The best HD series Carenado ?

Featured Replies

I'm having a lot of fun so far with the C90b. I would agree that Carenado's documentation is a bit scant, though, so it's taking some time to learn the bird's characteristics. It certainly is a looker, that's for sure..

Hopefully not spoiling the thread, but take a look at the Milviz Baron too. Superb optics and great accuracy and features. Easy on the frames and you can also test fly her due to the 30 day money back policy.

I went over to Flight1 and I couldn't find any Milviz Baron. I did however find a Milviz C310R. Did you mean that?

The 340 is nice. I really like the sounds on it too.

They are selling it via their site, but with the F1 system. Don't ask me about the background, but the 30 day policy is in place, so no worries. http://www.milviz.co...item.php?id=B55

Their C310 also is a fine ship. But the VC on the Baron is a step ahead, hence the note on it as you were into the great Carenado optics which the Baron can easily stand up to in my eyes. Even more so since the features go further and the price is very reasonable.

All their planes require heavy tweaking to be more realistic. I love their C208, there is an additional patch available on their site to add more realistic system and flight dynamic modeling.

Throw in the RXP 430 and WX500 and you have a perfect addon.

Hope it isn't spoiling the thread...wonder how it compares to the Duke. How's the 530 and 430? Does it accept RXP?

The Duke and B55 Baron are two very different planes IRL, the Duke being a pressurized entry level cabin-class and the B55 Baron a true light twin. The B55 is basically an F33 (the smaller) Bonanza with two engines - technically 6 place but for practical purposes 4 with a good sized baggage compartment. The B55's virtual cockpit is one of the best around - if you've spent time in a "Baby Baron" then you'll feel right at home - but be forewarned. A B55 is what it is, and the cockpit, just as in real life, is a single engine Bonanza's changed to scrunch in the instruments and switches of a twin. And the Baron/Bonanza yoke doesn't help in making things visible/accessible (of course in the VC you can magically make the yoke disappear).

I LOVE mine, and it's my most flown plane right now, but I have a personal connection so I may be biased. This is a very nice recreation of a terrific, but slightly aged, light twin.

BTW, the RXP integration works very well since the service pack, though I had to "roll my own" rxp.cfg. That config (for a 530 and 430 setup) is posted in the Avsim Milviz forum.

Must add that one can get the Carenado planes and receive an active refund policy too. One way is the purchase at F1 and the other one at Carenado directly. Same for Alabeo planes. At Carenado itself, I've already (had to) used that  and it worked fast, plus the staff was friendly.

Seeing it as a fair policy in place. :good:

Getting back on topic, the 337 remains my favorite Carenado plane. While the panel may be, well, not a thing of aesthetic beauty, I still find it beautiful as its one of the best panels for instrument practice around, as everything (except some of the AP controls) is wonderfully visible and accessible. A single RXP 530 integrates easily, and I rather like having the classic Collins Nav/Com pair as the second radio rather than another GPS. It fits the older style of this plane - oh, but you still get a flight director! Yes it's a different sort of plane, but I like that.

Right now, I'd say my next favorite Carenado is the P46T. There are some tweaks you'll probably want to make as CoolP notes, but nothing difficult and a quick read in the Carenado forums should get you going. The biggest challenge for this plane and the C90 is the lack of documentation, but again the forums have stepped in pretty nicely and the needed information is out there. Ironically, one of the biggest helps for me in having the basics right (I'm a piston guy IRL, not a turbine pilot) was the excellent information I already had on the Turbine Duke.

Scott

That documentation issue indeed is a noticeable one at Carenado these days. At Alabeo too. They shouldn't abandon that one.

Scott names it, for Carenado purchases, the forums become your friend. Means if they haven't been before.

Grr... make that panel.cfg. Sorry.

The price was listed as 29.99. But 29.99 what? Us dollar Euro or what? So the Baron is better with regard to visuals but what about other things like realism and flight moddeling?

At any rate my impression is that the Milviz or Realair suggestions are better choices than the Carenado.

Sigh. *Seems* like most of the people that have bought it have hangared it. I don't have any 210 time so I can't say if the model is right. The model presented is much more difficult to flare than your typical Cessna. I bought it for IFR training but I was not comfortable breaking out of a 200 foot ceiling and trying to get it properly on the ground. See this thread.

Carenado let me trade it for the 337 which is rock solid.

Gregg

Thanks Gregg, good to know.

Does anyone know if there is an alternate FDE around for a 210?

Did Bernt ever try and redo the FDE? Guess not otherwise we wouldn't have this problem....

Thanks lee

Yes I think the C208 is the only Carenado that I will eventually buy since I wan't a Cessna Caravan. Do you also have the cargo expansion pack? Wonder if that only is a new livery without windows? Regarding the real thing is the only difference that they have removed the windows?

Regarding RXP GPS one problem I see is that I need to manually enter the flightplan instead of having it automatically inserted when loading a flight plan as in the default GPS.

Yep. Just as in the real world. Plus and minus - though for me the plus WAY outweighs the minus.

Yes, but I recall that his request for real world pilot feedback didn't result in enough valid input.

Better how and based on what? I love my the Milviz B55 and my RealAir planes, but I also love several of my Carenado planes.

The Milviz B55 has excellent flight modeling. But then so do most of my recent Carenados.

I was hoping for Microsoft Points. Wait, no, I didn't. But seriously, it was Dollar for me and the 29.99 included the taxes. That's pretty inexpensive for the Baron and her qualities.

When it comes to the system details or just the lower bug rate (if there is such a term) with 1.0 releases, all Realair or Milviz planes win hands down over any Carenado plane of mine. But you saw me praising some of them, so this may not tell the whole story. Take the Carenado JetProp for example, still in serious need for user mods, but such a cool plane for me and also not available at any other dev. And Carenado does good, even on the FDE on the latest things. Not so much on the bug free state.

On the Baron case, the Carenado represents a later model, 58, but the older 55 from Milviz looks better to me. That's from the reports and reviews, I don't own the Carenado Baron. Systems, FDE, optics, nothing to complain on the Milviz. To be precise, a lot to applaud to in those chapters. Great release!

Realair. Still beautiful Dukes and surely amazing Lance. I've actually bought the Lance a few days ago, but just checked if she installs correctly. Still working on the Milviz Baron so far, which I've bought the same day. One after another, both are great I think. Mind the higher Realair price when compared to Carenado and Milviz. With taxes, the Lance came in at 48 USD for me.

For the OP, perhaps looking for classic planes, the older Dukes might be a better choice. The Lance represents a high performance kit plane. Thrilling, same as the even more powerful Orbx Lance IV-P, but maybe not in the same regime as some good old Beech Baron. Well, if it was after me, get them all.
