Basler BT-67 Turbo Conversion DC-3 released

Featured Replies

I know our cockpit does not fit to 100% the original Basler BT-67 cockpit.

Each Basler BT-67 got it's unique cockpit layout! Even Polar 5 and 6 (both operated by Kenn Borek Air/AWI) are completely different!

Maybe we're updating this in future!

Remember, it's FREEWARE :(

We just wanted to release our Basler after one year of development.

We could have spent about two or even three years more in adding all the knobs and details like on the real Basler.

It takes weeks or even months to create a custom 2d/3d gauge!

You can still switch to the payware version

Daniel, I don't think anybody complains. Not at all, the folks are happy that your team came up with the plane. Read the notes on it as statement of interest. That's something the payware thingy lacks of. ^_^

I mean, your modelling alone is well above the payware. Not to mention the details and the FDE work. So keep those future liveries coming, you already have some fans.

I think you folks can be pretty proud of what you've achieved and if you had a donation link running, I would be the first to use it. B)

Added the fixes from above. I like the standard views a lot better. I also adapted the fine RTAF paint by M.Jahn for the Navy C40. Go Navy. I like this plane more every time I fly it. Thanks to the development team. Great work.

In regard to 'flooding', it is indeed possible to flood a gas turbine engine such as the PT6A, although it does mean something slightly different. On a piston engine, it of course means too much fuel in the cylinders, which prevents ignition, or water ingestion which risks a hydraulic lock and crank damage. On a turbine, it means you have a lot of fuel in the combustion chamber, which is a fire risk on starting, and has therefore to be vented before attempting to light the thing up. Any hot start on a PT6 requires a takedown if it has occurred, to check for damage, otherwise Pratt and Whitney will rip up your warranty, and doing that's expensive and time consuming.

With regard to the ASI, as noted by Daniel, this is freebie, and so it is using more or less what gauges are available to all within FSX, which is a compromise, but a good one since we can of course edit things at our will. The pictures of Basler BT-67 cockpits which I've seen (note that there are at least five different ones on airliners.net) all show an ASI with no red, yellow, green, blue or white arcs at all, but only the red stop mark at the VNE, beyond that, there appear to be no other marks whatsoever apart from the airspeed numbers. It's also worth noting that the BT-67 has a different certification to the DC-3, it being cleared for flights into known icing conditions, unlike a standard DC-3, which, even with the old de-icing boots, would be a riskier proposition, as anyone who has read Fate is the Hunter will of course know.

In relation to the VA, I suspect it may be due to the fact that some Baslers have additional extremeties which a normal DC-3 does not have, such as fuel dump stuff and retractable skis. Both of these probably would limit the maneuvering speeds in the sense that you might not rip the wings or ailerons off, but you could probably bend some of those other things owing to a sideways aerodynamic load. That is just a guess incidentally, but I think it might be the reason.

I think again, we're into stock FSX gauge limitation territory with the fuel flow gauges, although I agree it probably should have a higher range.

And to Daniel, thanks again to you and all involved in making the Basler, this thing is bloody marvellous, especially with the TSS Beech 350 sounds on it, which just make it even better. Can't thank you guys enough for having made it, and for your generosity in doing it for free as well, the FS world owes you guys big time.

You bet. I love it. Check my signature. Thanks Daniel. (How's 'em teeth?)

1st Bug Fix:

- RPM and NG-indicators

- correcting tooltips for Engine 2

- correcting views (F9/F11)

Thank you very much for the excellent aircraft, and thank you for the providing "correct" views so quickly. I can now use EZdok and TIR with no problems.

Btw, I would have gladly paid for this aircraft--hard to believe its freeware.

Joel Murray @ CYVR (actually, somewhere about halfway between CYNJ and CZBB)

Thanks to all who created and posted this beautiful aircraft. Also thanks to the guys here for bringing it to my attention and who are working on making it better. Flies great and is becoming one of my favorite FSX aircraft. I would love to have the Navy livery.

I will get it uploaded to the Avsim Library this weekend.

Ray (Almost old as dirt, I remember as a kid smashing a couple of Hydrogen atoms and mixing with one of Oxygen, all of sudden we had water everyplace.)

EDIT: OK, repaint has been uploaded to the library. Navy_C40 for Basler BT-67. Give the library guys the necessary time to do their thing.

No need to apologize Cheese Strike. You and your team have made a fantastic virtual aircraft. I think most of us are overwhelmed by the generosity of releasing it as payware. There is so much that is cool about this release and it can only get better with mods (thanks CoolP) and repaints (thanks Raymar). Please accept my kudos for an amazing job well done. There are so many functional and cool items. I mean who has a sunroof for Pete's sake?

These Baslers are custom built to the owner's specs. It's the golden rule...."He who has the Gold, makes the Rules" Borek or someone wanted this flight instrumentation layout and that's what they got.

It flies great and is a worthy addition to anyone's virtual hangar. Please accept my gratitude.

The Navy C40 repaint is here . . . . .

How does this look (given the resources at hand)? We are also thinking about replacing the ASI.

Nice! The feedback to our 'Lady' is huge!

Preparing my textures for upload! Thinks this will happen till friday

Nearly finished the Texture section on my homepage, created some thumbnails to make it easier to find them.

http://cheese-repain...t-67-dc-3-turbo

Those will be uploaded to flightsim.com only (they've got our base pack as well)

I'm not 100% happy, the colors still look unrealistic, need to create some dull effects!

I'm in need of some texture testers!

If interested mail or PM me!

Thanks Daniel,

Very professional look for your Base Pack. Looking forward to the repaints being available. Thumbnails will be the selection easy. Of course, you need one more thumbnaii for 'Download All'. B)

Looks good to me. What are you thinking about a revised ASI? No yellow, or very minimal yellow for turbines. I like the basic 6 + the necessary complexity of specific aircraft and equipment. Just one opinion. I would personally put the Needle and Ball in the basic six. Reason: You have to fly the airplane first, navigate 2nd.

I would also move the 'Flaps' gauge up higher so it can be seen for approaches and miss approaches or go arounds. See suggestions below. This is based on rw DC-3 flight experience but intended for flight simulation only.
