Basler BT-67 Turbo Conversion DC-3 released

Just completed a flight from Iraq to Romania in it. Seems like fuel burn is more or less on the money, possibly a little on the generous side, but that might have been me being careful with the engine management. Flight model is good. Had a dual ASI failure on that flight too thanks to Air Hauler, so I had to use the GPS groundspeed reading as a makeshift ASI for the landing. Series of screenies of that flight here:

This is one of the best freebie FSX aeroplanes I have come across, which is lucky for me, because it also happens to be one of my favourite aircraft.

great tips for the sounds. i am using my aerosoft twin otter sounds too, mixed in a custom config file with some of the default DC-3 sounds (gears and flaps). works good enough for me :)

Yup, there have in fact been many of them. There's the Conroy Turbo three, which has Rolls Royce Dart engines, and a later version with three PT6As, then there's the USAC Turbo Express, made by the United States Aircraft Corpration of which I think 15 were built, and there's the BSAS C-47TP Turbo Dakota, made by Braddick Specialised Air Services, most of which went to the South African Air Force and which also uses the PT6, and of course there is the Basler Turbo Conversions BT-67, which is the most well known one, with absolutely loads of them built.

It's a great conversion, gives the old girl a 28,750lb MTOW, ups the maximum speed to 225 knots, updates the avionics, adds new windows and a stretch to the fuselage, strengthens the wing and increases its area a little, gets new control surfaces and a revised tailfin, and renews the airframe hours to zero, effectively making an old DC-3 into a brand-new and even more versatile aeroplane than the original, but still with that lovely shape. Lots of government agencies use them, and some militaries use them as gunships, a bit like the old AC-47 Spooky.

Another factor to consider in the real world is how large the cablin is for work related travel and the taller folks swear by it. No one really wants to spend all those millions on a bizjet and not be able to standup to take a leak. The oversized windows and heavy capacity with the new higher speeds make it a worthy contender for business travel along with all the other neat things to do with a nice big fast classic.

.......

Yes, Aerosoft's Antartica X will be a great addition for this one. Plenty of room to roam and land most anyplace.

Mmmm, I should think even a poshly fitted out DC-3 would be considered a bit agricultural by most business people when they could have a G-5 or something instead. For one thing, you have to walk uphill when boarding it. At nearly Mach 1 in G-5, you don't have to actually wait long until you can use the bathroom on the ground, the Basler would take nearly ten hours to go its full range. And Joe Blow is probably still going to think 'it's a tarted up old aeroplane' rather than a classic.

Of course if it were me, I'd p*** in a bucket if it meant I could drive around in a DC-3 all day, but I shouldn't imagine Donald Trump is with me on that one. However, if that lottery win shows up, I'd be buying one of these things for sure.

Ironically enough though, the first time I ever went on a DC-3, I was actually chauffered to the airport in a Daimler limousine, with a police motorcycle escort too - it's a long story.

I've got all day for a good story. Were you in handcuffs?

I did a simple one liner on the Sound Alias and the Twottler 300 works great.

For those of you flying this aircraft......Max Rex will be using it to fly in the jungles of South East Asia and Vietman on the "Rockller & Fritzer Expedition" looking for the resent Meteor strike which is causing strange thunder, red lightning and a acrid smell in some parts of the jungle. Anny Vrazzer, the well known " Earth and Space Museum Curator" in Milano will also participate to the joy of all. Airfields are very short and some still have large bomb craters so flying into them will be a challenge for this beautiful turbo.....

Textures are on their way, those will follow the next weeks!

I'm sorry, I need to recover. Lost my 4 wisdom teeth on monday, still looking like a hamster ^^

And we're hosting the worlds biggest triathlon this weekend here, I'm an assistant so there's less time!

Pictures can be found on Facebook!

If anyone got some pictures of the exterior versions that can't be found on the internet -> mail at: [email protected]

Liveries to follow (call signs).

C-FMKB, C-GVKB, C-GJKB, C-GHGF, C-GEAI, C-GEAJ, N707BA, N932H, N142Z, PNC-0213, PNC-0258, C-FTGI, N845S, 5T-MAH, N40386 (Basler Turbo Conversions), TZ391, N36AP (bare metal), maybe Enterprise Air but they don't fly anymore ...

Good work, Daniel. I'd bet the athletes don't care much for your hamster looks, but the flight sim folks love you for your work on the plane. I'm currently cruising France towards that nasty British weather.

Seems like Gera above already sets up challenges for the bush pilots.

How's the short field performance on this version?

:LMAO: :LMAO: :LMAO:

LOL, I knew someone would think that. Okay, here's the short version...

Back in the 1980s, when I still lived with my parents, my mum and dad were the mayor and mayoress of my home town. And so what happens, is whenever there was a function they had to attend, the limousine comes to the house because the guys in the limo, the driver and the usher, have the job of bringing the mayor's and mayoress's official chains and putting them on them, since they are normally kept safely at the Town Hall. When that used to happen, if they were going anywhere where I was off out, I'd sometimes cadge a lift in the limo, which was funny, with me often being dropped off to meet my mates in a limo complete with flags on the front wings.

So anyway, once they had to officially open and attend the Airshow at Woodford (EGCD), which is the airfield where BAe used to test their aircraft and where the crash landings of Mosquitoes were filmed in the movie 633 Squadron (it is now no longer an airfield, but is still one in FSX), since it was in the Borough of Stockport, my home town. I was going to the airshow anyway, to see that DC-3 amongst other things (it was an Air Atlantique one), but of course because they were going to it as well, naturally, I cadged a lift off them. As you might imagine, it was always really heavy traffic on the roads when that airshow was taking place, and we soon found the limo stuck in a queue, but of course there are police all over the place, directing traffic and such.

Anyway, two motorcycle cops ride up, clock the mayor's car, and so they decide to get us through the traffic jams by escorting us on the wrong side of the road, with sirens blaring and blue lights flashing, and us belting along past all the lines of traffic in that flashy Daimler limo with the flags on the front and the private number plate JJA1, all the way to the airfield, straight through the gates of Woodford, and right up to the VIP enclosure, where that DC-3 was also parked up, with a red carpet laid out up to its rear airstairs. You don't get to do that too often, do you?

It matches the real thing well, and you can find the real thing's stats here, at the company website of the guys who make it:

Thanks for sharing the story. Nice one.

No, I'm still looking for my first time.

Wow. What an informative website. Gotta add this one the favorites bar. All new numbers for me.

Basler is breathing lots of new life into the old girl. I'm really glad we have this fine plane to fly in FSX. Thanks to all who have put in all those hours just to give it away. I certainly will treasure this one.

OK, does anyone have a cut and paste for the aircraft.cfg file to bring the views back into the norm? F9 really s/b the standard VC pilots view, I would think.

I agree, checking to see if the left engine is still on its mount in imprortant enough, but not as important as the forward cockpit view for me.
