Have any of you tried this? (SweetFX)

I've been reading about FXAA and I must be missing something. It appears to me it would eliminate SweetFX and ENB. What am I not comprehending?

Freeware developer Pompeii, Italy and Mount Vesuvius (pompeii_italy.zip) and A380 Flight plans (ai_a380_flightplans_redux.zip).

Yea, but FXAA is not compatible with DX10 preview...

My SweetFX settings.   You can preview and download my setting from here.

  • Had a quick look at it and it sure is impressive. Just download SweetFX 1.3.7z, unzip it, move the files and directory inside to your main FSX folder and there you go. The scroll lock key switches it

Does anyone know how to stop the "FSX Stop Responding" when switch between Full/Half Screen, it's ok a the beginning of the flight but after awhile if I switch FSx will stop repsonding

Does this happen to you in the specific airplane or in any airplane?

I asked because I was getting massive CTD's with the ENB series mod in the PMDG's NGX. Now after several flights with SweetFX and NGX, I continue on getting CTD's. Once the mod if off, I'm all good. Also CTDs happen only in NGX from all of the planes that I have. :/

I've been using this for a few weeks, and today downloaded one of the settings files from this thread, and overwrote my existing one.

Now when I start FSX and use Scroll Lock, nothing changes, it's like it's not being picked up at all.

Even weirder is that I've deleted all files to do with SweetFX, and downloaded again. But still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

This is a long (and interesting) thread. Makes me think, though. Whether it's through SweetFX, ENB, FXAA, graphics card settings, or monitor settings (in any combination), what is atmospheric reality?

Except for trying to achieve the "clearest day on earth", for me atmospheric reality always includes humidity, haze, and fog that mute colors and textures to some degree. Doesn't that undo much of the finer settings these tools bring to the table?

That said, I'm happy with the FSX visibility slider and the Nvidia saturation, brightness and contrast controls. What am I really missing?

I will be the first to admit that what the various injectors produce may not be the closest thing to reality but I also think that FSX's representation of reality (at least as far as visuals are concerned) are driven somewhat by what the sim is capable of producing. For me, using sweetfx is like cleaning a dirty windscreen that is FSX visuals. Can cloud cover and fog, etc. reduce visibility? Sure. But I just don't like the blander, less vibrant colors that default FSX produces any more than I like the jaggies that a non-anti-aliased scene results in.

As far as what you are missing, I think an argument could be made that these tools have a wider variety of adjustments and effects than the Nvidia control panel does. Not only that, but I am not a fan of having to adjust my screen output every time I play FSX. I use my computer for a multitude of things and, once adjusted, sweetfx (and the like) is just more "plug and play" for me. It only affects FSX. Not the output of everything on the computer.

Bottom line is: Why don't you give one of these tools a try? I don't think the screen shots really give you a proper example of what it looks like in the sim. They are fairly easy to install and remove and there are plenty of settings in various threads to get you started. It is certainly a matter of personal taste but at at least you could see what all the fuss is about.

Good luck either way.

Thanks. I'll give some a try!

As far as the Nvidia control panel, I really like the Digital Vibrance control (mine is set at +70%). It boosts the color saturation to a nice level.

I want to jump in this topic, because I am interested.

but I don't want to read all 218 replies.

But, when I try to install sweetFX, nothing happens in FS. Tried several times, to no affect. What is wrong?

And does this ENB have CTD?

You are not the first person in this thread to indicate that they use that method for their FSX experience.

This might help. (Sweetfx configurator)

This looks very nice indeed. Having tried it out for the first time today, it brings FSX to its knees in fullscreen mode - an absolute slideshow, yet is fine in windowed mode. Any ideas?

Many thanks

I get CTD's in the NGX with SFX on with no errors at all, any ideas?
