The day cloud based gaming becomes mainstream is the day I stop gaming.

Try to have a lot of fun over the next couple of years.

Try to have a lot of fun over the next couple of years.

I'd start selling my peripherals now..A couple of years is a long time these days (although at Redmond, with their temporal distortion field, you know, the one that makes those little blue progress bars say longer and longer times when you are copying stuff) two years isn't that long at all..

Cloud-based everything is here to stay. It's what IPV6 is for..everything will be connected soon..

Last night I decided to buy a Game from Aerosoft called World of Subways ( grew up in New York City and loved to ride subways) It is so nice to go to a web site, hit a couple of buttons and an hour and a half later it is on your PC. The only problem is that the copy guard they put on it and registering it can be a pain sometimes, like last night, until I realized that with windows 7 you have to install the program as an "administrator" by right clicking on the file. Once I did that, saw that it ran well and looked good, I even downloaded an add on for the version I purchased. So they made a quick $35, and I have nice looking game and didn't even have to leave my home.

Rail-simulator was just on sale for 90% off on steam and would have cost you only $3.49 (Its still 50% off till the 23rd)

That being said, I have all of the world of subways stuff because I just couldn't resist.

Just like I could not resist getting my hand on the Amtrak Northeast corridor for Rail-simulator. Steam rocks!!

Well I never thought that I would ever buy a train Sim, but the idea that there were Sims for subways surprised me. I played with it about an hour this morning an love it. Now if I can just slow down a bit more on the sharp curves..

Oh yeah indeed got to love steam... Pretty much everything is on big sale at the moment, I have bought so many good games and also Il-2 Cliffs of Dover.

That's not steam, that's electric!! And you're right, steam DOES rock. :D

Speaking of which, do they have any steam trains in there, if so how many and how are they? A list would be nice if possible.

Railsim is what flight probably wants to be when it grows up, and yes there are steam engines as well as diesel, Too many to mention, and more on the way. Here is the products page, and clicking on those links..... takes you right to Steam. Also a quick video. Quality is so-so, but the music takes it over the top.

The last train ride I was on was a coal fired steam excursion from Baltimore to Philadelphia. Oil is a lot cleaner; if you stick your head out the window with a coal fired train, you'll get cinders in your hair.

When we got to Philadelphia, the guys I was with got an antique streetcar out of the museum and we rode around the city. It's not what you know, it's WHO you know. :D I couldn't understand why the streecar looked so familar until I saw pics of my grandmother who was a conductor on just such a car at one time. I must have been about 3 or 4 when I was on one with her. We got a lot of strange looks from people who were expecting a lot more modern streetcars. :D

I did love the steam trains in Microsoft Train Simulator. They're a lot more difficult to operate properly than you'd think.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I spent a few hours with the World of Subway sim last night and am surprised at how much attention has to be paid to this program to run it correctly. The illusion of speed is great, because you are on a train that is moving very close to the scenery, versus something like a Flight sim where there isn't much illusion of speed. The speed of the subway train has to be constantly adjusted for the speed limits and track conditions, stopping at stations, opening and closing doors on the right side of the platform. etc. etc. So far my scores for completing all these tasks on a run of say 20 minutes is dismal at best. I would have never anticipated that running a program like this would be such a challenge.

I assume me meant he could not crack it.

Hi Fritz, maybe he was just after free DLC. FSX has tons of it available - ofcourse some free DLC does exist for Flight - redtails for example but it's really the lack of 3PD which are restricting this. I wouldn't like to think anybody would be advocating cracking on this or any other site but of course it does exists sadly...

Cheers,

Dave.
