July 29, 201213 yr No, not me. I am staying up to the last moment. I'm already the last person in the ProPilot forum - take a look if you don't believe it! :lol: And I guess that Lance and Bob and Steve and some others will stick around. And all of you that shared in the good times these last few months are certainly welcome back anytime when you get bored with your new sim (or when new Flight DLC is released! ) We shall be a smaller, more tightly-knit group here , but we can still have lots of fun. We shall fill this forum with jokes, pictures of pretty girls, beer and ... the Cub! You will laugh because you are a good-humored crowd, but I just got the Cub with a working panel today. Now, that all of you have junked yours. :rofl: I had some serious problems with the GFWL Marketplace - it just wouldn't let me purchase the darn thing. I have spent the last three days trying to find a solution, repeatedly talking to XBox Support, trying different things. Finally, today, I booted into Ubuntu instead of Windows 7, launched Chrome instead of Firefox, and completed the purchase and downloaded in about a minute and a half! Goodness, weren't computers supposed to make things easier? I have been using them for close to 40 years and it has always been like this. This is the first thing I noticed about the Cub: Do you see it? Do you see it? No? It's got a registration (N) number. I noticed because I particularly asked for that change from the team. Now, if Jeroen were still coming to this forum, he would say, "Sorry to burst your bubble and rain on your parade," and then he would immediately proceed to burst my bubble and rain on my parade (what are friends for? :rofl: ), "but the devs didn't need you to think of putting an N number on an airplane." Could be. But, unlike many of you, the only "gamey" thing I found about Flight was the lack of registrations on the aircraft. So, this made me happy. Thanks to the artists and modelers who cared (even if they didn't need me to remind them.) The Cub looks pretty nice, although when I get some time, I intend to repaint all the airplanes in my personal colors. I'm not so sure about the panel, though. Maybe I have been flying for too long without one - since the release of Alaska, the Cub has become my most used airplane, replacing the RV in Hawai'i Aero Club livery (those are my personal colors.) And who really needs a panel on a Cub anyway? Or maybe it's just what they say - as you get older, you start to regress in age. Perhaps I have become a 15-year old gamer, after all. :lol: So, as far as I'm concerned, all this can go from the panel: No nav radio or head, couldn't care less about the Artificial Horizon, the Airspeed, the Altimeter, the XPonder, in fact, I could even get by without the RPM (just listen to the engine for that.) The Moving Map is cute, but that's all. Oh, well, I'm not complaining (what's the point of that? Either live with it or do something else.) And the execution is really flawless, a beautiful job. Congratulations to the modelers and artists. I particularly like details like this: The panel lighting makes me laugh, but it's so practical, and the fuel gauge shows the mastery of the modelers, beautiful work. The Cub handles very nicely, as I noticed when landing. I've got a tailwind on this landing, because I realized that often the large trees obstructing the approach are due to coming in the wrong runway. It's a problem with winds, I suppose, so I shall have to study Alaska weather and then pick the most appropriate Weather Theme that will let me land on the correct runway. I just hope that Theme isn't Dense Fog! :lol: It will be, though, won't it? I've almost forgotten how to use checklists, it's been all of a month without them, so there's one more thing I need to start using again. Anyway, for the three or four people who are still here enjoying Flight, I hope you liked my little story. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
July 29, 201213 yr There are more than that. I have not been able to make myself actually play flight again, yet, but the interest is still there, it just has to shine through the disappointment. Its going to take a while for many of us to recover, and maneuvering through the gloaters who have descended is not fun either, so the forum itself loses some of its sense of "friendly space" Its going to take a bit. July 29, 201213 yr I'm still here and I really enjoyed your story and the pics. I'm looking forward to many more hours of loving the Cub and plan to stay here to catch more tips and tales.
July 29, 201213 yr The Cub is extremely fun to fly, isn't it? You could get rid of all the panel clutter by running GMap and moving it to the bottom center of your screen. I have not been able to make myself actually play flight again, yet, but the interest is still there, I've done a little flying, but not the 4 hours a day I was doing previously. Oddly enough, I've forgotten about the aerocache of the day twice now... but still remembered in time to go get them. In fact, I need to do that right now. :) Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
July 29, 201213 yr During the first 24 hours after "the announcement", I didn't think I'd play Flight anymore. So much disappointment. I thought it would always feel unfinished. What a bummer... I then went about rebuilding my FSX Hawaii and Alaska scenery installs... and then... looked at them in-game. Yuck! I still have everything I paid for with Flight - 5 (maybe 6 soon) relatively diverse (as far a single engine GA planes go...) planes with great flight models and cockpits and the best looking Hawaii and Alaska ever made for a flight sim. So I have decided to stick with Flight for all my Hawaii and Alaska needs. I'll use FSX for ORBX stuff*. So I'll still be around. Maybe not as active, but I'll be around.. * Believe it or not both Flight and FSX have co-existed on my HD for several months now with destroying each other. Who woulda' thought?
July 29, 201213 yr Luis I enjoyed your post and the pictures. I guess some will remain here for quite some time. I’m sure you are aware that many of us here were betas (what a joke) and still remain here. In fact some of us are so stubborn we keep going to the beta site just for kicks. If, big IF, they provide some more DLC and it suits us, then I guess this site will reactivate and remain active for some time. How long? I don’t know. * Believe it or not both Flight and FSX have co-existed on my HD for several months now with destroying each other. Who woulda' thought? You are quite right. I am refurbishing my old FSX installation and will use both for a long time. (Still have FS9 and FS2004 installed on a spare drive, all I need is to plug it) Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
July 29, 201213 yr I keep thinking that if the code was open, even at this impasse, the nucleus of a new community would form fairly rapidly around this sim. Then Luis really could paint his plane. Dreams and missed opportunity's. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. July 29, 201213 yr I was flying three hours a day minimum for the last three months, over 300 hrs on Flight. I shut it off on Wednesday to find the headlines of death, took me until this morning to fly again.....first thing I did was buy the Cub......4 hrs in that thing today. Looks like my 225hrs in the Maule will become second fiddle.
July 29, 201213 yr nice pics - and story! I bought Alaska on the Steam sale, so far have had time to fly the Stearman from the southernmost airport to the one north of it...nope, not a lot at all, compared to Hawaii. Work and wife demands have increased lately, so not a lot of spare time. My big disappointment is that a helicopter was never released... So - count me in on this forum, the pretty women, and most definitely the beer!

Dreams and missed opportunity's. Yeah, I'm dreaming foolishly here, but if the devs would have provided the Flight community with a nice little gift of a scenery maker/aircraft painting "tool" as a parting gift before they are forced to move on just think of what all the freeware hobbyists could have done with Flight! July 29, 201213 yr I'm not leaving just yet. I actually flew the Cub this evening, from Valdez through Thompson Pass then up to Gulkana. I felt the magic again, although it's not what it was, as the scenery problems stand out more now that I know they will never be fixed. The Cub really is a great little plane, and I do plan to keep flying Jobs with it. Although I expect to be reinstalling FSX sometime soon and trying some high-end payware (considering ORBX PNW and the RealAir Legacy), I'm also going to keep exploring Flight's Alaska, for some time, I think. I'm ranging further away from my home-base at Kenai now, so I may move on to Unalakleet soon. I want to try the Flying Wild Alaska flight-plans being posted to the Steam Forum, anyway. So, don't turn out the lights just yet.
July 29, 201213 yr Were that to actually be a problem, I have no doubt that either a solution would be hacked together (desperation breeds innovation) or people would just not upgrade their PC's. back on topic, I am going to try to make myself play again a bit tonight or tomorrow...... maybe.
