August 5, 201312 yr When running the tool the first time, it showed that even some road textures in UTX missed the alpha channel, hence resulting in stutters I guess when looking out the cockpit window. I then ran the tool fixing this issue and I clearly have less (micro) stutters. So thank you Peter! Menno i7-11700, 16GB, 1 TB SSD, 2 TB HDD, RTX 3070, Windows 11, MSFS 2020 DeLuxe, P3D 4.5
August 5, 201312 yr What about using this for ultimate traffic 2? Likely to improve fps? Also I have addon converter x...I'm assuming that does something different than this program...is that right? Thanks Alex M AMD 5830X Nvidia RTX 3060 Win 11
August 5, 201312 yr What about using this for ultimate traffic 2? Likely to improve fps? Also I have addon converter x...I'm assuming that does something different than this program...is that right? Thanks Alex M Use this tool per Nick N: To repair the issues with the UT2 aircraft textures, follow this outline. BE SURE to follow this correctly! After installing UT2 and all the schedules and updated livery graphics a. Download and unzip this file: http://gex.flight1.net/forumimages/UT2_MipMap.zip b. Open the UT2 MipMap.cfg file in NOTEPAD then click in the notepad menu EDIT: then REPLACE in the FIND WHAT box, place this text exactly as posted: ENTER PATH TO FSX HERE In the REPLACE WITH box, enter the exact path to your Flight Simulator folder install directory. Type the EXACT PATH and directory name in the REPLACE WITH box: EXAMPLES: If you installed FSX to the directory D:\FSX then type that exact path/directory name into the ‘REPLACE WITH’ box If you installed FSX to the directory D:\Flightsim X then type that exact path/directory name into the ‘REPLACE WITH’ box c. Once you have confirmed the correct path to FSX on your system has been entered click REPLACE ALL d. Once complete close the search box and then save and close the UT2 MipMap.cfg e. Right click the UT2 MipMap.cfg and select RENAME change the EXTENSION from .cfg to .bat f. DOUBLE CLICK or RUN the UT2 MipMap.bat file. This operation will take some time to complete. Let it run until finished. You have now completed setting up UT2 and fixing the graphics issues. August 5, 201312 yr I've used both DXTFixer and MipMap thing without any errors, and a couple of months earlier too. So it seems perfectly safe to use. Mark
August 5, 201312 yr It's actually very rare that an addon comes with every texture in tip top condition. More often that you'd think there are some with this alpha channel problem. Even a fresh install of P3D has some problems with some aircraft textures. If you haven't used dxtFixerX before, then what you should do is point it to the root folder of your FS9/FSX/P3D installation an just let it run through everything. It'll take a while but when it's done you'll get a list of textures that has the alpha channel bug. Now run it again but uncheck the "Just report bad files" and let it accually fix the files this time. Always check any new addons you install and let it fix any bad files it finds. You'll enjoy a smoother more stutter free flight.

August 5, 201312 yr It's a bit interesting to note the default files in a (mostly) virgin FSX + Acceleration installation are w/o the Alpha flag set: Looks a lot like my list! ^_^ I had just a few files more with errors. There can also be MipMap errors, so I have read in the Avsim guide but I am not sure how to fix them because you have to set options (DXT1 or 3 or 5 for instance, and that's with another program). However, the amount of errors is very small (just like with DxtFixer) that I can hardly imagine it will have an effect to repair things... It certainly won't change a stuttering sim into a smooth one... ^_^
August 5, 201312 yr Commercial Member Just ran dxtfixerx, the app found about 50 textures without alpha (mostly Aerosoft's). Loaded FSX and it's smooth as a butter again, nice. I'm running it in dx10 mode. Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
