September 2, 201213 yr Sorry I haven't posted any new updates to the HD gauges. My job has picked up and I have had to start traveling again. I will be away from my flight sim machine till at least December.
September 2, 201213 yr Your RAF looks really nice. Is the registration under the wing upside-down or is that the way a UK reistration appears? The registration is shown just as it is on the real world aircraft on which this paint is based (search G-AMPY online, there's plenty of photos). Under one wing the reg is shown right way up, under the other wing it's upside down. As this is a fictional paint, I have changed the reg from KK116 to KL117. I can't comment as to the historical accuracy!
September 2, 201213 yr I love this plane! but im a bit lost in the thread. Can someone post a summary of these fixes/repaints?
September 3, 201213 yr Hi, I need a little help. I just installed the 3D gauges and all of my gauges have gone black. I'm sure this is nothing more than a self-inflicted injury, but I can't find or identify the error (damage shown below). Thank you for your assistance. Please ignore the above. I found the problem, (me!) and have taken appropiate action (slap on the hand and a smack on the back of the head - Gibbs' manoeuvre!). The key word was... EXTRACT... D'oh!! Edited September 3, 201213 yr by firehawk44 Removed photo as it was not required.
September 4, 201213 yr Well Guys, after flying a few hours with the suggested auto-pilot settings, I experienced more and more weird things happening in other areas. I have set them back to the original settings and things have smoothed out except for the "hold". I'm back to wrestling it down the glideslope. Warned you that I didn't understand all that stuff.... September 5, 201213 yr I had a problem selecting modes in the BT. With all autopilot switches off, I had to select APR and then select AP. I did not have to do that in the C208 or C172. Flying the C172, it still doesn't capture the GS, or is it just the BT? Dave
September 5, 201213 yr Dave, If you come in from near SML airport, flying west at about 35.000 to 39,000 (under the glideslope) with heading bug set to west and HDG, ALT, and APR (and AP) on, it will pick up KROA at about Burnt Chimney and the HDG light will go out and you will be turned to #33 (109.70). Shortly, the ALT will go out as you intercept the glideslope. Here is where there is no "capture". Yes, you can follow the glideslope, but there is no "grabbing" you and heading you down as there is with the heading capture. There must be something that will do that. I copied the heading settings (not knowing what I was doing) and it seemed to help, but I could not keep the engines under control upon landing (brakes wouldn't hold). With the AP off, I don't know why it would do that. I also find that to be the case in the 172. In previous releases (FS 2002 and 2004 for sure) there was a "lock". Maybe I should reinstall one of these and check the settings?? Hum - just thought of that... might try it tonight.. John John Wingold
September 5, 201213 yr The ILS limits in FSX are: LOC-The LOC pointer will become active and capture (or lock) your heading at about 25 miles. GS-At 5,000 feet, the GS pointer will become active and the pointer will peg up at about 20 miles. As you continue inbound, the pointer will move down and center at about 18 miles. At this time, if the AP is on, in APP mode, the HDG light should go out to indicate capture (or lock) of the GS and the autopilot starts a 3 degree descent of about 500 feet/minute. The above should happen at every airport (with ILS) and every aircraft. If it won't capture the GS at any airport or with any aircraft, the problem is not the BT. Dave
September 9, 201213 yr Old_As_Dirt: Some people say that the Garmin(s) interfere with ILS and Autopilot APR. Perhaps try switching them off or to VLOC.
September 9, 201213 yr mjahn, Thanks for the suggestion, but I have been flying without any Garmin activation. After going back and even copying the settings for a DC-3 from FS9 (not much different), it still exhibits the same tendencies. I have tried X-plane 10 (I know wrong forum - but hear me out) and it locks and takes me right down to the end of the runway without having to adjust anything. They just use an autopilot that I haven't really figured out completely how to use. I have gone back and tried a few other FSX planes and there is no "lock" in the ones I have tried - a slight tendency to hold, but not much. There must be some magic line that's missing, but I don't know enough about it to start to sort it out. I love the BT and this is a minor annoyance, but not one initiated by the BT team. It appears just to be an FSX thing .... and maybe just a John thing. I am sorry to have caused so much angst, but I thought it would be a simple thing. Maybe.... it's supposed to be that way in RL, but it just seems that autopilot should be just that ... AUTO. Thanks for everyone's interest and attempts to help. John John Wingold
September 10, 201213 yr John, I am the least reliable person to comment on flying let alone AP practice, but the reason I chimed in here mentioning the Garmin GPS was that I encountered exactly the same problem as reported by you - until I turned the GPS off for final approach (following a suggesting in another forum) and then the glide slope did lock on just as it was supposed to. So it definitely is possible, and it makes me think there must be some general setting not working on your setup. Perhaps a point by point comparison of settings could clear it up. In my case I even turned on the Aircraft > Visual Flight Path option to check if everything was in working order, and it was. In other news, the Spectrem and Bell Geospace models and liveries should be available by the end of the week.
September 10, 201213 yr Thanks mjahn, I may try a re-install after saving what I have. It works so well that I am reluctant to meddle any more, but that should be a safe way to do it. The only changes I made from the second release were the liveries and panel changes. Maybe something went wrong with one of them. Cutting grass tonight after work. Maybe tomorrow! Thanks again, John John Wingold
September 10, 201213 yr One more point just in case ... if you are using a flight plan make sure you have IFR ticked.
September 10, 201213 yr mjahn, No flight plan on this bunch of tests, just leaving the airport intercepting ILS and landing. By the way, when I say "lock" it does not mean that the ALT indicator does not go out. It "knows" that I have intercepted the glideslope, but does not control the descent. I know how to follow the indicators in the HSI, but it just seems that the "autopilot" is missing the GS "AUTO" part. It just seems that if you enter the glideslope and it recognizes that it has intercepted, it should control your descent just as it did when it took over the HDG and lined up up with the runway. Am I wrong? Thanks again, John John Wingold
September 10, 201213 yr Yes that's what I understood you to mean by "locking" on to the GS. And that's what it does, except on your setup. Perhaps others have a better clue ... something to do with ILS perhaps? Are you using a saved flight?
