The End of Flight?

Featured Replies

But by making the game so "childish" by letting us do arcady unrealistic missions in a very tiny non-living world, makes the "sim" totally useless for us serious flight simmers. If it covered the whole world like in FSX, if it featured AI traffic, AI cars and boats, navaids, all airports, then this would be a dream.

Ok I will agree with most of what you said - but the above is where I take some offense.

I am a serious flight simmer, have been for more years than I care to remember. I currently have 6 flight sims installed on my computer, most of which are extremely complex.

I did not find Flight childesh, I happened to enjoy some of those missions - and while the world may have been tiny in comparison, I got many hours of great enjoyment in that tiny world.

Your view is very subjective, and should not be construed as factual. I know there are more that hold the same view, but realize there are more that also hold the same view of Flight as I do , that have enjoyed it very much, and statements as the above have the connotation of bashing their views.

I do believe however, if the plug had not been pulled and it had been successful, it would have matured more into a product that folks such as yourself would have probably enjoyed.

Serously?

You are happy that Flight has been killed, even though as evidenced on this forum and elsewhere, there are many that enjoyed it very much. I guess because it was not for you though, that makes you happy?

I guess your happy that some folks may have just lost their job? Folks passionate about developing for the flight sim community?

MS learned a lesson and working on a new sim - I am sure you mean like FS11?

I hate to burst your bubble - odds are extremely high that will never happen!

But enjoy your time here...

I have noticed that. Now that its over, people are piling in a bit saying such things, and, in many if not all cases, it seems to be a wild lashing out. Flight was garbage! Arcade poo! An abortion! Microsoft toy! Glad its gone! All heedless of the people working diligently at Microsoft, many of them pilots themselves and stalwarts from Aces, and likely as dedicated as any 3PD producer, trying with the resources given to create a next generation program, only to read spewed venom day after day.

Those people are now rearranging their lives, and still people stop in just parcel out just a few more saved up slaps.

I will never understand. Is that who this community is? What is the necessity, at this point?

If true, will you shut the forum?

Yeah - I don't think this forum will close down anytime soon, as long as there are Flight users that remain active in this forum. Unless it degrades into what it was like at one time, prior to the release of Flight - should that happen I have a feeling they won't hesitate to close it up.

Thing with FLIGHT is, it's got so much potential, graphically, plug-and-playability, in terms of flight dynamics, in terms of how easy it is to use, and how stable it is, gives the game so much potential. But as I said earlier, game developers are starting to focus more and more on making money (which is somehow understandable), and they actually don't care that much about the customer's needs.

I didn't find the missions in Flight all that unrealistic or "arcady". Sure they weren't as sophisticated as some of the more advanced FSX missions but I could appreciate what they were trying to do with Flight and some of the missions were interesting and educational like the one where you took a photographer through Pearl Harbor, etc. I was really hoping they would continue in this vein with Alaska, etc. because I think missions can make a sim pretty interesting, but alas...

There were several inactive forums just recently closed I believed, so I wanted to make sure.

EDIT

And never mind again. I'm off to bed.

Yeah - I don't think this forum will close down anytime soon

Just to confirm:

As long as forum is alive, discussions going on, new threads etc, it will stay open.

Indeed. I notice there are quite a few members posting in this Flight forum that never posted here before: I wonder what they are doing here.

Yes, I have noticed the count of those viewing this forum, has risen quite dramatically since yesterday, many more members, and many more guests. Probably as many as when Flight was released, if not more... lot of new names - to this forum- popping in here now.

And btw here in the states, we call them " rubberkneckers".

Thanks Word Not Allowed, great to hear confirmation! I would miss this forum greatly should it go away.

Ha, you quoted me before I edited my post. I am having a hard time not saying what's on my mind. I don't think I have typed so many posts without actually posting them as during the last two days.

"Rubberkneckers" sounds just as good as "ramptoeristen".

I didn't find the missions in Flight all that unrealistic or "arcady".

It wasn't the missions themselves that made it "arcady", it was the holding for ransom liveries until missions were completed, or level of play reached that made it "arcady". It was one thing to do this with the models in the free demo, but to continue the practice for products you purchased was over the top. If I pay for something I want unhindered access to it, without having to jump through hoops to do it.

Thanks

... for us serious flight simmers.

Please educate me, what is a "serious flight simmer"? What or where is the definition? Is a "serious flight simmer" more or less than a hardcore flight simmer? By what qualitative value?

I have my own definition for what I think you refer to, but I'd like you to share your thoughts. If you would be kind enough?

... and they actually don't care that much about the customer's needs.

Customers don't have needs, they have wants. There is a BIG difference between need and want. You need food. You want a steak. You need fluids. You want an ice tea. Some people have bigger WANTS than others. That doesn't make them any more or any less important. Unless they are a "serious flight simmer"?

it was the holding for ransom liveries until missions were completed, or level of play reached that made it "arcady".

Did I miss something??

And the Phrase "People who continue to pretend" does not marginalize the feelings of all who may feel differently than you? Bit one sided hmmmmm....

I would have said it directly to the poster I quoted in my response, but doing so would be immediately labeled as an "attack" and would likely result in getting banned. I learned the hard way that you're not allowed to have an honest-to-goodness disagreement around here.

And no, making a innocuous generalization about how certain segments of the community view flight is NOT the same as labeling someone's reasoned, coherent, and valid position as "hate". Just because I have a negative view of something does not mean I am "hateful", or that my words represent "hate". The implication is that my (and other's) words are not worthy of consideration, and should be dismissed out-of-hand. That's not right.

It's possible to disagree with something without "hating" it.

I would miss this forum greatly should it go away.

I don't think Flight forum is a bad forum, but I think it's the most prone forum for disasters. Just look at this topic - I can't tell you how many hours I have already spent reading all the posts, watching over you guys

The problem is that many people here are very emotional talking about a very emotional subject, which is bleeding greatly right now.

I think everyone should just take a small step or even two back and rethink twice before they post. On past two pages I've seen couple of posts which make my quite trigger-happy.

Please guys, keep it calm (not pointing fingers at anyone... yet).
