September 26, 201213 yr http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20120925182831_Intel_Discontinues_Core_i_Sandy_Bridge_Microprocessors.html No immediate effect of course, but within a few months it will be quite difficult to obtain a new Sandy Bridge chip so if you're thinking about a new chip and don't want to bother with Ivy Bridge, better act fast.
September 26, 201213 yr As for me, I am looking forward to upgrading to the i7 3770K ivy bridge chip Craig
September 27, 201213 yr Sandy Bridge still rocks, This 2700K is amazing, easily remaining stable and relatively cool at a blazingly fast 5.4Ghz. However, it usually put-puts along at 5.0Ghz with low Vcore and 40-50C max on air when running normally with FSX. The Ivy bridge 3770K just isn't good enough to top that methinks. Perhaps the next batch may be more interesting and worth a new build. Kind regards,
September 27, 201213 yr This 2700K is amazing, easily remaining stable and relatively cool at a blazingly fast 5.4Ghz. What?!?!?!?!? :shok: :shok: I guess pigs fly now!! :LMAO: Seriously, that is a wicked insane overclock... lol
September 27, 201213 yr I'm buying a spare or two. It's my opinion we will never see a better CPU for performance purposes as the shift is to efficiency and miniaturization not performance and understandably. just look at those drooling over FS Ipad and the like apps.
September 27, 201213 yr Rendi... That is a good idea... Payday is Friday and I may just do that for my Ivy... ^_^ Just in case I roast it... or OC too much.... Good thinking. Jeff NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!

Jeff LOL Wait for me, not before they all get sold out. There very well could be a run on them. I'm "shopping now" as we speak. Ive never hord anything, even Y2K, But I might now.
September 27, 201213 yr I'm glad I just bought a 2700K. Not yet fitted but looking forward to 5Ghz+. The 2600K has a good home to go to having run at 4.7Ghz max for 21 months. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
September 27, 201213 yr I'm buying at least one 2700k for backup, it's amazing! And i can confirm that about low temps, i have mine 2700k runing at 5GHz on air, and i get max 69c with FSX(last flight max temps per cores: 50, 63, 68, 63). I can't see Ivy reaching 5GHz on air, or any other chip... Sad news from intel... Zeljko Budovic
September 27, 201213 yr Author My temps are lower @ 4.9GHz on Ivy Granted I had to go through a lot of work to get it there, but it was worth it! As for 5GHz stability on air with Ivy, it can be done and I'm sure has been. I can't do it with mine because the chip is too hungry for voltage, but my particular sample of Ivy isn't very good as I need 1.5V for 4.9GHz. A chip that only needs 1.4V for 5GHz could definitely be done on air. But that's beside the point, as a 5GHz Ivy Bridge is measurably faster than a 5GHz Sandy Bridge. Ivy only needs about 4.7GHz to match a 5GHz Sandy.
September 28, 201213 yr Ivy only needs about 4.7GHz to match a 5GHz Sandy. (Offtopic ) If Haswell could be as good of an OCer as SB, we would see some significant enough performance jumps to call for an upgrade from current SB users. Haswell is expected to have 15-20% improvements per clock over IB. IB is 10% better than SB.....therefore, Haswell could potentially be 30% faster clock for clock than SB. In theory: (speculative numbers) Haswell @ 4.5GHZ = SandyBridge @ 5+GHZ
September 28, 201213 yr Steven is this exactly what you have please?....John Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623i72700K
