July 4, 201213 yr Sometimes I really want a short, fun, and challenging flight. I like to take off from any airport in the Seattle area (Orbx enhanced) like Boeing field, or SeaTac itself in a Cessna L-19/10-1F Bird Dog and fly about 5 to 8 minutes to Vaschon Municipal (Orbx, of course) and do it at dusk. Vaschon is very challenging and you can't touch the high grass on either side, or the lights...or you will crash. It needs to be a perfect descent over the trees and down on the runway right down the middle. The airport and static planes are reminiscent of an old time airport, and it is like something from a different world and time. Of course, you could use any plane of your choice, but I especially like the Bird Dog, and if FLIGHT had made this a VC enhanced plane for Alaska, it would be spectacular! If you have Vaschon Muni, you must feel as I do about this jewel. Any favorite short, fun, and challenging flights in your repertoire? Let me know. Stan

July 4, 201213 yr I agree, Vashon is superb! If you have KORS, try flying from KORS to Clam Harbour airstrip (WA35) that is on the Southern side of Orcas Island not too far from Clam Harbour. It is very short and is surrounded by high trees, plus it has lots of people walking around! I can nail it now that I know where it is, but it's still a superb challenge, even more so if the sun is setting... Good luck! July 4, 201213 yr I have had it installed for god knows how long but because it being a bit far from most orbX airports I have (I rarelty operate in and out of enhanced default ones) and it being close to Seattle (= mediocre performance), I never tried it. I'll try it out soon though if it's that good. Thanks for mentioning it! I actually have the Sibwings Bird Dog, so I'll give that a whirl too. Maybe take off at Harvey, or First Air perhaps? July 4, 201213 yr Hmm, let me see, lovely ORBX scenery in the stunningly gorgeous PNW, PFJ, CRM, & TFX areas, or shuddery, jittery, wet, and rainy UK photogen scenery without trees or buildings?... I'll take ORBX, thanks! Mr Fabio Lagattolla"It's better to be on the ground wishing you were flying, than flying but wishing you were on the ground!"

July 4, 201213 yr I can't fly at the moment, but I just watched my son enjoy a flight in the RV-7A across the PNW doing touch and goes from one ORBX field to another, this followed by a J41 flight from Ketchikan to Petersburg. And now when I look out of my Surrey window, there isn't a fjord in sight, and the only water that I can see is falling from the sky, just as it has done for two months or more.... Sigh! July 4, 201213 yr Agreed about Vaschon. It's one of those airports that lets you know immediately if you have got lazy in your approaches. If your glide slope is off or your not in full awareness of your surroundings and in total control of your aircraft you will eat a tree or run right off the other end of the runway. The margin for error here is slim to none. You better use a STOL plane for this 5 minute trip. Very short runway and tough getting into and out of. Great challenge. Thanks. Stan
July 4, 201213 yr Flew in there (sim) a while back in the 172N. http://altstiffsim.b...-leg-three.html Great blog there! And yes, the flight is very scenic, a bit hard on my computer but very scenic indeed. The Vashon scenery is amazing freeware for payware quality!
