I expected them to do the green unpainted livery to look new, but I was so disappointed with what they did.
