October 20, 201213 yr Commercial Member As the title says, this thing is so FAST and SMOOTH, that I can't believe it's not butter! Being the adventurous type, I just had to give DX10 a shot and boy was I missing out on the fun... I went ahead and deleted my FSX install and got rid of every trace of it, including all addons. I then installed FSX | Acceleration and followed the HOW-TO from this forum on a fresh install and I was blown away. The FLUIDITY is simply amazing, along with better water and overall IQ, when compared to DX9. And I have to keep reminding myself this is only on a stock FSX. So I can't wait to install UTX. Actually, I will install UTX ONLY for the NIGHTLIGHTING. As for the settings, here are the custom fsx.cfg entries I am using: [Display] TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30 WideViewAspect=True [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1 DisablePreload=1 //Completely got rid of vsync tearing on MY system [Weather] CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=10 [GRAPHICS] MultiSamplesPerPixel=4 MultiSampleQuality=8 HIGHMEMFIX=1 [TERRAIN] LOD_RADIUS=6.500000 [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680.0.0] Mode=1280x720x32 Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 [bufferPools] BufferPools=0 [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 I am also using BLOOM and now I feel like I have a whole new sim. FSX never looked better and like I said before, this is only on a stock install of FSX. I can't imagine how much better it will look with addons such as UTX, REX/AS, etc... Here are my in-game sliders and nVidia Inspector settings: As you can see, almost all sliders are full-right. My traffic AI is completely disabled because I am into flying, not sightseeing. I couldn't care less about AI planes flying around me and eating up cycles which could be used for other things such as clouds and keeping FPS steady at 30FPS. I just wanted to share my settings for those still debating whether to jump on the DX10 bandwagon or not. Thanks to everyone involved and responsible for making FSX DX10 a reality and something viable. PS. I also disabled all 3D virtual cockpits and stuff, because I am building a full size 737NG cockpit, so there is no need for a VC in my setup. Only need a full front outside view. ;-) Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
October 20, 201213 yr Sssshhh ! Not so loud! Everyone will want to fly DX10! Actually, Efrain - you might shout this over in the FSX forum. There are people there who still pooh-pooh this! Same over at FlightSim.com: same at Orbx's forum! Seriously, man - I'm real happy for you. Isn't it great! You've done the donkey work needed to make it work. Of course - now you have to make a video! i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
October 20, 201213 yr Efrain, congrats on joining the Dx-10 club. You have some serious HORSEPOWER with that 680. Would love to see some pics when you get finished with the build. Jamie Jamie Moses
October 21, 201213 yr Efrain.....Paul forgot to mentioned P3D....since I don't have it and you do about a little comparaison just for fun... :p0503:
October 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member Have you guys able to beat the white airport texture issue for AI aircraft, or what I'm more interested in is the aircraft that show on VATSIM (FSINN). October 21, 201213 yr Yeppers... Us DX10'ers are at a slightly higher altitude then everyone else... I pity the little people.
October 21, 201213 yr Please sire... alms for the poor.... alms for the poor.... :p0126: still looking into the DX10 thing.... Maybe someday.... If my system can handle it Jeff NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!
October 21, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member What's really amazing is the amount of autogen trees and building being displayed now with sliders full right and yet the sim is as smooth as a 90 year old's gums. lol Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
October 21, 201213 yr I noted you have turned off 'Aircraft casts shadows on itself'. The setting allows for shadows on the wings and inside the cockpit. I remember when I reinstalled FSX on a new system and everything was fast and smooth until I added MyTrafficX. FSX loads everything enabled in the Scenery Library whether you use it or not and I had a really fast and smooth system even with several FSDT airports, FTX/Orbix scenery and MegaScenery installed. But AI traffic is the killer. Enjoy! Thanks for posting your settings too. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! Reason I have them off is because I have no use for them since I'm building a full size B737NG cockpit. All I need are the views without any VC or aircraft parts. October 21, 201213 yr Thanks Efrain for the explanation. Yikes! That will be nice! Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 22, 201213 yr I'm building a full size B737NG cockpit Hmmm... well you could still simulate the shadows... just have a couple back lit people moving around (with window frames similar to the airplanes) behind you. They will have to follow the angle of the sun to get it right... so long as you dont do any loops... it can be done.

I know I'm happy to not have to worry about CTD's while flying anymore nor do I have strange artifacts or other issues when panning or changing views. Too bad MS stopped development as I suspect a lot of the work you guys have done would have probably been part of a proper MS service pack. Oh well, back to flying  Chris Magnus HR Manager Air Jamaica Virtual Airlines and Cargo (http://www.airjamaicavirtualairlinesandcargo.org)
