KLM has started retiring MD11

Oh well, I remember when I was in my twenties and flew to Amsterdam with my girlfriend at the time, she asked my why some aircraft have an engine on the tail and pointed out an MD11. My answer stupidly was not to fly in DC10's or MD11's because they are dangerous! I would give anything to get a trip in one of those aircraft now.

The MD-11 has experienced many technical problems. So it is better to remove them.

its really sad, and they are not going to another airline, they will go to victorville ca to be parted out and scrapped :(

I noticed I haven't seen them into YYC lately with the MD. It will be missed.

Doesn't World use the MD11's for military charter flights? I didn't think regular pax fly with them.

Check their timetable. KLM (SkyTeam's PC timetable) doesn't have a M11 flight to St. Marteen. Just an KLM flight AMS-CDG and an AF flight CDG-SXM.

Wrong!

KLM flies twice a week AMS - SXM - CUR - AMS with the B744. They did use the MD11 on that route but not anymore.

Too bad they will leave the fleet. But we all knew it was comming.

I flew on a KLM MD11 in July last year from EHAM to TNCB, Bonaire. The flight continued on to Quito, Ecuador. I guess this may be one of their last remaining routes.

I noticed that the AMS-SFO route has been changed to 744, remember seeing the MD11 everytime I went spotting over the last 2 years atleast, and as recent as March this year.

KLM MD11 flights are:

Atlanta

Toronto

Vancouver

Montreal

Aruba

Panama

Havana

Theran

New Delhi

Some of them are mixed operations with the A330. None of the MD11's goes to Martinair. First KLM have GE's and secondly Martinair will go to the 777F if a new one comes in.

Too bad the KCH is out because that's the only one I could find for the PMDG reg.

KLM doesn't bring the MD-11 into Toronto and hasn't since August 2011 sadly, its all A330/747-400 or 777 operations. Also Vancouver switched to a 777 this Summer.

LAX has MD-11 service this Summer thrice weekly. Also missing from your list is Bonaire and Curacao which are currently served by MD-11.

On my trip back to the UK this April I actually booked a flight routeing YYZ-YUL-AMS-EDI only to fly on one of those gorgeous MD-11s while I still could.

The experience was every bit as wonderful as I was expecting and I'm so glad I went on one before they are retired. Great flight, great airplane, will miss them when they are gone for sure.

I've seen their MD-11 a few times in JFK. That plane is beautiful. Sad that it has to go now.
