Sure, I see. If you can afford it, great. As I said, I have nothing really against ActiveSky either. It has been a great program. It still has the true winds aloft that Opus is lacking - for now anyway. Opus is working on that so soon that will no longer be an advantage of AS.

Now with Opus, it's sort of amazing that all these other weather engines have only done things one way(global weather) for so long and it's amazing the difference that taking Opus' approach has meant. It's like one of those "A ha" moments and now I can't imagine weather any other way than with Opus. Even without accurate winds aloft, it's just an awesome experience to fly now.

Thanks guys, noted, competition in this market is really spawning some great products, now we just need rewritten FSX code... In danger of moving further OT, do you have experience with flying VATSIM and getting weather from / through SB or FSInn? How would / could that work with AS / Opus?

I have not done any online flying. So, no experience at all with VATSIM or how it does its weather. I do know that you only would want one weather engine updating the weather, whether that be VATSIM/SB/FSInn or AS or Opus. Just one of those otherwise, at the very least, you'd have very eratic weather and I would think wouldn't be very stable for FS either.

I had to disable wx on FSInn. I had problems with the PMDG MD-11 and the plane have EGT temp problems and not being able to climb properly. The winds aloft are not totally correct but what I have done and it may not be the right thing to do but I would close Opus and restart it and that would change the winds.

As an example during the CTP event last Saturday I noticed a head wind shortly after leaving the coast, I quickly restarted Opus and go the proper tailwind. Of course I turned off 'aircraft stress causes damage' in the realism options and I don't think that works right anyways.

Are you SURE you guys aren't Opus employees ;) Ok you've got my interest piqued pretty good now. Been a happy ASE/REX user for a while, but this sounds like a must try. Any 'gotcha's to be aware of on setup and configuration? Gonna give it a try when I get back to my sim machine.

It is one of the easiest programs you'll ever have as far as set up goes. Again though, I have only used it for the live weather engine(LWE) part. That is literally as simple as checking a checkbox to turn it on. There are settings you can play with that deal with how frequent updates occur and the depiction of certain weather(mist layers and such) if you want to change those. But, out of the box, it is really easy. I haven't tried configuring the cameras or AHM/DHM yet but I think there is a guid here on Avsim for that and/or in the Opus forum I'm sure.

And, no, I'm not an employee at all. This, to me, is one of those game changers in FSX that I feel is worth promoting though. It is one of those "must haves" for FSX, IMO!!! And, again, with the support you get along with it, well, how can you not get behind people like Cheryl and Stephen that not only can create such a great program but then also go that extra mile to help people in using it and making it better. Again, one of the best add ons I've ever bought for FS! :)

Ok super, and thanks for the heads up and mini review of the program. Can't wait to try it out now!

IMHO, I think you will find the DHM far more realistic than EZCA.

My next step is setting up the camera. I spent time with EZCA but it started to annoy me so I got rid of it. Perhaps tonight....

And no not an employee hahaha this is just a groundbreaking addon. This should be considered a must have product.

Does it work with Ideal Flight X?

When you want real world weather with IF, just uncheck the weather settings and build your flight, this will leave the weather up to Opus when FSX starts.

I like the cameras in EZ, I dont like TrackIR and use numeric keys to change cam. Fluid and smooth. I must admit I have not much interest in seeing the plane from the outside. What will Opus do better for me in that respect do you think? I fancy the WX though ;-)

More user friendly camera set up feature, should gain a couple of FPS or so. If you want the best transition smoothness, you will have to download the latest Beta though. (Not sure but i think you have to purchase Opus to get your hands on the Beta versions)

Ok, I can't stand it any more. I was getting ready to buy Opus, then I seen that REX is promoting a new version, so I waited. They haven't released the new version for "Overdrive" yet , but I installed the new regular version.

One think that I am frustrated with in REX is the fact that it takes forever to load it's weather. I want to get in and fly, not wait for weather to load for twenty minutes.

How is Opus in setting up its weather engine when it starts? How long does it take before you are ready to fly into real weather?

Also, how is the camera program in Opus, compared to EZdok Camera? I assume the cameras are optimized for TrackIR, do they set up easy?

I know that you cannot use Opus and EZCA. One has to be shut off when the other is on. Does Opus work while DBS Walk and Follow is active? Or does that have to be shut off also (it does need to be shut off with EZCA)
