Tweak guide for XPX such as Kosta's for FSX?

Featured Replies

Is there a nice guide on how to properly setup and configure XFX just as Word Not Allowed's tweak for FSX?

I want to give the demo a try but seeing how there are so many options as far as display options, I was quite overwhelmed.

What would be the proper way to set it up for one's particular system? My PC stats are under my profile.

Thanks!

With THAT system....you're wanting to tweak X Plane???

I dream about systems like that.

That setup is an X Plane users heaven.

You'll have very few problems...even if settings are near max WITH HDR enabled.

Hello Efrain,

If you go to Settings/Rendering Options/ in the lower right hand corner there is a button to,"set all rendering options for maximum speed!". It is generally recommended to hit that button and it will set the sim to the absolute lowest settings it has. Then go through all the settings one at a time, finding which options give the best and or the worst performance. This is a long and tedious process. With your specs, (you don't list your cpu but I would suspect you have an i7 in the 3000k category if not an extreme. So I would bet you can run about everything you want without too many problems, just as GoranM said. If you do set everything to minimum you will probably get FPS in the 300 but it will look completely awful, start with texture resolution to extreme res at least then try everything else. My Core 2 duo is only 3Ghz and I can get a good 20fps at the Seattle default scenery, and runs smooth. away form Seattle I can get in the high 30 to low 40 FPS just to give you an idea.

Hope you like it. There is a bit of a learning curve coming from FSX but if you say with it and learn the system it will soon make sense. I have been with MSFS since back in the 1980's and I get along with either of these sims OK, currently I stay mostly with X-Plane.

LOL I hear you but even then, I still want to maximize performance and not run things that will hurt performance while providing minimum benefits.

Hello friend (on Tapatalk and can't see your real name lol),

Yes, I have an i7-3770K OC'ed to 5.0Ghz... I thought I had listed it on my stats. Gotta double check that.

Thanks for the help, I will give it a try. I will start with the basics and then start bumping up the essentials such as IQ settings (textures, visibilities, etc) until I find a point where the returns are minimal when compared to the impact.

If it matters anything at all, I will try to run XPX with XPUIPC and Sim-Avionics. I am building a full size B737-800NG home cockpit, so if I can get the eye candy and fluidity of XPX along with my home cockpit, I think I will have a winner!

XPUIPC is very useful but there seems to be a bug when you use a VA ACARS software to record a flight; the local time gets screwed up at the destination airport and is often several hours off.

Hi Efrain,

I agree with Goran, with that system (which sounds awesome by the way) you probably wont need to tweak that much. I find it very different to FSX in that regard especially if you have a system like mine ( which you don't) a core i7 920 @ 2.66 not Oc'ed with an ATI 4870 gpu and 6gb ram, its a bit of a relic system these days. However, i strangely get some pretty solid frames with XPX, with the new 10.10r2 ive managed to keep HDR on and get about 25fps (fluctuating to 20), if I can manage that with mine then i cant imagine you'll need to tweak anything! You lucky man.

Your full size 737-800 cockpit sounds good. Im designing a Diamond DA40 with a G1000 at the moment using flythissim software. Simpit builders using x-plane would have been a niche within a niche many months ago, but with XPX gaining in popularity I think you'll see many more people using it as a basis for a cockpit. Its actually very, very good out of the box for this purpose.

The only advice I can give you is to enable NVIDIA Adaptive VSync 1/2 refresh rate (for 60HZ). XP10 runs very smooth with 30FPS (which your system will provide) and you get much less stutters than running with higher but altering FPS. The only serious performance hit for a high- end system is HDR with 4xSSAA instead of FXAA. Everything else will have only slight effect on FPS with each "step up".

I used to tweak more than fly with FSX, I'm glad it's the other way around with XP10 ;)

Not worried about that. I don't use or even plan to use VA ACARS. Thanks for the heads up, though.

Thanks guys... Gonna give it a shot today and see how it goes.

Hi FloB

You say you use nVidia adaptive VSync at 1/2 refresh rate for 60 Mhz monitor, do you have to set the option in X-Plane's rendering menu to use half the monitors refresh rate?

Simon

Do any of you X-plane users have experience with running at least three monitors from one PC (Nvidia 680 or equiv) to get a widescreen outside view? A highend PC on FSX can get maybe 40 fps on all three using an aircraft with a simple virtual cockpit and minimal traffic.

PC=9700K@5Ghz+RTX2070  VR=HP Reverb|   Software = Windows 10 | Flight SIms = P3D, CAP2, DCS World, IL-2,  Aerofly FS2

I think this warrants it's own thread, instead of jihading this one. LOL

No, I leave X-plane settings untouched and use only the NVIDIA driver setting. You have to have one of the latest drivers since this feature was introduced with the 6XX generation, but it works with almost any NVIDIA card. It's the last feature within the 3D-settings of the NVIDIA control center. There you can choose "Adaptive (1/2 refresh rate)".

Hope this helps

Flo B.

Just use the same settings as FSX and adjust from there. Works for me. I find XP needs a little more on the AA than I find in FSX.

Thanks for that Flo.

I have tried it and it and unfortunately it doesn't improve things for me.

I do think the latest drivers from nVidia have given a nice improvement though.

Bad luck. It' a great helps if your rig is able to push 30+ FPS in XP10 for at least 95% of the time, if your FPS are in the twenties it doesn't do anything.
