New GA single- RV-7 or LanceAir?

Featured Replies

I will probably end up with both of these anyway, but wondered if they are similar enough (in terms of real life missions) to compete with each other, and what any comparisons are in the FSX products from Real Air and Bay Tower? They both look brilliant.

Right now I'm consumed with the MilViz B55 Baron, which is awesome- seems we have been blessed with some really good GA releases of late. But would love a quality GA single also. I have the RXP-GNS 530 (WAAS) bit not the 430, and would like to use it in this new product, if that helps with any recommendations. And I'm only looking at these 2 birds.

Thanks, Bruce.

What a choice to have to make! I've got both, got the RV7 on Dec 22 and flew it every day until the Lancair came out. I love them both but they're in different classes. The RV7 is exuberant fun. You can't be in it for too long before a loop, roll or hammerhead inexplicably occurs. The Lancair is a more thoughtful beast. Landing it cleanly is, well, for me anyway, an achievement which puts a smug grin on your face. It means you have properly managed speed.

Before the Lancair came along there was NO choice, now it's tough. Good luck with it.

Tough choice is an understatement. The reason I've been flying the lancair lately is because it's much faster... Lancair does about 240 ktas @ 8000 when the rv7 does about 180

Thanks guys- and yes, I will get both.... you convinced me....

How much better can it get with FSX? I can't wait for the RA C172 which is in the cards for a future release, I have several hundred hours in the real thing..... but man it's slow!

Slow is a relative thing, Bruce. Would you rather be in a C172 at 4:30pm on a Friday heading north towards the "mouse trap" or be in a car on I-25 doing the same thing? Just wondering...

Oh Ron, i see you haven't changed a bit! :LMAO:

I agree with Ryan and Ron, I too am fortunate to own both these birds and yes, while they are different, they do share similar qualities. As Ron siad, the RV-7 is brilliant for aerobatics and dropping into a landing run with ease. The Lancair however is also fun but needs a little bit more thought in it's approaches and landings. A very difficult decision if you have to chosse between the two and I would not like to say one way or the other... so, get both is my advice :good:

Your 530 WAAS will work nicely in both of these - I also would say that the RV7 is easier

to jump into and just have fun, whereas the Lancair, properly flown, will get you there faster.

Thanks to all the responses to this thead, I really appreciate the knowledge here! Bert, thanks for the heads up on the 530 WAAS. Meshman, I agree. I'm lucky to live 8 blocks from work here in Boulder, so don't have commute on I-25, but have flown over that freeway many times as I get established on the 29R ILS at KBJC, which is right over the mouse-trap, (ALIKE) and noticed the parking lot below. :)

Thanks, Bruce

The only thing I would say is the Legacy will add more hit on your CPU. Both are fine planes but the Legacy has a few more features packed in, which comes with a price. If you are running on the edge with fluidity right now, then just be aware it will have an impact.
