Windows 8 and PMDG

Featured Replies

If anything, I think it'll be an issue of FSX versus Win 8.

FSX works fine in the Windows 8 environment... I just don't like the OS overall lol

So far I'm satisfied with WIN8 and always amused how many rumours are out there.

It's working fine with everything I have, except the QW146.

BUT, I have encountered the joystick issue also, Matt postet above.

But I have made a lot of test, registry hacks, and so on, to try things out. I have reinstalled now everything and will have a look the next weeks if this error comes up again!

Beside an overall faster OS, there is no gain for FSX. So if you think to change for a better FSX it will not be worth it.

The OS itself is very good in my opinion with some good features.

And I do not talk here about the (formerly called) Metro menue, because if anybody still thinks that's WIN8 and you do not have a desktop anymore then ...ok ...

If the update offer for $40 is true, then it might be worth it.

I've been using the release preview for work, and getting used to it.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

I'm with ya. As long as Win7 is stable for me, I see no reason to go upgrade unless there are proven benefits and solid post-release stats.

There are none...

I even talked to a computer salesman at my local Microcenter and essentially, he said that Win8 was not going to sell well. - He anticipates Win7 will be around for a long time.

Be carefull with Windows 8.

QW 146 is working not as good as it should do, GSX (and/or the addonmanager fsdreamteam) is giving big problems, squackbox4 isn't working very well, and FSX turns very easy into a CTD, mouse and joystick causes problems, etc.

Well, It is not officialy out so no updates and problemssolving has started. So no hard feelings to microsoft at this time.

But on my computer it gives a little bit more fps and there are no problems with the NGX.

Still, I'm no specialist, but I advise to wait untill october.

And the metro menu..welll..back to flying

That's the kind of rumour I meant ^_^

QW 146 is working not as good as it should do,

Correct, only addon which is not working

GSX is giving big problems,

No, is working here without problems

squackbox4 isn't working very well,

I don't know, don't use it

and FSX turns very easy into a CTD,

Haven't had one the last weeks since I've installed WIN8

Had not much before with WIN7, too

mouse and joystick causes problems, etc.

not one little issue with mouse or keyboard.

With joysticks yes, as they disappear in FSX, but you can still fly and after a restart of FSX there are back again.

So, from 5 rumours, there are 1,5 left ...

I've heard horror stories regarding Win8 and overclocking. Perfectly stable OC'ed Win7 boxes would become very unstable and bluescreen with Win8. Maybe MS will have these issues ironed out prior to the RTM but for now I'll happily stay with Win7.

Did you consider the overclock to be the issue? It screws with the processor in ways you wouldn't imagine. Win 8 is sensitive to timing problems by the sound of it. It's called "problem" because that is what it is, and it is caused by the overclock. That alone does not make Win 8 rubbish, but it does say a lot about overclocking. ;)

Best regards,

Robin.

Squawkbox works just fine on Windows 8 and in terms of CTD for FSX - Isn't that pretty much normal anyway until you apply some fixes? Once you've sorted all that out it runs just as well as it would on Windows 7.

Ah, good to hear I'm dealing the last two weeks with rumours.

Sorry, but I can only tell what my experiences are.

Good to hear it works perfect for others.
